    Might watch it again.

I'm already dying to watch it again :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

I cannot believe I am only seeing this thread now!!!! I would have loved to have watched along with you!
I recently finished a run through of S4 and S5 of Atlantis, for some reason (I think I was in final year at college) I didnt see Season 5 the first time round, or just bits and pieces and I really loved it! you can imagine my shock and horror when it just ended with Enemy at the Gates, I thought there was still 2 eps to go!!!! I nearly died!
The second time round seeing Atlantis, I decided I liked McKay more, Carson less, fell totally in love with Sheppard and Even thought I missed Carter and wished she could have stayed on as head of the Atlantis expedition, I grew to like Woolsey.

There is a nice tip of the hat to Don S. Davis in the finale when Carter says they are renaming their new Aurora class ship the General Hammond *tear in my eye*

I have seasons 1-5 of SG1 on box set. I am soooo tempted to start again. But I suppose college work should take priority.

and also considering the praise heaped on Universe here, I might just give that another whack.

    God, I miss SG1

Same. I hated all the weasel like IOA staff with a passion, not because they were bad characters or bad actors, actually because they were such good characters & well acted....they really came across like typical short-sighted live in the clouds type people, ya know the type  But yes, I did warm to Woolsey, you could see that running Atlantis contradicted with the think-plan-discuss-plan-think-meet-discuss ethos of the IOA. You could kind of see in him sometimes when it would click in his mind, "You actually can't run this place without making decisions". And as always Bob Picardo acts so well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

there was one part in Enemy at the Gates where he (Woolsey) literally doesnt even think about putting the whole city in danger (by using the wormhole drive) because Earth is under attack. He doesnt take the usual time to mull over consequences etc. Its just "my home and friends are in danger" and he just goes for it. I respect him for that.

If they had gone and done a 6th series, I would like to have seen Sheppard in a relationship. His character worked well because he had no ties, no families, and he was always going on suicide missions because he had no one else to worry about, but if they brought in a relationship (and not necessarily a leggy blonde alien) I think his character could have been developed a bit more. Plus Todd still had a part to play if you ask me. He is by far one of my fav bad, but not so bad guys.
The auld romantic in me would like to have seen Rodney and Jennifer get married too. That could have made for a very funny episode.

Ok enough fantasising about what could have been with Atlantis.

Yeah he was so cool, strolling through Vegas with the rolling stones "sympathy for the devil" as background music...such a cool image

That episode got a bit too CSI for my liking though the music in it was great. :D

I suppose its too late for them to do a film now. Although they did the Peacekeeper Wars with Farscape. I would love to see a film for Atlantis, just to give me some real closure. The ending was too abrupt for me.

I suspect with the planned reboot, all hope of the establishes series getting a continuation probably goes out the window :( Although Atlantis ended somewhat abruptly, I do feel it ran its course. Universe though, now that's a different story...

It's just that I didnt realise there was only 20 eps that series, and I was all ready to watch 2 more and then there was none!:eek::eek:

anyway I will get over it. I dont want to see a reboot. Im afraid they will mess it up.
with the exception of Star Trek, most reboots are inferior to the originals.

With a reboot would it be like starting at the beginning again, SG1 being put together to go and explore the galaxy etc? No one can replace SG1. and I mean NO ONE!!!

I agree, I don't hold out much hope for it...but Stargate as we knew it is gone, finshed & ain't coming back :( So a reboot is the only hope. I suspect it'll be a reboot of the original feature film, mixed with elements of SG-1 that set it up for two sequels {it is a planned trilogy}. You never know, but they'll go in a new direction without a doubt, as it'a a reboot after all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

ya, I guess. I guess when we just loved a show so much, its hard to imagine them changing it.
I mean come on, would they "reboot the West Wing?!?!?! I think not!

I think they would have to change characters though. like who could they possibly get to play Jack and Teal'c.

Hey! Welcome fellow gater! Have a look at play.com Ive never had a problem with quality of stuff and they are pretty reasonably priced.

Side bar I love the intro between Jack and Sam.

"Just because my reproductive organs are on the inside instead of the outside doesnt mean I cant handle what ever you can handle!"

There was a disk quality issue with the SG1 Boxset, might have been fixed.
You could try and source each season used and save some money.

Atlantis was released on Blu, a little under €70 on Play.com and they have free shipping. Only ever had one issue with the company and after sorting it with customer services I came to the conclusion it was someone being lazy but I still use them and find they have good deals.

All five seasons of Atlantis are on Netflix.

On to episode 3 emancipation. SG1 really tackled a lot of serious issues early on. Oppression of women, violence against women, arranged marriages etc. Great episode. Plus funny too, when Jack and Daniel tell Carter that blue dress is "so you!"

Soon-Tek Oh was good in that episode and in fairness Jack and Daniel were right, Carter did look good in a blue dress.

Again with the hammering into controversial issues. First Commandment - Jonas was a nut case!

Cold Lazarus - something I noticed, When Jack comes back through the stargate (the real Jack), the gate is dialling and Sam says "Where's the Iris?" and the General Hammond says that someone used a code - but the wormhole hadnt even been established so HOW could the remote code have gotten through?!?!? LOL

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,391 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Something must come through somehow because doesn't the gate start spinning when someone dials in from off planet before the wormhole is activated?

