Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I believe that is correct. I am also considering the Hybrid course and from the information contained in the pack ,it appears to be correct.

Good to know I am not the only one who read it that way. Will you work full time while on the course do you think? I am slightly concerned by the workload but at least if its only 15 months it might make it more manageable than the full 2 years.

I'm supposed to be on the Hybrid course but haven't gotten an information pack (I had already submitted an application to the regular PPC1, so they just asked that I send a letter confirming I wanted to switch to the Hybrid course) - is there anything of importance in the information back besides what's published online?

Has anyone got a list of the documents required to be sent in with the application form for PPC?

  • Registered Users Posts: 589 ✭✭✭vid36

I don't think there is a difference between the application packs ,other than stating that it relates to the Hybrid and the difference in work experience credits.

Has anyone who applied for the Hybrid got a reply yet?

Does the timetable say what date it starts back after Christmas? I heard last year it started back on the 2nd of Jan so I was curious if it was the same this year! Haven't got my login yet to access the timetable.

Yeah the master timetable indicates the 2nd of January too for this year.

Yep, just looked it out! I'm in the early group yaaaay. Was so hoping for that as I took an accommodation close to Blackhall :D.

The list is on the law society website.

Does anyone know what’s mandatory attendance and what’s not? It’s hard to read

As I understand it, tutorials and skills are compulsory. Lectures are not but I have been warned that they do random sign- ins. Miss 3 tutorials and you have to explain yourself, miss 6 and you’re in trouble. If you miss any skills classes they can fail you on that and you may have to repeat it in the summer

Those that have applied to the Hybrid, have you received anything yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,159 ✭✭✭yournerd

Is everything mandatory on the first 2 days??

Nope, nothing yet. Getting slightly concerned honestly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

Me too but I am hoping its because the deadline for all applications hasn't passed yet. I phoned 2 weeks ago (give or take a few days) and they had given 16/35 places at that stage.

Got an email today confirming receipt of my application. Has anyone here been called to an interview in relation to their application form? Just wondering how often this happens?

  • Registered Users Posts: 300 ✭✭Leraf

Got my confirmation of provisional place on the hybrid. Just waiting in indentures for completion now.

    Anyone else ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

I got an email in early September telling me it would take six weeks but it came through in five.

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

You too! 😠Mine took 4 weeks from receiving their email acknowledging receipt of my application form.

Can someone list what documents we are required to provide for PPC or PPC Hybrid please? What education details to you need to provide and which original documents do we need to provide?

If you provided our original degree certificate, did they send it back to you?

You can provide certified copies of all documents. You don't need to give breakdown of subject, just you GPA and points for leaving.

Need proof of being able to enter ie passed FE1, prep course etc.

Two references (excluding the solicitor taking you on as a trainee).

Anyone going to the open day next week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

Hi Leraf, I have signed up to it. Thought it would be good to ask any final questions and get shown the campus. Are you going?

  • Registered Users Posts: 233 ✭✭jewels652

Where can I find information about the open day. I tried checking online but nothing there

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭Yohnathan

They emailed me directly about the Open Day but I am assuming that if they are having an open day, then they likely have room for more applicants.

  • Registered Users Posts: 589 ✭✭✭vid36

I am going too.I think there are some places left, I applied just before the deadline and I was applicant number 25

I only applied last week and heard that there was a waiting list but suspect that they will let late applicants in. I know of people who applied just before the normal PPC 1 was starting and got in.

They said in the email there are places left and I believe there were 35 spots released. Open to correction though.

Hi everyone, I'm looking to start PPC1 in September 2020 so trying to secure a training contract. I want a career in general practice, criminal, basically anything other than corporate really. I have good experience and I think I would get called for corporate contract interviews. I'm 34 so eager to start ASAP but equally eager not to go down a road I don't want to. My question is am I limiting myself too much if I don't apply for the corparte trainee contracts? Should I just apply for everything and take a corporate contract if that's all that is on the table and transition after my trainee is complete? Any advice appreciated

Hi Guys, I’m aware this thread is more so in relation to the hybrid, but I was wondering could someone help me out.. Question: Does my firm have to pay my wages while I attend PPC1 (September start)? Any help appreciated! Thanks

Hi there! If I remember correctly from one of our trainee lectures, the firm doesn't have to pay your wages if you start in September unfortunately :/. It is at their discretion.

Entitled to a living wage while at PPC

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

I believe it is the minimum wage rather than the living wage that they have to pay you as a minimum amount ie 9.80.

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭lawless11

As I said, I'm pretty sure that if you didn't work prior in the law firm, the firm does NOT have to pay you while you're in Blackhall. It's at their discretion from what I remember from the PPC1 lecture on traineeships.

    https://www.lawsociety.ie/globalassets/documents/education/trainees/mintraineesalaries.pdf

"A trainee solicitor who works in his/her training solicitor’s office before commencing on the PPC I, is, in accordance with the NWMA2000, entitled to be paid a salary while on the PPC I. "

Does anyone know if your character references can be from the same legal department you will be training in, once not from your actual
    training solicitor?
