Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Best War Movie EVER: Boardsies Decide - Voting Thread

    And so it begins.....

    SqK2Evv.gif?noredirect

All week people have been nominating their favourite war movies for submission into a tournament to decide the best War Movie EVER - as deemed by Boards posters.

Overall we had 78 individual movies nominated. At least 20 of those movies received more than one nomination.

So in the the interest of determining the absolute best, I included ALL of them :)

So, how will this work? Well see the rules below:

    • 32 first round matches, some with multiple movies.
    • Pick one of the movies and decide which you prefer. Give a reason. Movies where no reason are given won't be counted. All valid posts will be thanked.
    • First to 5 votes goes through to the next round. Depending on volume of voters/contributors, this may increase exponentially by 1 vote each round.
    • One vote per player per match.
    • Anyone can vote, even if you hadn't submitted your entries.
    • Battles will last as long as is necessary for a movie to gain 5 votes.

Aiming to kick this off tomorrow around 11am. I can always be tempted otherwise however ;)

Any questions - ask them below :)

    Let's do this!

Feel free to discuss your entries here now btw folks, that's all part of the fun.

    Some interesting facts:

As I said, 76 individual movies submitted.

We also had over 20 movies nominated more than once, and even a few with over 10 nominations each

Thanks a million for the interest!

Now I want you to remember that no bast*rd ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

You all know which movie to vote for....

With regards to the seeded movies (based on multiple nominations), I was going to leave that info out of the match-ups so as not to potentially skew voting choices.

But if people prefer I can add it in (It'll be a simple (1) beside the seeded movie so isn't too much trouble either way)

Nah let them be decided on their own merits not on peoples multi nominations.

That list includes tv shows. I did not include any tv shows in my submissions.
Are Tv shows now considered movies?

But they were the good guys, Michael Caine seldom plays baddies :) Anyways it was a sequel to Zulu Dawn 1979 when the redcoats got their arses kicked

    No, they are TV shows.

That would depend if they were made for TV movies or maybe if they were to be shown as a film you'd never survive it, Band of Brothers etc. I'd call a film in 10 sections but I wouldn't agree with "World War 1 in Colour" as being a film.

And if yiz don't like it then let War be declared :)

So, you agree with sam, that downtown abbey is a war movie?

or, you agree with me, that he couldn't find 1000 war movies and filled in the gaps with tv shows.

nothing wrong with calling the list 700 war movies and having them all being war movies and not tv shows.

Wow, can only think it would be the likes of

    The Patriot
    Beneath Hill 60
City of War: The Story of John Rabe
    300

Anyways it's not really "my" list just one I usurped for a bit of fun, but so many movies that you remember when they are written down in front of you.

When they take out the flick-knives in Downtown abbey, you better believe it's war.
"Mr Thomas, the nature of life is not permanance, it's flux"
"Well flux you Carson, you honkey bitch!" <stab>

Edit : The lack of faked-up Downtown abbey images (and indeed the number of Downton images with the name mispelled) is dispiriting.

Downton Abbey series 2 if it were a contiguous showing then probably yes, but series 1 is set pre WW1 and the movie is set mid 20's

platoon is on the list, if you sort it alphabetically, its on page 9, number 872.

also, there is 1620 entries in a list of 1000 movies, i think sam may be a few shilling short, tbh.

Edit, whats more, the list has duplicates, the same exact film listed twice.

872? I guess terminator rise of the machines should be first spot on that list

    eh. no..

Terminator is a T so would be about 200 up the list, in around 1200's
First spot goes to 'Doctor Zhivago': The Making of a Russian Epic as the apostrophe used in listing it comes before numbers and the alphabet.
