Never found Gavin, but if Gavin ever does show up and wants to find his wandering friend - I left him at the bottom of a lake :D

As a Gavin myself, I'm starting to wonder was the game speaking to me directly and should I have gone to find myself, like a college student taking a year out to travel Asia, or in this case, Rhodes. :o

I really think the honour system does not work in this game due to the way the economy works. I never really had to do anything bad to obtain anything of note or to keep my pockets full, because I never needed to rob or steal in order to survive. I don't know if it is possible, but would be great if they could patch it that you are pretty much skint for the entire game UNLESS you do some of the optional low honour robberies.

Is it just me or does the guy looking for Gavin sound just like Jack Whitehall?

I played like a full on psycho, killing and robbing everything I could find.....until I seen one of the trophies was linked to honor missions so I went fishing to grind honour, during the 6th chapter your honour rises anyway but I got the honour trophy for being all the way in the red and it was funny to listen to the camp talk about you and interact with you when you were down that far in the red. :o

    I'm on Chapter 6, but I rescued
    John
as soon as I could, now I'm wanted dead or alive in that area and all the missions are in there. Making it a pain to play because I can't fast travel on that part of the map and every mission is either at the very south or north. Struggling to continue playing it now.

Yup. Chapter 6 is a slog. A boring pan in the arse. Most of it just riding on horseback from one end of the map to the other.

I found the guy shouting for Gavin near the very end of the game after the credits I think and I hogtied him and looted him
He had a letter from some fella back in england saying congrats to you and gavin for doing so well in America and owning mansions etc , so obviously your man is an absolute spoofer , I cut him loose then and he fell off the edge of a cliff near my ranch and mangled himself , I honestly didn't want him to die

You can greatly cut down the travelling in chapter 6 by:

    - not helping Sadie
    - ignoring Penelope's letter

Both nice missions had they come in earlier chapters but are massive detours in chapter 6 and involve making huge treks back to camp. On my second playthrough i also didn't do the Strauss and Edith missions as I found them immensely irritating. The rest of chapter 6 was awesome.

Also I can't believe anyone would stop playing during the epilogue.
Don't you want revenge on that piece of **** Micah?
It also contains a few of my favourite missions in the whole game:
Bounty hunting with Sadie in Pike's basin and shouting Micah's name on the mountain
    .

Caught that Arabian horse earlier..it was some pain in the ass.. first time he ran into a tree while I was breaking him causing me to fall off.. second time he ran into a rock! Got him the third time ok.. but he took ages to spawn each time

During the inital 6 chapters I went through 1 regular horse and the Arabian, got him as soon as I could free roam.

Now during the epilogue I've managed to kill 4 horses including one while trying to go back and get the saddle from one I had to buy and yes I'm an idiot for not carrying any horse revive with me.

Does the Arabian make much of a difference? I am still using the War Horse and found it fine. Reading some of the posts on here about the trek up, the hassle, the trek home, has put me off bothering with it tbh?

    Am I missing out?

I just bought one in St Denis, black too, looks and goes great. Much more of a scaredy cat in gunfights than the warhorse was but has a lot more agility and speed, and it certainly does not enjoy my pyromania.

I'm still on Ahaon (I heard you may go through a few horses in this, so I decided to name them accordingly). Purchased Adó, the black Arabian in St. Denis. Didn't like the fact that Arthur looks like he's riding a donkey so I went back to Ahaon and still have it. Had to revive him 3 times, but still my first and best horse!

Think i'm going to plough through the main story missions and forget the side ones for now. I will pick it up again but I just want to get it finished now before Borderlands 2 VR!

Does anyone find that John is a lot clumsier/harder to control/walks faster than Arthur? I'm bating into everyone and everything with him, and knocking people down on horses. Didn't do it at all with Arthur. I miss him. :(

I randomly came across some O'Driscolls robbing a train. I took care of them and then realised that everyone on the train was dead. I decided to go on a bit of joyride on the train. It was going great until my horse, who was following alongside, got squeezed between some rocks and the train... And got killed :(

I have not readed any update for Red Redemption 2. I am also waiting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,764 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Just on the trains, I haven't been able to work this out. When I buy a ticket, do I automatically travel to that destination, a la the stagecoach or Fast travel system?

Also, how often do the trains come by? Is there a set schedule or is it just pot luck when they come?

When you get your train ticket, you fast travel to your destination. No hanging around waiting for trains.

Ah ok, must have been some glitch or something because I tried to buy a ticket in St Denis and nothing happened. Ok, cool I'll try it somewhere else.

    Thanks

While I was strolling through Armadillo, there was a fella mentioning cholera (I think he might have been ringing a bell) and said I shouldn't hang around the place and to move on. It's a depressing dive of a place now :(

I'm currently playing the first game and Armadillo is a busy enough little town. I own a room upstairs in the saloon there.

Went to see what was added or done in 1.05 update.

Went online and reading the changelog, and there was some great stuff and got excited, and then got to the end and see undead nightmare. It was RD1 1.05 I was reading.

I had one of mine killed following a train too. He fell off a trestle and I couldn't get down there quick enough to revive him.

Always make sure to tell the horse to stay before going on a train joyride.

I do not read the spoilers in this thread or even websites online about the game but I'm starting to think there

    Seems like they

I started reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy (might have mention the book here before) for the 2nd time the other night as I injured my right thumb and gaming is not going for happen for a few weeks I think. It's been about 10 years since my first read. If anyone is a red dead fan I highly recommend it. Wish R* had a Judge character in RDR2 but really that would have had to have been a game made 20 years ago as I fear would have any film adaptation of the book. No way it would be faithful to the source these days , they couldn't get away with there is a point to the violence, which there really is. It's not in easy read either in places with the punctuation or lack of and there's a point to that too, and it really works.

Incredible author. Ending shocked me to to core because of how it was written in the context of the book as a whole. Child of God is worth a read too but the film not so much. I'm sure many have seen the road, that is a book worth reading too by the same author.

Not if you have a huge bounty and no money. Some of the missions require riding beside someone talking shít anyway and there isn't a town near to get on and off via stagecoach in a lot of them. Why they didn't have a "skip journey" button ins beyond me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Thatnastyboy

Think I am about 2/3 the way through Chapter 6 now:

It's fecking heartbreaking, Strauss' victims, the veteran (hunting missions), Arthurs health, Rains fall etc, the only happy moment so far has been watching Colm dangle.

    In weapons:
Loving the repeating shotgun & litchfield repeater :D

Some game, it's one of the best pieces of media I've had the pleasure of enjoying, really don't want it to end.

There's a section in the wardrobe for stolen hats, you can add it to your outfit from there when changing outfits.

Yeah I noticed that but they never save for me, a bug maybe?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Thatnastyboy

I think that's only for certain hats, I picked one up randomly because it was flashing at me and got a notification that I had found a special hat, it now resides in the stolen hat section... Its a gaucho hat from a fella who used to drive a stagecoach

there's one bounty, cant remember who...
think it might be pikes basin with sadie
..where he comments on the hat the guy is wearing. think that is one of the special/pick up hats you can get.
