What are your favourite Podcasts?

I've a long drive back to Cork later and I'm looking for Podcast suggestions.

The Joe Rogan Experience is my usual go to, he interviews a nice wide variety of people and had a nice balance of famous names on his show and people who you never heard of but prove to very interesting anyway.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - Brilliant history podcast with over 50 available for free. Loads of different topics and the guy is infectiously interested in history.

Flintoff, Savage & the ping pong guy - Robbie Savage, Freddie Flintoff and some ping pong dude talking about all sorts of things, sports, life, love, friendships. Don't be offput by Savage being on it. It's literally laugh out loud stuff with some of the stories the guys tell. My new favourite thing. Would be good even if you're not too interested in sports.

The GAA hour - Colm Parkinson and a few other guys. Easily the best GAA or even any sports podcast out there.

Off the Ball - just listening back to parts of the show I like and miss because I'm at work.

I also DL the second captains but I just find it hard to listen to them so I'd want to be badly stuck for that to get a spin.

Joe Rogan is an enourmous pain the arse, full of his macho bluster - if he ever starts talking about a subject you might know something about, just marvel at him mangle it. But he can get some interesting guests. Just thread carefully with him.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is good, long and thorough.

Radiolab

Casefile is, as mentioned, excellent.

There's just too many to be mentioned here.

I think it's a nice topic for AH. Not a lot of people will venture into the podcast forum. I've been listening to them for a while and I still don't so bringing some of the best ones to a general audience is no harm.

I'll have to have a try with casefile. Seen it mentioned a few places. Not sure it'll be my bag but worth a go anyway.

Dean Del Ray "Let There Be Talk" I like.

I pick and choose from the sports ones. Totally went off them talking for an hour about an incident in a game. Something they could get out of the way in 10 minutes.
A lot of smugness around some of the podcasts.
Sunday paper reviews can be good on off the ball.
Dunphy is hit and miss, but predictable.
Guardian football one is good at times, but I don't watch or follow football enough to justify tuning into it.
Marc Maron depending on who he has on.

It's a weird one, their talented guys with good instincts but without the discipline live radio imposed upon them, I think they've increasingly lost their way.

Listen to them less & less myself.

Oh yeah that's usually the way for playing single episodes. I'm sure there must be a cooler way of organizing them on iPhones though.

Also I'm liking the Eamonn Dunphy podcast lately.

Also all the Irish sports pods are pretty good.

True crime garage is also good as is cold case files, unresolved etc.

Listen to them less & less myself.

They've been hit and miss since they went to the subscription service. Football shows are still good, but you can tell it's a struggle to fill 5 plus shows a week, especially during the summer. Still think that they're worth it overall - they are miles, eons, better than those gobdaws on Off The Ball.

Bill Burr's podcast is great to listen to. Knew of him from Breaking Bad and F is for Family , but only discovered his podcast through hearing him on the Joe Rogan Experience, really funny guy and well worth downloading.

History of Rome and Revolutions both by Mike Duncan (months of listening but really worth it)
Ross O'Carroll Kelly Podcast (The Saturday Irish times article brought to life)
Gift Grub on the Ian Dempsey show podcast (just the Gift Grub ones. The rest of the episodes are segments from the show which often aren't very good)
Hardcore History and Common Sense both by Dan Carlin (the history shows are stunning and the Common Sense show is mainly aimed at American politics but it will make you think)
History on Fire (similar in approach Hardcore History)
The West Wing Weekly (if you liked the show this is a new way to enjoy it. Watch an episode a week and then listen to the podcast).
History of the Crusades. Really interesting especially about the lesser known Crusades in Europe.
Claire Byrne Live is a good weekly show on Irish politics while Late Debate is a daily option
Off the Ball have a great set of sports podcasts.
Irish History Podcast can be good especially the series he did on the Norman's but he tends to lost interest in a series after a few months and just drops it and moves into something else which can be frustrating but when he is on a topic or can be good.

Another one, which just started this week, is ESPN's 30 for 30 series. They've been running as tv documentaries for the past few years and they've now decided to do some in audio form. If the quality is anything like the tv series they should be outstanding.

Definitely. Learned a lot about the Norman Invasion. However he just dropped it and moved on to a series about coal mining in his home town. He said he would come back to it but never did and instead has now gone onto a series about the Famine. He did something similar with the original series on Pre-Norman Ireland. Was really good about the various high kings etc and then he lost interest and just dropped it and moves on to something else. What he does on each topic is really good but just be prepared for a frustrating end (or lack there of) to the story. If anyone is thinking of doing a history podcast there is definitely space to to do one on the Norman conquest of Ireland because he showed it is a fascinating topic there are literally centuries more yet to be covered.

Dan Carlin - Hardcore History.

Currently on episode 5 of 'Blueprint for Armageddon'. Must be about 12 hours of WW1 at this stage and I think I'll listen to it all over again in a few months.

The only thing that annoys me slightly about Carlin's podcast is where he continuously announces that he isn't a 'proper historian'. I doubt his legions of fans care, and the quality and depth of research in his shows is outstanding.

There's very few people out there who would dare to make an 18 hour series of podcasts about WW1, and even fewer who would make it so utterly compelling.

Some great suggestions here, I'm going to start Casefile now.

One that i don't think has been mentioned is 'The Dollop'. Two american comedians, one tells a story about american history that the other one hasn't heard about. Usually pretty crazy stories, very funny too. Some notable ones are the Tickle one, two daredevils, vampire panic, 10c beer night, loads more though.

Started listening to this recently too. The Tank Chase is a particular favourite.

I've listened to 2 episodes of The Dollop, both recommended from other podcasts. One was the Enron one and the other was the recent Donald Trump one. Both were great and worth a listen if you want to get into The Dollop.
