Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just got got texted this pic of a Pagoda on the side of the road.

The reason I've posted it as an "abandoned" classic is that I saw it yesterday with the owner standing beside it looking perturbed. As it seems to be parked on a random grass verge where I've never seen it before I wonder if he was forced to "abandon" it for the night...

I think I saw that car for sale recently on Carzone.ie.

Could have - it was gone from that spot this weekend.
Someone must have got her up and running again.

It was dark brown in case you can't tell from the pic.

Superboy, that 62 Chevy biscayne hearse was near Rathdowney Co,Laois.
I say 'was' because its now gone,it has been banger raced I believe.

Junkyard dog, there is a 51'Plymoth hearse in Grange mockler,Co Tipp needs restoration,Its been a couple of years since I saw it but I think its still there.
He was looking for about €700 then, should take a lot less now?

G Luxal, was that hearse in Carlow a 59 chevy belair? If so the reg is XYI 41.
Its currently undergoing a big transformation, the body was completly rotten as was the wood frame fitted by Duffy for its conversion, the thing was full of filler.
It now sits on 20 inch rims, air suspension, disc brake conversion, dressed and built small block V8,plus hundreds of hours of bodywork.
Im taking a break from it for the moment as im doing a quicky resto on a 65 mustang 289 coupe.

This week outside Dungourney Co. Cork. A Triumph Mayflower, a Saab 96, a couple of Renault 4's and an old Land Rover (not in the picture) next to a house. There were a couple of vile purple coloured Talbot Sunbeam's too but I didn't think they were worth photographing tbh. :)

I know exactly that place. I wonder what the story is. 2 miles further up the road there is a field full of granadas.

Tom Rigney in dungourney has a hearse inside in his workshop too. No idea what it is, but it has been there since before I was born I reckon.

The hearse he has was from my town, I remember it on the road. Is the field full of Granadas up towards Clonmult maidhc?

There is an abandoned Capri Mk III 1.6 Laser in the Marina Commercial Park in Cork. Didn't have time to inquire or take photos as I was there during work. Body looked sound enough though.

Hillman Hunter - late series, with the chrome rear panel, in a garage on the side of the road in Trien, near Castlerea Co Roscommon.

It's on the l.h.s. as you travel from Castlerea, in an old shed up against the public road, parallel to it. Shed has no door, so as you drive along, you'll see the chrome panel shining at ya, and the old chrome/black no plate.

Not technically abandoned! It's in a scrapyard in Mullingar, it only arrived there a few weeks back. Don't know if it's for sale or just awaiting restoration.

^ They could have at least put in on blocks.

Their is an old car, I think maybe a Vauxhall Viva or something like that, sitting on top of a container in the scrap yard across from the Red Cow. It is in rough condition and can be clearly seen from the Naas Road. I think it has gone past the restoration stage, as rust seems to have got the better of it.

that Vauxhall has gone now, not sure where to, but its amazing the car survived this long given the poor quality of metal they used at the time

No feck all about classics but happened to come accross this thread earlier and then happened to be somewhere that stores cars and saw this Merc with a big rusty bonnet. Accidentally took video instead of a picture, so the quality of the screengrab is not the best.

............that looks like it had an engine fire ! The bonnet is all burned and warped !

I actually think I know who owned that car, where did you see it, I cant see the reg but its unusual colour makes it look very like a 450SL belong to a friends of mine !

Um, is that a double decker bus in a ditch?!

Were there skid marks in the road (or the drivers seat)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah its a very old bus, early 70's, and there were no skid marks at all. It looked like it just slip on in. I dunno what happened, but apparantly it has deteriorated in the last month, folk have robbed lights and mirrors and even the number plates have gone !

It was stolen and crashed by a drunken driver. There was a piece about it in the Fingal Independent a couple of weeks ago.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

You'd think after 4 weeks the bus would be removed, and you'd think the owner would want it back too.

.........jeeeez he could easily have killed someone, there isn't a lot of room on that road and its quite twisty !

I'd say there is an insurance issue, and the owner does not want to pay for its recovery out of his own pocket. Its strange that the Gardai cant make someone take it away !

:D Ha! Oh so true :D;) , if you consider that you still pay at least 5k for a Splittie Camper (!!) for restoration (we're talking a salvageable project here, not a few pieces of twisted metal), so if you pull one out of a hedge for free, you've made yourself a nice profit without having done anyhting to the car!!

A original T2 Westfalia camper as well, you'll get at least 1-1,5k for a car that needs restoration...

    Hi Junkyard,
First post here. I'm a Renault nut with many years experience on all old Renaults. I saw the photo's of the R4's you posted and I got all hot flushed and nearly needed a jump start. Are they still in the same place? Can you tell me where exactly they are? I suspect that they are severely eaten by tin worm.
