Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well hello there every body!:D *Frantic waving!*

So now that I've made everyone uncomfortable. I'm Fugly and I've been veggie for ~10years. Raised by parents who ate very little meat and I never really cared for it. I never ate much meat and ate no veg then to lose weight I forced myself to try them :p, taking up a veggie diet unintentionally.
I'm 21, female, studying Science in Dublin. I am a total dairy whore and proud.

I don't post pix online sorry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,772 ✭✭✭✭Whispered

Nice to meet you Helena, tell us a story?
    :)

Ok, I'm 24 - OMG 25 sorry. Veggie since I was about 12, but did fall off the band wagon about 3 years ago for a year. Was not worth it, I felt guilty every time I ate anything!

My main reasons for being veggie are moral ones, I hate the idea of farming, cages, miserable lives. It's not necessary and very cruel. I'm not vegan, but I do limit my intake of dairy, this is again guilt about veal calves etc.

Really upset I missed the last meetup. I'm a bit shy so I chickened out. :o Maybe the next one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭biZrb

I'm pretty shy myself, I nearly chickened out too, but the thoughts of it are much worse than the actual meet up, everyone is a bit nervous/awkward at first then it quickly disapears and everyones chatting like they've know each other for ages.
Make sure you come to the next meet up as lots of people want to meet you and its fun too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,128 ✭✭✭sweet-rasmus

Yes indeed biZrb! It is indeed daunting to meet new boards people, but once you do it's great! Because now I can put a face to the name posting :) Looking forward to the next one, but some one is gonna have to help sway the vote for whichever day. A great excuse to indulge in some delicious vegan food with others.

So perhaps to get to know everybody that frequents here and to help everybody recognise each other for future boards meets we will have this picture and info sticky. So you can put pictures of yourself here, description of your diet, age, location, career, whatever and how much you are comfortable sharing, no more! Feel free to post updates or new photos too, whatever you want.

Always thought you were female!

Anyway, I think I'll join in.

I'm Michelle, I'm 19. Live in Dublin at home still. Haven't been vegetarian that long, about 6 months or so. Have no plans to stop anytime soon though :)

Currently in NUIM studying French and Geography. Have to spend at least 3 months in a French speaking country to get my degree so I plan to move to Montreal in October 2010, hopefully! Just to live though, not to study. Well, that's the plan for now anyway. Right. Here's me being tired from too much driving yesterday.

Nice to see more new people in here:D To those who found/find it nervous, dont worry about it sure we are only a small group on boards meet up scales, sure the first one me and Tar(a) were at was a site-wide beers with over A HUNDRED there...now THATS nervous haha!

Howdy to the new people, keep it clean and keep it green;)

Hope you come along to our next thing too, good luck moving to Canada, I would love to go there, I adore the accent and the country looks cool. All the people I've met from tehre have been really nice.
I understand the driving tiredness, was out for 2 hours in the heat today and my car has broken air conditioning and window, so I can't put it down far or it's really hard to get back up, wrecked!

That was the best beers ever, so many people, they all thought I was either going to be a hawt lesbian or a 50 year old business man with a briefcase and suit. Haha, was just a 18 year old dude.
The good thing about the beers was everybody had a pint and then nobody was nervous, and were just running around, meeting all the people you wanted too from the site. I remember making a girl laugh so much she couldn't get up off the floor, was good times. There was somebody that only recognised me when they remembered the "." in the middle of my name and was like, oh of course I know you.
Surprised you remembered me from years ago, when I did not remember meeting you! Whoops.

    Hi everyone! :)

I'm 25, veggie since about 6 years ago was never a big meat eater before that though so it wasn't a big transition. Only eat veggie cheese and free range eggs (don't get me started on battery hens!)

Why am I veggie? Used to volunteer a lot for animal rescue and couldnt justify busting my balls getting dogs rehomed then going home and eating a burger, imo all animals are the same (regardless of cuteness/intelligence) and hey were omnivores anyway right? we don't *need* meat ;)

I don't buy the "food chain" argument as if there wasn't as much demand, there would be less supply. Also I question the "nutritional" value of meat pumped full of growth hormones and so on :(

Tried being vegan but am wayy too lazy/bad with food so made myself sick and went back to veggie :( would like to be more disciplined and learn more about alternative protein sources and try again. I'm of the (misguided maybe?) belief that the dairy industry here is relatively ok compared to other places, I don't do dairy when visiting the US if I can help it.

