Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I espoused this idea MONTHS ago here before the elections in Feb and it was poo-poohed as being too ....[Add your excuse here].... And not just here, but by other minority parties looking to get a toehold in the political system. That was a golden opportunity for us as the Greens were weak and out of govt and looking for members and candidates. What could have been a massive political gain for us to be able to influence a lot of things with a quick thrust,is gone. :(:mad:

    This will now be a long term and hard project to do,as they are now in power and will be for the foreseeable future with a now established cadre and system..And not really to be discussed on a public forum if anyone is interested in going further with this...

    Can we start thinking out of the box and beyond our noses and short term gains and tribal politics if we ever want to advance here and keep shooting alive in Ireland?

    Why waste such a valuable resource??
    Put them all on stationary bikes wired up to generators, with a VR screen depicting a road race which they have to win, because if like in the movie "Speed" they drop below a certain RPM they get an electric shock in the ass from their saddle. They can have a good 5-hour cycle, doing something useful away from the roads blocking traffic,by providing Green energy.We have then fit world-class cyclists who'll win bike races giving us international prestige and a cleaner environment...Wins all round.:D:D:D

    I haven't seen whats happening in the Dail today, but I can only imagine what those two idiots are saying, the last thing we need is those two bleeting on about mental health issues of shooters suffering from not being able to get out.

    Something to be aware of lads, with over 200,000 registered firearms in the republic, we provide the state coffers with €16m in license fees alone. Then take into consideration the VAT on firearms / ammunition and accessories, throw into that the taxes paid by companies that employ staff for the industry, the catering services for events and the list goes on. The government has no idea what it is doing, which is blatantly obvious handling of this whole Covid debacle in general.

    They make valid points,but their delivery method and speaking is terrible. Without offending any people of the Kingdom here. When you are in full flow and volume,the rest of us have to reach for the translator.:), and unfortunately watching that debate our "taoiseach" knew what buttons to push on Jackie to get him back into full Kerry mode, and that just destroyed whatever points he had made.:P
    Need to calm down a bit lads and think what you are saying, and esp what the other guy is saying, he might slip up and you can jump on him then and do a number on him.
    And this goes for the whole lot in the Dail, roaring at each other across the chamber like at a cattle mart makes it fierce difficult for anyone to follow a debate, for what they are,but for great TV entertainment.

    I did actually get to watch that afterwards and Michael Martin wound them up to the last and they made a complete show of themselves.... we need better than those clowns to represent our interests.

    Lads complaining they can’t get out pheasant shooting, three different TD’s speak out in the Dail at the most high profile time possible on behalf of the lads who can’t get out pheasant shooting.
    Lads that can’t get out pheasant shooting complain about ; They are holding up other Dail business ; The manner in which they speak.
    Lads who can’t get out pheasant shooting then try to plan to get one or more new TD’s elected solely on the issue that they can’t get out pheasant shooting.
    It’s like break time in a crèche.

    Why are shooters getting so up in arms about this?
    They are not the only ones who have to suck up a bit of pain during level 5.

    Golf was banned even though it is a perfectly safe activity and was allowed during first lockdown.
    Tennis also.

    I dont agree that golf /tennis/ shooting should be stopped but they are.
    so deal with it.

    We already have 3 elected representatives on our side. Imagine if every licence holder wrote to them individually and thanked them.

    Carq, I believe Golf was actually locked down the first time and is currently locked down again. It was opened up @ level 3 again but with restrictions as far as I know.
    I think we have no option but to suck it up as you say and just get on with it for now.

    However ,I shoot predominately on my own, so has nobody though of proposing that it should be allowed but only on a solo basis??

    Pheasant shooting is banned yet I can go shoot corvids or foxes or rabbits no bother I can also walk my dog down the field without the gun and that's alright
    It's the way it was just shoved in right at the last minute that's the issue they clearly stated golf was not allowed but they weren't as clear with shooting
    It appears to be underhand tactics by the greens that's why shooters are pissed
    Honestly I couldn't care less about pheasant shooting I don't bother with it but I still popped off emails to all my TDs

    Have been doing it on a personal level since pre-internet times and pre boards.ie times,to anyone who made any sort of an effort to help us out.:)
    Shows we are considerate if we all do send a text or email these days. But we need to up our game a lot more.

