As Ye Olde Goate said, it looks like its gonna be a cold, cold night Wednesday. Good weather for a toga party...

See you all on the morrow.

Jeez, I picked a lovely evening for my first photowalk.

Camera, tripod, remote trigger, hat, gloves & scarf all packed.

Is there anywhere that does coffee close to the start point? I don't venture north of the river very often so I don't know the area at all. Google maps has an Esso station on the road there. I presume it's not an Esso anymore but maybe there's a filling station with a coffee machine?

There is a filling station there and they do sell coffee!. The junction with Vernon Avenue is about 400 meters nearer the city, just after the church. There are a few cafes, take away/ pub etc there. Easy walking distance.

Looks like I might not make this, again :( ffs

    Also, FYI

    http://www.thejournal.ie/moon-jupiter-close-693650-Nov2012/
LOOK UP TO the skies tonight and you’ll see something rather beautiful – the Moon and Jupiter shining brightly extremely close together.

Astronomy Ireland said that tonight the Moon and the massive planet Jupiter will “blaze spectacularly close together all night” after they rise at 4:30pm. Jupiter will look like a brilliant ‘star’ blazing next to the Moon.

David Moore, Editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine, said:

The Moon and Jupiter tonight will form a spectacular sight in the sky. They are the two brightest things in the night sky, so they are unmissable: there is no need for a telescope, just use your eyes!

He said that this breathtaking sight will grab the attention of people all over the world as not only will they be close together, but the two objects will be placed right next to the Hyades Star Cluster, the nearest cluster of stars to Earth.

Astronomy Ireland offers weekly free telescope nights every Friday at 8pm (depending on the weather). Members of the public are invited to Astronomy Ireland’s premises in Airside Enterprise Centre, North Dublin, to use some of the country’s biggest telescopes. The telescope nights are suitable for people of all ages and experience.

For further information on the Moon and Jupiter tonight visit www.astronomy.ie.

Guys I'm still in work but Maxie is there in the car park facing Dublin bus. Where are ye lot meeting?

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 maxie

I was there with the OldGoat :-) (We were in the right car park).
What a great spot for night photography, only got to do a small bit of light paining with my small LED torch which wasn't that effective.
Unfortunately I had to leave early as night shift calls for work.

Because I missed out tonight I will deffo go another night.
Kceire / OldGoat might come with me.

You’re probably only arriving at Bull Island now :-)

Only took a few pics so I hope to upload tomorrow sometime, looking forward to seeing all your pics.

I've been home about an hour and a half now and just starting to thaw out.

I'll maybe upload a couple of images tomorrow evening.

But I enjoyed my first boards photowalk and hope to make another one soon.

Thanks for coming along everybody. Turns out it was a very short, albeit very interesting and very cold walk. I think my down jacket took a hit from the burning of the steel wool :(
Photos to follow (of the burning wool, not the burnt jacket!)...
