Just watching FP1 , this looks like it could be a tough enough Race . lots of drivers getting caught out with spins . I like this weekends track limits and plenty of gravel for punishment .

65 laps deleted in FP1 is pretty bad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,625 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Lots of talk in FP1 about graining on the front left tyre due to the long right-handers. Should be bad enough to force a two stop race. Sky commentators also saying that DRS needs to work rather than having people driving slowly to make a one-stop race work, and cars behind not being able to overtake.

did anything interesting happen in the tire test at the start of FP2?

Na just lots of running . Not sure the drivers like them .

Gasly's car just went up in smoke .. Big fire . Marshals had to cover a lot of ground to get to it .

    Stroll sleeping or verstappen torpedoes?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,625 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

More Max than Lance in that one. Silly for it to happen anyway.

Max looked like he was going to pass and then just sat in like a blind spot he didn't really move .

They were saying he was on the limiter and the battery boost had ended

Bit of a brain fart from Verstappen there - as soon as I saw he was sitting there without gaining, it was 100% clear it was gonna end in an accident. He basically sat perfectly in Stroll's blind spot.

He let lance past one corner ago. Lance knew he was there.

Both equally to blame, Max should have backed out but Stroll still turns in with another car alongside

Exactly because of that, he didn't - if a driver lets you by like that, mostly it's because he's pitting. That episode is what probably threw Stroll off in the first place - there is an argument there for his engineer failing to tell him Verstappen didn't pit.

Also, it's free practice - let's say he saw Max gaining in the mirror, then the next time he looks in the mirror, he's gone. If it's the race, you go "****, he's somewhere alongside!". In practice, the obvious assumption is that he has lifted off.

Sky lads, especially Di Resta, are being ridiculous going on about "if it was the race" - it's the whole point, it's not the race. From where Max was, it was clear an accident was coming, and he was the one who could have easily lifted off to avoid it.

Eh, this is in FP2, they do cool down and push laps. It's pretty common to let people by, same as in qualifying.

Max at fault for me, though not 100%. Surprising Stroll didn't see him in the mirror or along side him but Max was already going to lose time going around the corner entering from that angle, why not back out. And surely he knew Stroll was on another flying lap if he was flat out down the straight and still couldn't pass Stroll.

No further action, neither of them predominantly to blame. Makes sense

Haha, LeClerc reporting that he can hear Mercedes engineers over the radio. Maybe he should have said nothing and just listened instead of complaining about it :pac:

Ha! I heard Renault on the radio at the start of fp1, asking Ric to stay talking through certain corners as they didn’t know of the radio signal would carry. Might be related.

Bottas fastest in all 3 practice sessions, anyone think he's got a chance or will he bottle it?

    Quali delayed by 30 min.
All drains need to be inspected.

Typical, clashes with the spa 24 start now. Will check in for the final few mins in Q3.

Looks like it is going ahead now.

Sky have been showing some of the old footage of drain covers in recent history - scary.

Big job tonight I suppose to do the rest of the track where the covers are not so close to being part of the track.

Q1 is almost better than the fight for P1 to see if Russell will get out of Q1....

    Well done George Russell!

There's something inherently wrong about finding yourself getting excited that Seb briefly managed to get up to P7 in Q1...
