Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Work Planning Christmas Dinner/Drinks..

    Just wondering does anyone else think this is insane? I've already declined btw as have underlying resp issues but said i'd find what people think:

    Company I work with based in the Health industry is planning on holding a dinner for the team, 8-10 people based in 4/5 different counties in Ireland.

    They are familiar with an owner of a restaurant who've agreed to take them in for a night... I could not believe it when I heard it.

    Has anyone else workplace talked about anything like this??

    Absolutely nuts. Are they off the wall. Madness in my opinion. Unfortunately people will go and there will be other events like it

    Perhaps they are taking it that restrictions will be lessened to a point that that an activity like that indoors will be allowed?

    Wow.... that's incredible. Our lunches/ nights out have all been cancelled and the money that would have been spent is being given to charity. I think whatever company you're working for is absolutely insane to do this because if this- and believe me it will- gets out into the public domain it'll be a PR disaster for them.

    I'd have no issues with this as long as every one is covid tested and everyone isolates for 2 weeks after it

    Yes but in the workplace they're presumably wearing face coverings and socially distancing.... I doubt that's very much going to happen during this proposed night out... what do you think??

    I know people from work that will be going to a hotel, staying the night, having dinner and drinks for their Xmas party. They work together all the time. Less then 15 people I think.
    Do people think there's something wrong with this?

    Are you serious?

    I work with people who are great, but I would not socialise with them at all. Work and home are separate entities. Especially now.

    What's the problem, I feel like I'm missing something here....

    Was this not the big plan to start with, to go into level 5 lock down thereby ........

    Risk hundreds of thousands of jobs and businesses, plummeting people into more hardship and financial difficulties, While stressing everyone's mental health more and more.......


    All so these 10 people can have Christmas Dinner together..... Right?

    Kinda off topic here but I think most people socialise with those they work with.

    In my job those I work with we're all of a similar age and some live near each other, would have good relationships professionally and socially.

    Know of plenty of others who have a good social life with those they work with also.

    Fairly normal

    Ehmmm 10 people then likely 10 different households.....

    We have a Christmas dinner but in work. I don't use the canteen so it will look as if I'm being anti-social at Christmas and not sure what to do.

    And you can always rely on ****ing idiots to rush back to packing in together indoors the minute restrictions are lifted as if at 12am on 1st Dec its perfectly safe. And covid has vanished because the government says people can go for a meal or a pint.

    Look at all the idiots in the UK packing pubs on a Wednesday night before the restrictions kicked in on a Thursday.

    I would love that! There's only a handful of us where I work so would be close contacts of each other. It would be really great to have a night out with them. This time last year I was planning a Christmas night out for a group of my friends. How times have changed.

    Well I guess they work together all the time, they eat together at work and they will all be staying in a hotel, level permitting! So, it's just like a work lunch with a few drinks involved.

    I know no one who's gotten sick or died of the virus not one. Was sick back in Feburary a few weeks before the panic set in took not bad enough to miss work or seek medical treatment and I took a few weeks to shake it off lost sense of smell and taste etc so was probably covid. Usually it takes me a couple of days to shake off these types of things but this took about 2-3 weeks.