Ya I guess but surely a wormhole would have to be established first in order for a primitive signal like a radio wave to get through. Our tech is thousands of years behind the gate tech and I just wouldn't have thought something so simple as a radio signal would be able to travel through the actual gate itself. You would need a wormhole. Maybe I'm wrong but it just seemed odd to me. :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

And here he comes. the introduction of Col. Maybourne! - Jacka**

    Jack -"What happened to Kennedy?"
Maybourne - "He got promoted to the Pentagon. Im his replacement"
Jack - "Talk about failing upwards!"

    Love it!

Maybourne is brilliant, more so when he's outed from his position & pushed into a lovable rogue type character

I never liked him. he just annoyed the hell out of me. On to solitudes. I really like this episode. I like the sciencey explanations about how the Stargate works etc.

Starting this re-run was probably a bad idea :D:D:D

Evening time- On to Tin Man. Have to say, not one of my favs. But it does have some funny one liners.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

Well I just finished Season 1. Loved it. Again. Season 2 will have to wait til Monday if not the following wk. Too much college work to do. Damn furtherer education messing with my sci fi.

Is it just me or is Apophis really hard to take seriously?!? He looks like such a wuss yet he weilds this great power over thousands if not millions. I could so take him in a fight!!! Plus I could never take a man who wears that much eyeliner ad gold lipstick seriously!

Just watched the episode Thor's Chariot. Man, I love the Asgard!!!! they are just so cool!!!

Something I have noticed and I have to say it very much annoys me. The opening credits. I remember watching on telly and it was just a camer panning shot of a massive Egyptian statue. In my box sets, bar the very first episode, they have a montage of all the characters as the opening credits. I prefer the original.

    Original - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JZ3oAVsFl4

    new one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aafGXNWHGaw - boo hiss

and that was just season 1.

got worse as seasons went on as far as I can remember.

Message in a Bottle is a weird episode. Lt. Simmons. I dont get it.

another character I love is Master Bra'tac! What a Legend, reminds me of John Giles a bit.

Open to correction here but I believe Seasons' One and Two had that "new" intro originally for Showtime. The "Original" first came about in Season 3 but was later attached to all the first five seasons? Definitely anyway this was the case for Sky One's broadcasts of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

I might be wrong but from what I can remember they didnt start using the 'new one' til later series. and I remember being disgusted when they started using it. I dont like it at all. anyway.

Just watched Family. Ry'ac annoys me.

    @Myrddin - like you I have ended up watching 3 or 4 eps at a time. :D

Irrc, Season 6 introduces a new one with the spinning Stargate with Jonas in it (Starts off with RDA doing a roll onto a sand and shooting, ends with a Ghoauld ship being shot down in front of a Stargate). That is a lot better than the original Season One and Two ones. Season 3,4,5 all had the Egyptian Statute thing from the original movie opening. Seasons 9,10 had another gate spinning opening but the game began spinning in space and was viewed edge on a like dinner plate.

Re the intro's, I really hate the way they ditched the model of the Stargate & used a awful CG one in the later series intro

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

"Oh, I'm not gonna hit you, Maybourne. I'm gonna shoot you!" - Best O'Neill quote EVER!!!

watched Secrets, the ep where Daniel and Teal'c go back to Abydos, Shar're is there, up the duff etc. I hate childbirth. why do they insist on showing women having babies in these shows. ick.

on to Bane now. weird ep.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

Well since I ended up getting my wisdom tooth pulled, so since Im in a lot of pain and feeling very sorry for my self, Im watching a few more eps. up as far as the Fifth Race.

Go on, what's the old adage? "There's no medicine like Stargate"

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

Holiday has to be one of my least favourite episodes. no idea why. the part where Teal'c (in Jack's body) tries to cut his hair. gas.

sidebar. I remember years ago I had a Stargate dialling computer screensaver on our old desktop at home. I have been googling but I cant find it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

the weirdest thing just happened. so there I am watching "Out of Mind" and it finished with "To Be Continued" so I go to the next episode that is on the disc, and WHOA! its the episode Thor's Hammer from season 1 and the 4th ep on the disc is Hathor. I am sooooo confused, so then I looked up the episode list and Out of Mind is the season finale of season2. why have 2 random episodes from season 1 in there.
Looks like Im on to season 3. Better order season 6 -10 soon before I catch my self up!

Edit. I should have just read the back of the box where it says "including two classic episodes from season 1" - *facepalm*!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

Point of View. I love episodes with the alternate realities. and Jack and Sam, together. awh! (Im such a girl)

and now introducing Aris Bok. hate this guy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

    Update:

Well I am nearing the end of Season 3 already. I have 4 and 5 but at the rate Im going I should get 6 and 7 before xmas.

My heart nearly broke when Shar're died. I was watching the ep where Skara/Korel were on triad on tollana and I couldnt remember who won, so like for a minute there I thought the Goa'uld would win and I was like "Noooooo"! but then they didnt and all was ok again.
Urgo - hilarious episode!!! just a laugh a minute. I love the expressions on Fraiser and Hammonds faces when SG1 are yapping away to Urgo and they cant see him. It's gas!

The ep with the Harsisis child, boring as hell! next is the crystal skull, which I dont think I am fond of. then the finale Nemesis. and the debut of the Replicators!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

I would like to offer my apologies to the episode Crystal Skull. Its actually very funny. Got season 6 today in HMV. all they had in the way of stargate was sesaon 6 of sg1 and 2-5 of atlantis. very disappointing. anyway.
Id love to Join the SGC. if it existed. which it doesnt.

    or does it?!?!?
