Any chance I could get topdocumentaryfilms.com added to the whitelist Ross?

    Sure, added.

I like the simplicity of the site. It is handy but I tend to use another site because of the ability to resize images.

Any chance you might add in an option to resize, even if it was only to one option?

The ability to find your own images again would be handy also.

Yeah, it could do with a serious update alright; will have to carve out some time for it soon.

    Howdy,

I've made a couple of (mostly unnoticeable) changes to wthax.org over the last couple of weeks, mostly to do with removing porn.

This has allowed me to reopen hosting to "all" sites, so a site doesn't need to be on the whitelist anymore for you to be able to link to it.

One thing I've decided to do is cut off all the images in the "wthax.org/images" directory, which was where images were originally stored pre-2008. While I don't like having to do this, a lot of the "images" in there were actually scripts, or images with strange characters, etc, and I don't have the time to manually review every one of them.

If you have a specific image that you would like "retrieved" (you don't have it yourself anymore) and know the URL, let me know here and I'll see what I can do about recovering it.

I've started doing some basic caching and setting expires, simple stuff that should improve the general responsiveness of the site.

Hosting will likely be moving too, and getting quite a bit faster.

Eventually, when I get around to "rewriting" the codebase, all of those annoying errors for certain uploads/transloads/tags will be gotten rid of too.

CuLT, this is the image hosting script I mentioned to you - http://chevereto.com/ - in case there's anything in it of interest to you.

Sure, available here now (same image name, just with the omg. prefix).

Edit: that's not the same image name at all, silly me.

Hah, what a completely impossible to remember name indeed :)

Looks cool, might make my life a lot easier, cheers!

Ever considered doing an API? Would be really useful (to me anyways )

I'm certainly amenable to the concept - what would you like to be able to do?

I'm just having a nightmare trying to get the post headers to upload an image correct in C#.

Well, a more immediate solution might be to use the imgur API if you're not particular about where you want to put images, it's basically the same service as wthax.

Edit: I'll likely add an API after the current set of revisions I'm working on.

Any thoughts on how to post embedded images on Boards from an iPad? I have used wthax on the PC and it works really well (thanks CuLT) but the option of browsing files is greyed out on the iPad. Any help appreciated as I may want to post some cycling photos while away in France.

Until there's a boards or wthax app on the cards then it's not gonna happen from an ios device unfortunately.

Best bet is to email them to someone who can post them for you.:)

Thanks Steve. I was afraid it was an OS thing alright.

"Unfortunately, due to malicious use, wthax.org uploads are disabled until further notice."
    What happened?

Can't elaborate right now, but the basic issue is that I don't have the time to deal with problems that arise with the service.

Apologies to the folks it inconveniences!

Awesome, did you have to IP ban any major continents? :D

Can you fix the boards.ie search too? :D

After ten years, wthax.org has come to an abrupt, but (I think you'll agree) ultimately inevitable end.

A few missed hosting invoices and it was taken offline, unfortunately in a fragile state. As you may have noticed, the images have all been unavailable for a couple of days - that's being remedied. Nothing I hate more than hosts disappearing with other people's memories, or breaking older web pages (and forum posts!). I'm in the process of moving all existing uploads to new hosting, and they'll be available thereafter in a much more manageable (for me) form.

What won't be coming back (at least for the foreseeable future) is the ability to upload new images or browse tags. You'll notice that wthax.org links now redirects to imgur.com. I think it's fitting, as Imgur took wthax's original reason for existing (slow image hosts covered in ads and malware) and turned it into a real business. Even I've mostly been using Imgur the last few years :)

    So long!

And thanks for all the fish mate!

All I can say is thank you for keeping it going so long and hope life is treating you with the awesomeness you deserve given your record for keeping this site together in the bad times.

    Respect,

    Steve.

But imgur urls are so much less ominous!

Everything is going to stay online (forever, to the best of my abilities) but if you'd gone to the trouble of tagging stuff and want a list of it, let me know and I'll get you a copy.
