Should be playing Throne in Ballybofey right about now.

    Damn it anyway.

Watching The Sunday Game last night of last years Donegal v Kerry Super 8`s game I realised that when watching it live I had not appreciated just how good young Oisin Gallen was in that second half.
On the day I admired his point from the wing Cusack Stand side, but had not appreciated his involvement that lead both to the penalty and the disallowed goal by Eoin McHugh.
Great awareness and clever football by such a young lad on such a big occasion.

Watching the game back, I had forgotten how bad Eoin McHugh was.

    Fish out of water.

Paul Brennan was pathetic when he came on too, I'd go so far as saying if he didn't come on we would have won.

So a 1 game club season?

If they are maintaining the provincial draws and it's straight knock out as in the old days it makes the Tyrone match huge. Come through that and somehow win Ulster and I believe it would be Connacht champion in an Al Semi final. A match we would fancy ourselves in. Just speculating at the moment but could be a hell of an opportunity. On the flip side it could be over in a flash.

My thoughts exactly. An open draw with Div 1 & 2 seeded would be interesting.

Straight knockout intercounty championship. Probably simplest route to an AI final we are ever likely to get. Or it all ends on day 1 but certainly rather them in Ballybofey.

True enough. We are not exactly backdoor specialists. Certainly not in this latest era.

No definitely not and the Super 8s haven't been good to us so could suit us bypassing that. A lot to play for and big motivation for the players. A chance to create history and win 3 Ulsters in a row for the first time ever which would take us to a winnable AI Semi (Connacht champions I believe). Anyway something to look forward to later in the year. I'm sure Tyrone would love to ruin this grand plan.

I havnt seen it official... But seen we get Dublin...
Of course they'd set it up for a Dublin Kerry final rather than Ulster v Connacht, Leinster-munster (semis) as it was meant to be this year

That would be a joke if they done that while maintaining the provincial draws that were already made. They probably know if it as its meant to be be its a dead cert of a Dublin Kerry Semi with both winning their provinces with minimum of fuss.

    How has that been changed?

    How has that been changed?

I am not sure. Ulster are getting shafted. Someone correct my logic if I am wrong but this is how I see it.

    Format Pre 2001
    Province A vs. Province B.
    Province C vs. Province D.

    Quarter finals era
Province A or Qualifier vs. Province B or Qualifier
Province C or Qualifier vs. Province D or Qualifer

Super 8s and how this year was origally intended
    Province A/Province B/Qualifer/Qualifier
    Province C/Province D/Qualifer/Qualifer

so take this year as originally drawn and connvert it to pre 2001 that is Connact vs. Ulster in my money. It has always rotated in this way up to the present day.

Obviously the GAA want a Dublin V Kerry final, cant see any valid reason for this change, the Provincial draws remain as they were so Ulster V Connacht was already decided...........would love to hear the 'official' GAA spin on this one specific change and why they deemed it necessary.

After looking into it they actually changed the pairings at the start of the super 8s. They are reverting to old pairings eg Ulster/Leinster in 11,14, 17 and now 20 so that is their spin This is still not right though because the fact is they did change the pairings and if you want to go back you use what 2018 would have been had the quarters remained. This stinks of finding a way of getting a Dublin Kerry final.

Although I have no doubt Dublin John jury rigged the semi finals, if we were to get through Ulster, I would consider it an advantage to play the Dubs in their first competitive game of the year

That decision needs to be challenged.

Absolutely. I hope this doesn't fall under the radar and someone makes some noise about it. I wouldn't like to think an anti Ulster bias is a real thing but it looks like they want Dublin/Kerry or Dublin/Mayo or Dublin/Galway for their special Christmas All Ireland. Whoever comes through a tough Ulster is going to have a difficult match against Dublin and this only two years after been shafted in the Super 8s format playing Dublin in neutral Croke Park.

Agree, it's about being up front & if a decision is made to go knockout fair enough but tinkering with the semi final match ups is uncalled for. It was obviously looked at and someone said we need to make this change, question is why & if there's genuine reasoning behind it fair enough....if not stick with the original draw. Having said all that Tyrone first up is a tough one, am I correct in saying we have them in Ballybofey in the league prior to the Championship ?.

Exactly and I would have expected Ulster winners to play Connacht winners on account of the fact they played Munster winners last year and Leinster the year before. Granted it at a quarter final stage but with the change it is still how it should be rotated. If there was genuine reason I'd love to know it but I'm struggling to see a valid argument. Yeah we play them before that in the league. Would we want to win that game now knowing a championship rematch is just around the corner?

There’s an outline of proposed fixtures on the county Website. The championship sounds weird. 2 groups of 8 but you only play 4 other teams. A regional league starts in mid July and has 6/7 games but county men Are only allowed to pay in 2. That’s bulls**t.

You saw what happened last time Donegal challenged CP, left hung out to dry by counties too scared of their own shadow to be seen to cause a fuss. Then you had Seán Kelly spouting utter nonsense like:
This is a very negative motion and deserves a negative response. Anyone who wants to beat the Dubs should aspire to do so in Croke Park.

Has there been any statement made on why the pairings were changed?

Highland Radio covering St Michaels v Glenswilly this Friday

TG4 showing St Eunans v Kilcar next Friday

Not many shocks over the weekend. Maybe Glenfin but with Hugh going off early it wasn’t a huge surprise. Gallagher is such a defensive coach, too mouthy as well on the line.

Meanwhile the strong appear even stronger this year, Kilcar, Eunan’s, Gaoth Dobhair amd Naomh Conaill just casting aside the rest.

Any other injuries over the weekend?