    How about on a more personal level,we make it a resolution to try and get TWO people out shooting on a range or even trying a shot , Covid permitting, next year.We need fresh blood in the game,and it's up to us to recruit, and educate.

    Getting on with busisness,unlike the shambles over here.

    Important note

    Lockdown regulations apply throughout England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December inclusive.

    This means that we expect shooting in groups, including organised game shooting, to be able to resume from Thursday 3 December subject to local and regional restrictions.

    What is not permitted during the lockdown period

    Driven game and other types of group shooting cannot take place from Thursday 5 November to Wednesday 2 December inclusive, as the new coronavirus regulations prevent gatherings of more than two people. England will return to a local and regional approach on 3 December and driven game shooting is expected to resume from that date subject to local and regional restrictions.

    Leisure and sports facilities, including target shooting ranges and clay grounds are required to close up to and including 2 December.

    What is permitted

    Under the new coronavirus regulations, no person may leave or be outside of the place where they are living without reasonable excuse.

    Exceptions where a person may leave their home include:

    Undertaking paid work, or to provide voluntary services
    Animal welfare
    Open air recreation

    Essential bird and mammalian pest control to protect crops, livestock or conservation may continue during the lockdown period. Pest bird shooting must comply with relevant general or individual licences as applicable. Pest control services requested by a landowner or agent can be construed either as work (whether paid or unpaid) or voluntary service. The regulations do not impose any limits on how far you can travel.

    Deer stalking as part of a management plan agreed with the landowner can similarly be considered as work or voluntary service. There are no legal restrictions on how far you can travel.

    Game management and gamekeeping activities may continue during the lockdown period. Ensuring that birds under your care are adequately provided with food and water is important.

    Recreational shooting activity such as informal rough shooting, wildfowling and recreational deer stalking may continue as ‘open air recreation’ but subject to strict legal limits on numbers. You may only participate in shooting activity with people you live with, your support bubble (if you are living alone), or one person from another household.

    Government guidance advises that you should only make short journeys for the purposes of exercise and recreation – it does not define what distance they mean by this. You may not stay away from your home overnight to partake in recreational activity.

    Non-essential retailers such as gun shops are allowed to trade remotely (online, mail order) and to provide “click and collect” services but customers are not allowed to enter the premises.

    Other advice

    When shooting during lockdown, we would advise taking a copy of your shotgun or firearm certificate with you and paperwork for your permission to shoot on the land you are on.

    During lockdown local sensitivities can be high – be aware of how your recreation may appear to others. Although it is not a legal requirement you may want to log your trip in advance with Police on 101.

    Everyone shooting during lockdown must consider the impact of their actions on the image and reputation of the sport. We all have a responsibility to comply with the letter and spirit of the regulations and guidance.

    Risky going out with no insurance cover as many farmers only give permission to Gun Clubs, knowing they have public liability cover. Farmers may not be happy to find out that lads out pheasant shooting on their land have no insurance cover.

    The fund will still cover you, that has been confirmed.

    e mail Chris on it. lots of these questions being asked and in fairness he answered them. If you had an accident on sunday were you covered, answer is yes your covered and in fairness the fund would always cover you. Analogy used was if the tax is up on the car and you have an accident are you still insured. The answer is yes. Very approachable man and extremely helpful on all matters fund related.

    Now, if Level 5 is not lifted or there is still no shooting under level 3 or 4 there is already one foot in the High Court.


    We need to keep at the politicians. If there is a cabinet meeting about what to reinstate after Dec 1st Pheasant Hunting needs to be first on the list. Keep the pressure on them.;)

    That was just a hearing,it wasn't a full-blown court case. So somewhat cheaper I belive.

    I was under the impression that all game shooting was suspended not just that which came in to season on Nov 1st.

    If this gentleman is funding it himself then I would respectfully suggest that he sets up a gofundme page. I'm sure a lot of shooters would like to assist him as we would all benefit if he wins. Although unfortunately, at the speed our legal system moves, covid-19 and restrictions will be a distant memory before this gets a full hearing.
