Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CX Nationals set up for tomorrow looks super, fair play to De Ronde

Any pics or reports from today, heard bits and pieces through the clubs mails/whatsapp messages but nothing on twitter from CI, seemed odd. Best I got was from Gary McIlroy who had some nice tweets up.

Congrats to Mick Jordan of Tallaght Wheelers, placed 3rd in M50, well done Mick.

Fixed that , only looks 50 though ;)

Hi all and a big well done to all the riders,

I'm sure Mick Jordan is not only happy to achieve his bronze, but to do so in M40 as well! Actually he was third in M50 and Seán Ó Tuathaill (of this forum) did exactly that in M40. I'm afraid I don't know other board members by their handles. You might recognise some names here: http://www.cyclingireland.ie/cycling-news-item/2019-cycling-ireland-cx-championships-results/24216

The event was a great success and huge kudos to De Ronde Van Cork, Cycling Ireland commissares, sponsors, supporters, coffee stalls and spectators - the MC was excellent as well. I'm sure big thanks to Fota House will see the event brought back there another year.

For the likes of me - committed B riders - we were also welcome and the longer course lengtherned our day out as well as our pain before we were finally overtaken.

It was interesting to hear that the old adage 'pressure is for tyres' undoing great riders as well as us scrubbers. Few licks more of glue for some tubulars too.

Sean Rowe will no doubt have his usual great photos.

We'll get a write up onto www.OldVelos.com - but God knows what we have left to say!

    Brendan

Outstanding event/show put on by de Ronde down in Fota Island.
They really did seem to cover almost everything and the weather played ball too, which makes it a much better day all round for everyone, especially supporters and spectators.
The senior women's race, well the last 5 minutes of it I saw from when they came down the ramp for the last time was just super racing. The young girl went for it, the front two covered the move, they must have passed each other 3 times then from there to the finishing straight where Laura Gillespie just showed both smarts and power to sprint clear for the win. Super super racing. The excitement at the finish line watching it was electric.
The senior men's race was good too but in the end there was daylight between the medals. In the women's race with 200m to go 3 women were in the hunt for the gold.
I rode the masters and, if I may say so, had an absolute stormer by my own standards. Probably my best CX ride ever helped by getting the tyre pressure spot on - more luck then judgement.
And I was still behind the bould Robin who had a bad day at the office. It's all about standards, hey!
Kevin Keane did well to work his way up to 6th from an ungridded start and the mighty Sean O'Tuathaill put on the tunes from his wheelbarrow for the senior race, after collecting his M40 bronze.
The venue, the set-up, the marshalling, all top notch. I counted 7 marshalls out minding the shamrock series of turns in the senior race. 7!
Thanks again to all at de Ronde and your sponsors.

    See you in September:p

Yeap a great win for Bingham in the M40's, i'm sure it wasn't easy holding off Zippy Doyle who maybe lost faith in his abilities half way through the race...

Great write ups and remarks folk,

Speaking of Sean's cyclocross 'tracks', I hope you enjoy the OldVelos write up to the tune of Stairway to Heaven - there's even an embedded hyperlink so you can listen and read! http://www.oldvelos.com/stairway-to-fota/

    Bad Buzz from Glenn.
They've had to cancel the 2019 UCI Race.

    Source: https://www.facebook.com/MalluskInternationalCX/photos/a.237030967004923/344873622887323/
It is with regret that we have to announce that this year's cyclocross race at Mallusk will not have a UCI status. We have unfortunately been forced to make the decision as we do not have the necessary financial backing required to run the race properly, due to the withdrawal of a number of key financial backers this year. We wish to acknowledge the excellent support we received last year through the crowdfunding, and also the great assistance we got from the race helpers and support from our club members. And again I thank those that helped out, I could not have done it without your help. It was a steep learning curve and there were a few procedures that I wasn't made aware of until it was too late. These ended up causing a few issues and some costs. The federation did help, but I was expecting more guidance and knowledge at this level. It was a case of the blind leading the blind.

Last years race cost several thousand more than estimated, this was covered by Kinning Cycles Shop and the club. From a business point of view, I saw no return or support. I've never run these races to make money or promote the shop but I cannot afford to put this type of money up time after time. Last year’s entry was lower than expected which was another setback. I have had several chats with the British Cycling Federation to get a date that suits both ends and hopefully attract riders over. I have approached some riders with an invite but still no confirmation.

The UCI registration fee has been paid, €700. If there is anyone that feels they could run this they have my full backing. By my calculations, another £5000 is needed to run the race.

I wouldn't rule out running this race again in the future but at present, I cannot get the backing needed. Again sorry for the decision and I hope this give riders enough time to make other plans.

    Glenn Kinning

Best of luck. The odds aren't terrible. 1000 going for 500 places. Presumably the other 130 places are allocated to previous years volunteers.

I emailed them and they replied

    Hi
Cyclecross is primarily based on the cross country track. As far as I am aware the cross country track will continue to double up as a cyclecross track.

We will have a velodrome by 2021 with construction due to begin near the end of this year.

(In all honesty, the reply doesn't tell us too much)
