Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Reg will also have it on I'm sure, do very nice food and have live music tomorrow night.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Ended up watching the match in the 3 shippes, nice middle class rugby boozer as per comments. We headed off for a wander after that and found ourselves in Geoffs for a pre-dinner pint. Very nice dark pub if a teeny bit on the monstrously-large size for my taste!! Place seemed to go on forever!

Ate in Bodega! which was grand and ok value. Was tempted to head back into Geoffs but had an early evening and did the touristy stuff in the morning, followed by a quick beer in the Ginger Man before hopping on the train back to Dublin.

All in all a very nice weekend and thanks to everyone who made suggestions.

Tragically unsupported by locals as usual but Metal Feast in the Forum on Fri night with Vader (PL) and Yata (Be) and a whole bunch of the cream of Irish Metal was really cool. Brilliant organisation and vibe from the young folks who made it all happen.

Halo is a smaller room in crystal EG you have to go up stairs for it and opens on Saturday nights and Sunday nights of bank holidays. Its a small nightclub with Steven power as the DJ.

From what i can see the bookies is up to rent from the last night i passed in front of there.

Folks, is the Crannog/Latern still open?

Remember years ago I used to go in there at least once a week, great craic.

If it's still open what's it like in there now?

It appears another pub in the city has closed its doors. The Front Lounge has not not opened since close of business on Sunday Night. (11.05.2014)

As far as I know it's been let. Not sure when it's reopening but it will be more food inclined when it does.

Yeah the prospective tenants pulled out of that deal last month. It looks like it needs a lot of repair and will become an eyesore if nothing done to it.

The Showboat, Mansion House and Halfway House all closed their doors according to FB reports

The mansion is still open. Probably not for long though.

As per forum charter, no speculation on any businesses until confirmed by media source or other credible source.

EDIT: Told by a reputable source that all businesses are closed.

I was gonna say I'll miss The Showboat being my stop-off for a pint before heading to The Forum, but I have no reason to go to The Forum anymore either. :(

Going to Waterford Thursday 18th September on a college trip with our class. Where is a good pub/night club to go?

Depends on what you want out of it.

Pub pints = Phil Grimes and Geoffs if its a decent size crowd.
    Pub/Club = Shortts or Revolution
Club = Crystal or The Foundry

All within 60 seconds of each other

I see a new club starting in Revolution, Saturday 13 Sep called Crash. Looks like a follow up to Traffic from the Forum.

Revolution seem to be trying something different every week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭MitchKoobski

In fairness they have Rob O' Connor as the DJ and he was in The Forum for years. Never had a bad night when he was on. From talking to friends, some of the old Traffik Forum crowd are testing it out as night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭The Bowling Alley

The traffic night will work because it's being run by Denise from the forum I think. She was always spot on with the nights up there...it's just a case of whether people will accept it being in revolution.

Gonna be a bit of a struggle. The appeal of Traffik was at the end of the night, everyone would be pissed and gather on the floor/in front of the stage and go mental to "Tribute" by Tenacious D or Dueling Banjos or whatever.

Hopefully it actually opens this time. It was supposed to re-open at the end of Jan.

They've been on about moving the bar since last Dec too. I really liked the Bar layout in there. Hopefully it isn't changed too much.

I think it could have started off as a monthly event maybe, interesting to see how it goes.

The way that Revolution has realigned itself over the past year or so lends itself very well to an alternative crowd... or at least a crowd that's looking for something a bit different. It's clear that Flash has drawn a lot of inspiration from the likes of Cassidy's, The Porterhouse and Headline Bar in Dublin. He was all over craft beer before it was even called craft beer and I think it's only a matter of time before the bar explodes in popularity just like the aforementioned bars in Dublin have in recent years.

So long as they don't start serving drinks out of jam jars that is! Worst trend ever.
