Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Only 35mm?! Feels like a foot by now and no let up, just variation in how heavy it is at any given moment.

    add another 8mm

On another note Waterford is listed for heavy rain for the rest of night so why is the Orange warning stopping at 18.00?

Clonmel's flood defences will be put to the test.

I believe there has been some talk on social media about Clonmel flooding.

The defences were really tested in 2015 where the levels were much higher and they passed pretty well.

The area in the photo is designed to flood as it is between the defences.
The Convent bridge is closed but once again that is planned for and access across the town is still possible (with maybe a bit more congestion).

I'm afraid the East needs to try a little harder to be the new West, as west coast stations are still coming in with the highest November totals this month so far:

Top 3 wettest stations in the Wesht (up to yesterday)
    Valentia: 129.8mm
    Newport: 126.2mm
    Belmullet: 120.8mm

Top 3 wettest stations in the Easht:
    Dunsany: 115.6mm
    Dublin Apt: 111.6mm
    Phoenix Park: 102.4mm.
    (Met Eireann)

The East needs to up its game a bit. It is dealing with a long experienced, hardened opponent here. No time for pussy-footing around!

167mm for same period at Met Eireann station in Ashford.....very much in the East....or Easht :)
Took the daily readings from here
    https://wow.met.ie/stations/20191122uih7rtopjee6icufyyb96smxkw?
    and totted them up
    add 15mm since

Some large violent downpours here in Bray. Roads flooded, Gardai and Fire Service and the Council out cleaning up.

The last three days rain here in South Laois:

    Thursday 3.2mm
Friday up to 7.15pm: 3.0mm (AWS reading usually ~0.3mm of manual gauge)
    15.5mm total.

    Nothing major so
We were getting those totals per hour in the West in the “summer “ and there wasn’t any threads about it ;)

This is what it looks like from the other side (if you're standing on the bridge).
The part to the right is the car park.

Just beyond the barrier is the part that would have previously flooded.

They also have barriers to sit on top of the wall that prevents the houses from getting flooded.

    It’s depressing at times !!!!!
I don’t mind very wet weather in winter . It’s expected
But Mid July to end of September was just the pits

Incredible amount of rain this afternoon, evening in D15.
The Blanchardstown on ramp to N3 is nearly impassable.
That part of the road has flooded a few times before.

Looking at met reports for dublin stations they are showing on average 10 mm for the last 6 hours
    15 at most
    Hardly incredible .........

I think it is for the east, but then again we aren't used to this

Prolonged rainfall in the Dublin area will cause localised spot flooding owing to much of the place being concreted and the generally flat topography does not allow for a quick outflow into the rivers and on out to sea.

Stations in the west, for context,so far this year are getting on for treble the rainfall I've recorded south of Arklow
I'd agree with Danno's point though as regards built up areas
Blockages not cleared and roads will flood
Put 1000's of cars into that and it looks worse
Rain spitting down at maybe 1 or 2mm an hour is able to do that alright

10mm in the gauge now. Rainfall now overly heavy

The very fact that the road has flooded a few times before would suggest that the rainfall is credible rather than incredible.

Yes but that's due to the results of rain. To describe rain falling as being "incredible" is inaccurate as I'm not aware of any rain in the GDA region being incredible or monsoon like or once in a life time or whatever other fancy term you can make up, unless it was a very localised event.... Quite possible though but need some evidence.

Apologies, that was supposed to be a reply to Ongarite.

    Outdated thread title?

Haven't seen a drop of rain today in West Clare, looking grim over the east though. Nice for a change!

Waterford and Tipp are in Munster too. ;)

It's been grim and dark here in Wexford for the last few days. Generally it's the West coast that's like that.

I was referring to the dates!

Sun shining through some limited gaps of cloud here in West Clare.

We need to change the second date to "Whenever it stops raining".

Send the sunshine East, still raining here.
