Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Borderfox,

    Fantastic photos.
What camera do you use and how much would it cost to get started?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I use a Canon 1dmk3 and a Canon 5d with a variety of lenses from 17mm to 300mm. You can use any camera to get nice shots of Horses, I started with a 5 mega pixel one from Argos (below) You can really spend a lot to get started but if you get a cheapish camera and try it out and see if you like it :)

Wow napoles, lovely horses! Are they yours? If so tell us a bit about them :)

The grey was mine for four years until this year when I sold him, :(
cos he wasn't getting enough to do as there wasn't enough dressage at his level down here and I have enough young ones to keep me busy. Mind you, he's dearly loved in his new home too so I'm happy.
The bay was for an owner. I showed him and competed him in the Future Event Horse league. Lovely boy.
I have loads more pics of different horses - but I don't really want to put up any where you can see me!! Hopefully I'll get a few nice ones of this year's youngsters soon.

Gorgeous looking horse napoles! Is he a stallion?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭napoles

:D No, but he'd like to think he is!! He's my 15.2hh pocket rocket!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭togster

    How did he do napoles?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭napoles

    Sh*te!! :D
Good dressage, but got eliminated in the showjumping for starting before bell :o (he jumped a good round though!) and then had two babyish stops on the cross-country. Not too worried though as it was just greeness - jumped them no probs on a second look and he's still learning. Hopefully next Sunday will be better! :)

Thanks! Fingers crossed they'll pop round their respective courses ok. Am not expecting too much though - they're only babies so will take them easy.

I just love the photos, especially the show jumping ones and those of the kids and their ponies having a blast!:) Brings back memories of when I was very much younger & braver!

Sadly I haven't yet mastered the complex and difficult art of taking photos whilst riding so can only take pictures of my lot when they are out in the field:(

He's gorgeous! I didn't realise horses go grey in patches like that- I thought they just started getting white hairs throughout their coat until they get lighter and lighter?

What colour would you register him as?
I have often wondered what would happen if a horse is stolen while he is still dark and they're not freezemarked or chipped. As in, identifying them later on if you find them.
