scary beatles?

    no.. not the group or the car..

    but this scary one below:

    it is the second one of this big feckers i have seen in a week. the first one was twice the size.

    anybody know what they are called, where they came from etc?

    <edit>dont worry i didnt kill it - it was set free </edit>

    Common Cockchafer, often known as May Bug. Fly at night and are attracted to light, which when they are most often encountered. Flight season is just about over. The larvae (which are impressive!) feed on various shrub roots.