Anywhoo, stumbled upon this forum and have found it helpful so far, so thanks :)

ps. in case theres any confusion, im a laaady!! :D Molberts is my dog, also female but definitely not a lady :pac:

Oh ya sorry I'm a 24 year old student, I'm entering my fourth year of a nutritional science degree in UCC and am currently working on the national adult nutrition survey during my summer hols!
Been veggie since 12 or 13 but fell of the wagon also when I was around 19 for jus under a year and had a bite of a chicken burger before than when I was 5 and very drunk.
I love animals and so choose not to eat em even though they taste lovely.
I have a vegan boyfriend of nearly five years and 5 cats and a sheepdog and we all live in the country and eat homwgrown vegetables for dinner every day.
Became vegan again at christmas and I feel f*ckin great!

When n wheres the next veggie meet up so?

This Saturday! see: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055613338&page=2 The idea is that we pick up some food and have a picnic (I'm bringing vegan cake along too!). It's Dublin city, and I see that you attend UCC, so I guess you might have to travel a bit, but raah! will be travelling up from Cork so you won't be alone! Looking forward to Saturday!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,629 ✭✭✭raah!

I am raah!. I was able to fully be a vegetarian when I went to live in dublin and control my diet. I'd prefer to be lacto vegetarian, but my parents feed me nothing but eggs now :). I'm a mathsy physics student. This is a picture from new years, I couldn't really find any other ones . My name is Daniel.

Good show! I've since shaved my hair though, and broken my nose a second time :D, and have a dreadful pile of fluff on my face. But I'll probably look like that soon enough again. Nice to see all you other vegetarians aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,128 ✭✭✭sweet-rasmus

Oh! Hello raah! There was me thinking you were another girl :D You don't happen to be a mathsy/physics student in UCD do you?! I have plans to get an unofficial veggie soc started in UCD. I need to find more veggies!!!

Feel free to post updates or new photos too, whatever you want.

Some of you may not know how to post a picture on here so I'll do a quick run through first. You go to a website like www.photobucket.com or one of the others like flickr and you make an account. You are then given the option to upload pictures off your PC to your album. The site will then give you a link with the picture under it. To post it on here you paste the link in a post and write [?img] at the start of it and [/?img] after it, without the "?"s. So it might look like [?img]www.photobucket.com/picture.jpg[/?img]. If anybody has trouble let me know and I'll help you out, but I imagine most know how to by now. You can also just link to bebo/facebook whatever if you wush to show the photo that way.

So anyway I had better start it off since I am making the thread.

I am from Sligo, I have been a vegetarian for 5 years, maybe a vegan one day but that might take some years. I am vegetarian for many reasons, mostly ethical and environmental. When I started out all I ate was meat and it's taken me these years to get used to a vegetable diet. I would never go back now, it's fun to eat what I eat and try/cook new meals, and it makes me much happier than I would be if I still ate meat.

I have recently turned 23 and graduated a year ago with a degree in Electronic & Computer Engineering from NUIG.
So I lived for 4.5 years in galway and I am back in Sligo now. At the moment I am looking for a masters course/job, preferably in the capital, am studying for future certifications and learning to drive!

This is me on the left(you can tell by paleness):*
It is from a year ago when myself and my class visited Edinburgh.

    48992371a9211298454l.jpg

I'll refrain from other pictures until other people post! You might even see the full face one day

*Not me really, just googled 'male model', i'm really a girl, honest, yes...

Cool haircut - Very Thurston Moore.. i'm not a veggie.. don't eat meat every day, love vegetables & meat & Thurston & live in Sligo. Not gay, but if I see you wedged between a couple of nice grilled peppers, I might be tempted to chew on your leg!!

Nope, no soy in it at all!

    Ingredients
Raw Cane Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Rice Syrup (17%), Cocoa Mass, Hazelnut, Vanilla, Sea Salt.

And it's organic and (mostly) fairtrade!

They sell it in most Nourishes over here.

I'd say Galway over Dublin, but that's probably just because I'm from there! Very little work there now though, and it'll be quietening down after next weekend once race week is over (Very glad to be missing it this year )
I actually really like Soya Milk, drink it all the time, in chocolate though it doesn't appeal to me, tastes like peanut butter!

Am I the only one who never thought Tar was a girl?

No but I did think he was a ginger. :o

Cocoa....There used to be a great veggie restaurent beside NUIG. AN Ghabhar Orga.
But it was a hippy co-operative and they went all Lord of Flies.
Or at least that is what I am going to believe. :P
