Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In the past three weeks Caseys is being troublesome for me. Its not my computer because I always keep it maintained (I used to work in Steves PC supplies). Sometimes websites takes a second attempt to load and sometimes Youtube videos either dont load , only load half way and stop or just throws an error. Also He raised the prices by 70 cent without giving any notice and his upload speed went frrom just under 3mb/s to just over 1.6mb/s. I thought he promised higher upload speeds than 3mb/s were coming soon?

I can do a speedtest and post my results if its needed as proof.

K , I've been absent from this thread for a while because I moved house and got a new modem ( Happy Days ).
Recently however I've started to get this error(added as attachment) message whenever I try to diagnose problems with the connection.
I've had a chat with Casey's and I was told to plug out the modem and plug it back in after X amount of time. Does anyone else have this problem?
I can connect/use the internet without problem it's just strange seeing as the last modem which caused many problems for me never had this error message.

I've seen DNS problems on Caseys network a few times in the (historic) past when some of the modems were handing out the wrong DNS server addresses, but that's easy to solve as might be your issue if you add the names of suitable DNS servers on to any PC that you are using. OpenDNS has all the info
    www.opendns.org

and you can use their DNS servers. Basically you just find the properties for your network cards connection and add the DNS addresses to the tcp/ip section the openDNS server addresses are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Is anybody else having trouble with caseys with the past two weeks? Almost every time I try to load a web page its either extremely slow or doesnt load at all. Its only after the newest update to their 120MB/s router that the problems started. I have no control over the updates they upload to the modem / router either. i should really go into caseys and question them about this problem , but the last time I had trouble the guys that came to check the problem was blaming my equipment when it was their server was broken all along.

Thank yere lucky stars guys that ye do not live in Ring when it comes to internet. I only have a 3MB LINE AND BARELY GET 1.5mbps most days, had to switch to vodafone just to get unlimited cause eircom would not do it for me at the time. I have been hitting caseys every so often for several years and there is no sign of them coming out to Ring, i tell ya they would get a few customers if they did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 557 ✭✭✭Steve30x

I get where you are coming from. when I got caseys first it was 3MB/s too then a few years later it went to 30mb/s. The biggest bottleneck with caseys is the abysmal upload speed towards his download speed. Honestly his upload speed should be 10% of the download speed towards the download speed and even at that it would be a bottleneck but not even close to what he offers now. I am only getting 1.8mb/s when I am supposed to be getting 3mb/s upload speed. We were promised that caseys would increase the upload speed nearly a year ago and its still the not good.

Have you considered going with Satellite internet?

I will assume that was meant for me steve30x? Yes but several problems there, first no locals doing sat internet, second cost too much to install, third none of them give unlimited download and those that do charge well over 100euro per month for it.I am tied into vodafone until next april but if i found a decent sat provider that would not rape me on price i would consider leaving early. Must have un limited for under 50 euro per month otherwise whats the point?

Caseys cheapest is €50.60 so if he does eventually provide to ring you should be on the ball

afaik there are no updates loaded to the modem/router other than std dhcp info and you can access the router with the old scientific america password (they were taken over by cisco) if you need to modify it for port forwarding etc.

Wrong. I have access to the router myself and I have it with two years. I was checking the settings to see if something went wrong and it shows a new updated firmware was loaded to it just two weeks ago. I also know the firmware was changed because some of the options for the firewall have changed with the past two weeks and some other options were changed around in the other tabs.

My connection is rock solid. I am on 30mb with one of the older modems. I hear too many horror stories from people using the routers.

I thought about upgrading a while back but they told me I would have to use one of the routers. I stayed on 30mb.

I have been chasing casey for years now on bringing broadband to Ring and it just is not going to happen imho. Financially viable and all that mullarkey, good god TG4 is partially based out here would it not make sense to have a major customer like that on the books, they ahve been crying out for decent broadband for years too. Sky were supposed to be doing internet too at one stage but looks like that is gone bust as well. Steve 50 bucks for what kinda speed and usage?

