Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Alright I'm gonna say it, letting youngfellas win high performance motors is a recepie for disaster, these lottery style competition companies need to be more responsible. There's a reason it costs a fortune to insure a youngfella on a corsa/micra/fiesta - it's because their brains are full of rocks. You may as well be raffling off a shotgun.

    It’s a diesel golf...

A very lucky young bunch of lads

That’s some crash and damage, they much have been going seriously fast. Luck to be alive.

It's an rkings diesel golf. Probably around 200bhp, it didn't crash doing the speed limit. The engine landed a whole garden away.

No just the standard 1.6 diesel with about half that. I get it if they were driving a Golf R or something like but I don’t think you can blame R Kings for a bunch of young lads driving like idiots.

    How do you know that?

I remember the particular competition as it was recently. I was going to enter as they said it was a Golf R but then changed it to a R line TDi.
Perhaps it had 130bhp or whatever and I understand the point about not giving young lads fast cars and was just pointing out that I really don’t think this was the case here.

Sneaky if that's what they did because it still says golf r on the winners page if I'm looking at the right one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

Screen grab doing the rounds says Golf R too.

Extremely HIGh powered golf..... Well no not really but the insurance and journalists thinks so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭✭maddness

Seriously lads, it’s no Golf R. How would a kid get insurance on a real R?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,883 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

Which is this an r or r line

Depends on what their parents do for a living.

    https://www.rkingscompetitions.com/winners?page=2

According to their site it was a golf R, its the 3rd on listed on page two of the winners list

No, it was a golf R.

Some middle aged lad won the white tdi golf r-line.

That’s a bog standard diesel golf with upgraded wheels.

Have a look at the picture of the crashed car, it’s not a Golf R.
If you believe different that’s fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,883 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

The brakes look tiny in that pic but I dont know anything about golfs. I'd believe its just a normal r line based on that

Definitely a standard Golf (well, R-Line spec).

Dont the mk7.5 Golf R’s have the fog lights built into the headlights? Fairly sure I can see them in the bumper in the above picture.

Golf R is totally different and stand out a mile.....

I live just up the road from it, there's a lot of local talk about 170kmph, drink driving, etc. but I don't know the facts for sure. What is a fact is the lad is a moron and should get a hefty fine and off the road for a couple of years to teach him a lesson.

Would the car have been even VRTd at that stage?

    Assuming it was UK reg?

You have 30 days to VRT, you can insure on NI plate and MOT would stand

I know that, I’ve done it myself. not saying he was doing anything wrong not having it VRTd.

Anyone feel like the values isnt there as much in the car raffles or some are just massive draws. Is there any reputable company that does irish reg cars as it great and all to win a car but if vrt and nos is 10k then its not a prize really. Insurance would be high enough on them anyway

FDR most of the draw cars are imports but all charges are paid

I've been getting a lot of emails from R Kings lately for discounts. I'd guess the novelty has worn off a bit from the start of covid/lockdown when a lot of people were having a flutter with their spare cash

can be seen that its slowed down on facbook too. there a rs3 that has been going a few days now, earlier in the year that would have done well to last a few hours.

Fdr raffle masters pay vrt on all their cars. Only one up there at the moment and not great imo but they do have nice cars every now and again.

If there has been a drop off in entries for RKings for the car competitions then it must be something to do with the uncertainty over the VRT situation after Brexit in January.... I know I have stopped entering for the moment because of it :)
Do RKings offer a cash alternative at all? Otherwise, I will be taking a look at FDR Raffle Masters for the next while.

I was watching another operation raffle off a popular vehicle and the limit was 1800 tickets. After a week according to their website 1495 were sold, a day later it was down to 1350, a day after that it was 1260. Forgot about it and logged in the day of the raffle to see what the figure on their website for tickets sold was and it was down to 900 or so.

Anyone know why this could be? Wasn't R Kings but another similar set up based in NI.

had been considering chipping in for a ticket but the forever changing tickets sold number made me question it

Could it be it was counting down... As in showing what was left.

I think the novelty and optimism has worn off for a lot of people (including me). Seeing odds of 1/3000 for a car or 1/300 for an iPhone package or whatever appears like you have a really good chance but if you look at it another way, a 1/3000 draw means you have a 99.96% chance of NOT WINNING :-) and even 1/300 is 99.66% that again you will win nothing assuming you only buy one ticket.

The overall spend on the draws add up over time and if you are like me you have zero to show for it :-(

Of course there is always the chance but same as any other draw/lottery some people get lucky but majority lose out.
