Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Showing my age here :) I bought it when it was released first , have this gem also http://www.discogs.com/Boards-Of-Canada-In-A-Beautiful-Place-Out-In-The-Country/release/11777 .

Probably not compared to me, I bought "Blue Monday" on 12" the day it came out. :)

My vinyl arrived today by post. It's a lovely looking thing, but not quite as nice as the artwork as on their earlier releases. I have given it a good look over for any secret tracks and messages but alas nothing to be found. I'm going wait till the weekend before I play it. Once get the family to bed, I'm going to have a little party for one.

Was on twoism.com today and apparently the album is a palindrome in terms of key, centering around Collapse.

The mystery is far from over.
One of the members of Twoism put this together and I think it really works.

Twoism. com is to blame for turning me into one of those obsessive compulsive fans. I was quite happy to just enjoy BOC music for what it is, untill I started to follow that forum, then everything changed:rolleyes:
I do love their "One on Twoism" compilations.

Listening to the vinyl now, v quiet with great mastering, love this album the more I hear it.

My CD arrived yesterday. It sounded amazing on the first listen but I'm sure even more amazing with a few more plays. I agree about the album art, the cover isn't as great as their other albums although I like really the photos in the booklet.

I wasn't ever a huuuge fan of BoC, I do enjoy their albums and play from time to time - I've found them good for getting an electronica fix while family are over and that, they'd never be bothered by them as such... unlike putting on Autechre or something! I find this album a lot more interesting, so much more complexity - 'Reach for the Dead' in particular is a really stunning track - I was listening to the album in the garden last weekend during our summer :pac: on headphones and I really was totally taken by this track, it could have gone on for another ten minutes past its runtime.

I was also not a huge fan of BOC but I'm liking this album... The production and mastering are excellent - sounds great on everything I play it on.

Dj Food must have been thinking the very same before he went a made a 10min extended re-edit for us all to enjoy.

They purposely left the tracks shorter it seems.
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/jun/06/boards-of-canada-become-more-nihilistic

and last question which has being feeling quite hopeful :D
"And finally ... will there be live shows taking place around the record? Do Boards Of Canada still exist as a live entity?"

Eoin: "We've been busy in our rehearsal space lately, so never say never."

That is a fantastic remix of it. The last couple fo minutes are just out of this world.

The album as a whole actually has really really grown on me. Since we have had it in our paws for a while now, what are peoples feelings on it?

This is now up on Spotify.

and all their old albums have reappeared too. (still no "In a beautiful place" EP though).

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

Boc released a new remix of an Odd Nosdam track on Spotify yesterday but only in certain countries, has anybody been able to listen to it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

We may get news today about a new ep and perhaps a brand new website or we may get nothing at all.
I've no choice but to be optimistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭jiltloop

    Was there any such news?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

No! They or maybe it was we the fanatics, that led ourselves on another goose chase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭jiltloop

Pity! I'll just have to retreat back in to the shadows and return to my patient waiting.....:pac:

I don't think you'll have to hide in the shadow for very long. They are definitely working on new and maybe old tunes . One thing that is curious is that recently all their websites have been taken down.

be nice if they officially released some of the old stuff, some of it is really excellent.

    Completely agree!
To think what I would consider some of their best music is only available in really poor quality mp3's and we're bloody lucky to have them at that.
But I have come to love those poor quality mp3's.

    A great example loyatemu.
Off the top of my head, this is the one that I always remember first, when I think of their old material. If only they could release a longer version, produced in a similar way to Zoetrope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭jiltloop

Where can I find all their old unreleased tracks?

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

I'll pm you a link a little later on. Or try looking in the old and rare tunes section of BOC pages.

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

I've played on a few occasions the final moments of Farewell fire at the highest volume, trying to hear as much as possible before the music drifted off into oblivion.
There's no need to that any more.

Really starting to get into this genre of music ... can people recommend similar artists or point me to the right thread if I've missed it... Thanks.

Tycho is probably the obvious one as his sound is the closest to Boards Of Canadas.

    1991 - 'High-Tech High Life' LP

Also check out a record label called 'Ghost Box Records', similar enough sounds
These guys here are one of the artists - Pye Corner Audio

'Gas' is also really good, worth a listen

"You have disgraced yourselves again" - W. B. Yeats

I completely agree, he's music is great.
About a month ago a inde / alternative radio show broadcast from the states, dedicated half of a show to the music of boc and they also played a couple of tracks by artist who are heavily influenced by them and one of the tracks was by Ciaran. The Djs spoke very warmly about his music but the poor guys struggled to pronounce his name.

Exciting! Where did you find that vinculus?

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

I spotted it on twoism.org yesterday.
It's most likely promotion for Warp 30, which is very exciting, but it curious that they're copying boc's ARG for Tomorrow's Harvest.

"Featuring exclusive mixes, live sessions, videos, unreleased music and curated archive recordings as radio shows with contributions from Boards of Canada, Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Danny Brown, Autechre, Kelela and many more special guests to be announced."

Really looking forward to see the schedule for the whole event.
I just know it's going to be a long week until then :-))

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭jiltloop

Will this be a live broadcast that is then available to download afterwards? I've a newborn at home so my chances of listening live are minuscule unfortunately!

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Vinculus

    Congratulations on the newborn!
As it's going on for a hundred straight hours, I imagine most, if not all will be available to stream later. Downloading won't be a problem either.

but here's an exceptional little feature on their discography.
Its a nice length and really well done:
