Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Brilliant :) I have reasons for staying here but I'm more than happy to accept the offer. I've heard the course takes some getting to used to but by second year the students just wouldn't go anywhere else. I'm so excited :D

I am a young Northside GP. I have read a good few of the biology and medicine threads. Hopefully I could give a bit of balance to some discussions from a general practice point of view. It's good to read a couple of different viewpoints from different specialities/professions/public

My name is Mike. Originally from Dublin but living in Donegal now. I trained as a States and have been practicing medicine for over 10 years years now. PAs work in conjunction with a Physician and have full prescription writing authority in most states. I have a M.Sc degree in Physician Asssitant Studies and am Board certified in Emergency Medicine.

Unfortunetly, Ireland does not have Physician Assistants so I am trying to figure out what else I could possibly do in the medical field.

I'm Mark. Just got accepted into first med in NUIG.
I don't want this to turn into a personal ad so I'll just leave it there.
Although I do enjoy long walks on the beach....

Ok, I know it's been a while since I posted this but it is in need of a correction.

I was accepted for the foundation medical year program and will be starting first med next september.

    That is all.

    Yo!

    3rd Year Med Chem here.

Finish next year, and I'm stumped as what to do. Kinda looking at joining to Gardai, or studying more and entering the Dept. of Justice as a GIII Forensic Scientist, or Lab Analyst (probably the latter if I don't go on for further study).

Or else, I'll try for the QP program in Trinners or DIT.

    Hi guys. . .

Hope you dont mind me throwing in my little bit :D I'm not a doctor but I do work in a North Dublin hospital. I work in Bed management and I manage the surgical waiting lists. I thoroughly enjoy my job and really enjoy working with everyone involved in the health service. And am looking forward to getting to know our new batch of doctors who joined us last tuesday! :D

    hi im blue_belle,
i got my perforated and badly infected appendix taken out over the summer and i spent a week in hospital, since then ive had an absess at one of my scars. i have spent so much time in hospital, a+e and at clinics where ive seen the same set of doctors at each, im obsessed with surgeons. i think theyre class, except the consultant and one of the registrars, but the interns and the SHO were amazing. i love (most) doctors. i would love to be a surgeon, but would never get into med school. so i think ill go back to the life long dream of being a paramedic. they are deadly!

oh and nurses are what keep the system together, they are amazing! but i wouldnt like to be a nurse.

so, hopefully ill get to be a paramedic some day!

I'm a second year medical SHO at a large Dublin teaching hospital. I'm quite disillusioned with the practice of medicine and specifically the HSE and medicine in Ireland. I'm being banished to a peripheral placement "down the country" for three months starting next Wednesday; that might keep my whinging at bay for a while! I'll be finished life as a medical SHO next June and where I go from there is still very much up in the air.

Should introduce myself after so much stroppy posting !
Trained short order cook, avid cyclist, ex NCHD (studied in UCD but did all my hospital jobs in the UK) and now a GP.
Have to say enjoy the banter here and have actually changed my opinions and practice based on research posted here.

PS Ireland has some great sections of the health service but some piss poor ones as well, am not a fan at all of the Drumm/Harney coalition which seems obsessed using their vast budget in the worst possible way :(

stick around, kiddo. And if you ever wonder how much of all that stuff you'll remember when you qualify...just try asking one of the docs on the forum the answer to an anatomy or an embryology question :P
