Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I didn't believe someone was thick enough to think dinosaurs are a conspiracy and go to the effort of starting a thread about it. I said it must have been trolling. Red ensued.

2 reds and 7 yellows for calling drug users and Liverpool fans scumbags.

    Truth hurts.

I thought ye were all going from memory and I was very impressed.

I just discovered how to check infractions, I got 5 yellows 2 of which were reversed by the person who issued them.

I think the mods on here are fair enough to be honest, I've debated points with a good few of them in different threads and they're grand.

There has to be some kinds of minimum standards maintained and it's enjoyable trying to think of different polite ways to say "up your hole!" when you prove you were right to a random stranger on the internet.

I had an account.years ago where I got banned. Around 2008-9 i think. Can't remember the name.of the account. I closed an account there recently because I thought the slowness of the site and the 21 year old threads showing up in AH were someone messing with my account. Haha.

I think this site is quite strict to be honest.

But i have to say boards is a very interesting site.

    Worth it..

Permanent ban from politics for calling a poster who said America was now a neo nazi State a denigrator of the holocaust, an idiot and a denier of their brutality.

3 yellow and 2 reds, one red was a mistake, for person above.

Thread Ban yes but site Ban must take a bit of doing.

No cards or bans on this a/c or any previous account(s). I'm literally a saint! ^_^

Or else I just bottle up all the angry emotions that I want to unleash, directing all abusive comments inwards to myself and problem-drinking all the feelings away until I'm an emotionless husk......nah, that can't be it, saint it is!

I'd say 90% plus of them are as subtle as a sledgehammer, an obvious re-reg account, high-speed, rapid aggressive or inflammatory posting etc.

Those that have gradually worn down the patience of various mods across different forums are probably relatively few by comparison.

One yellow and a month ban. On the ban, i got baited by a troll and I responded in a pm. Poster passed this to the mod. Was glad to see user permabanned soon afterwards.

Honestly, yes. Short of posting porn or absolute hate speech, I can't imagine a scenario where any user would get an instant site ban, without going through a reasonable escalation of warnings to cop on, or cards.

Those posters you see getting instantly nuked are more than likely one of our frequent flyer rereg trolls. We have one guy who has created over 5,000 accounts at my estimation, and he gets nuked without impunity. If it's a regular poster, then there's a good possibility that their account was put on probation for a few months as a last ditch "please, wind your neck in" effort, and they breached that.

TL:DR - you really have to be acting the bolix to earn yourself a siteban in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,408 ✭✭✭✭Sardonicat

I've earned three yellows and thread banned a few times in the space if 12 years. Two of the yellows were completely unwarranted but I wouldn't bother me ar$e appealing them. It's only boards.

    hmmmm.

Back in the day when I was gugleguy, in 2014 I NEARLY posted a comment in a PI thread which would have been red carded.
Because another poster (not the OP) made a sweeping comment criticising a rake of posts - and claimed in her reports she was in the medical profession. TWO mods got red carded in the same thread. Two other posters got red carded as well, and that was justified. Haven't seen this poster for a long time and hope they never ever come back. I have no respect for them.

I got yellow carded for a post that trump fans would find distasteful in 2019. I got red carded this year for starting a snarky thread early this year in Ranting and Raving.

You are not dealing with a balanced mind when you get to that level.
One frequent flyer, every time I see their posts, my first thought is frustration, second and overriding one is that they are obviously unwell and need support which they do not seem to be getting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,688 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

The others were for ignoring an 'instruction' not to post on a thread again, and for jokes that very serious mods took very seriously. Those were the worst. There's nothing more tedious and frustrating than trying to explain a joke to someone who doesn't appear to get humour. To avoid confusion, I have never posted anything funny since then.

yeah I can relate to that, I posted a Simpsons reference in a thread on gun ownership saying that we need more guns in case the King of England comes in here throwing his weight around. Joke went right over the mods thread who replied that England doesnt have a king and then promptly locked the thread for no apparent reason. jeeez.....
I'm banned from the politics forum for posting one too many silly memes:(

Yeah that forum is a complete humour free zone. Got warned myself for posting a funny tweet, was told my standards were too low :pac:

Yeah that forum is a complete humour free zone. Got a yellow myself for posting a funny tweet, was told my standards were too low. Thought a yellow was a bit harsh just for a bit of humour and an on thread warning would have done, I rarely post there now as its a very stuffy forum. Some good posters over there but some of them could do with a bit of brevity instead of writing essay long posts.

Can only assume someone re-regging 5000 times has deeper problems. Like imagine being rejected that many times and going back for yet another punt.

You can generate a disposable email address in literally one second.

I'd love to know what exactly happened with Scanlas, why he was originally site banned, and why he continues to come back when he's banned within minutes almost every time.

I know there was a case a few years ago where a poster was reregging over and over again. I used to site ban on sight and wouldn't listen to any appeal they made. I can't remember the whole story but it turns out that originally the wagons were circled and he had actually been unjustifiably site banned and no one would hear him out. Some how he managed to get his "story" out and it was listened to and the site ban was reversed, after years of insta site bans if I remember right. He was better at hiding than some,. though he did use some specific usernames.

My memory is pretty bad so the above might not be fully accurate but the poster is still active so he can fill in the blanks if he wants. I think he was born in the USA :)

Couple of 24hr bans, couple of yellows, and no reds.

Can't remember what the yellows were for. 24hr bans were for flirting, and getting into conversation on an After Hours thread. Possibly deserved both of them.

In theory yes, but they'd to have some wit and self-awareness.

In reality they'd probably be incredibly dull and not well in the head.

I wouldn't say I wear it as a badge of honour, but I'd rather get one for a joke that a mod didn't get, for calling a racist a racist, or for criticising a poor mod decision, than for losing my cool and hurling abuse at someone.

    3 reds, 2 yellows.

Probably getting easier in general to get carded as the world in general is more PC and fragile than back when I joined in 2005.

Most of the cards would have been for things that could be considered adult humour, nothing that Tommy Tiernan or Eddie Murphy when he was doing stand up wouldn't have said.

    .

I joined boards initially in late 2009.

A noticeable change in handing out cards by the mods was noticed around 2014. The rate of card handouts is now 20% higher than it was in 2014.