I'm within range but I'm constantly losing my internet connection and when we ask Caseys about it they just say "We're working on it" - it's been about 6 months. It goes off for like 20 minutes every 3 hours almost - not a big deal but I'd expect the internet connection to stay on all the time.

    i get the same problem
and tbh i'm sick of Casey's. the staff are ignorant the engineers haven't a clue.

i hope upc is coming to dungarvan soon.

I have their modem too and the speed I am getting from their internet is not consistent. Not only that but they tend to update the firmware every once in a while in the router remotely and it messes with the routers settings. I reckon they get the cheapest modem / routers they can get and charge us a premium for them. Not only that but the upload speed they advertise is not what you actually get. My maximum upload speed is 1.8mb/s which is abysmal and so 2001.

Also as you mention the engineers. T about six years ago my internet kept cutting off completely every thirty seconds. This went on for five weeks. Every time the engineers called up to the appartment I was staying in down in the quay they changed some new cables and blamed my computer. So after talking to my neighbours they had the same problem. It turned out that it was their server was on the blink. I knew it wasn't my computer because I built and maintained it myself but the engineer was rude to me when I told him it wasnt on my end.

I really hope Vodafone bring their *proper broadband* to Dungarvan. 70MB Fiber powered broadband for 40 a month sounds much more appealing. At any rate - this is a speed test from last week I did to London on Casey's.

Stopped them? By not selling to them?

I don't really know how much truth is to that story i only herd bits and pieces

apparently UPC and Casey went to court. i think UPC wanted to lay fibre cables around the town and casey objected to it because they want to use his pipes to lay the cable in.

but apparently it went back to court and casey got over ruled.

like i said i don't know how much of it is true or if any of it is.

hopefully someone on here might be able to shed a bit more light

hopefully it is a true story and UPC will be in Dungarvan. other wise casey is just going to keep robbing us

It would be require a massive investment from UPC to put cable down across the whole town. The only way I can see them in Dungarvan is by buying out Casey. Wouldn't be a bad thing really as at least then the town might get a decent tv service.

I agree. The TV service and customer service from Caseys isn't good at all. The only thing going for caseys TV is the Free sky movies. Otherwise his channel listings is abysmal.

it's a pain it can drop off and stay gone for hours, or days the first time it happened.

he also needs to drop his prices a bit.

That wont happen. Hes too greedy. He buys the cheapest hardware then fobs it off to us at above premium prices

I've started having serious problems again since Thursday. It seemed like it got back to normal then it started to slow down on Thursday night and now I'm only getting 1 to 3MB download for speed tests. This is absolutely ridiculous.

If you can access the routers user interface then try enabling the firewall and if its enabled increase the protection level. Also the best thing you could do is use a 94 key WPA2 key. The key caseys give you is absolutely useless.

    Still no luck unfortunately.

I've wired myself into the router and still getting horrible results.

*Edit* - I always test to the same Host in London - So it's not the location

Yes I have I've tried most of the basics. Turning off for 10 minutes - Rebooting from Router-UI and rebooting manually.

It was running fine during the week up until thursday night, I was getting 20MBPS+.

Did you check the firewall log? I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and I found SYN and DOS attacks on my IP so I turned up the firewall setting to high for a few days.

I never even released you asked me this question, sorry for not responding.

In any case I had a wireless issues with Casey's last week and they dropped by and due to a set of issues with the router it had to be replaced but I was informed that all the normal 30Mbps and 60Mbps were being upgraded to 120 for free for the usual price.

So I would suggest that you try and speed test to see if you've been upgraded also I was told they are working on bringing the Upload Speed to 10Mbps which is handy.

I did do a speedtest and it hasn't been upgraded. My upload speed is still an abysmal 1.8mb/s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭Hslaw

i was on Casey all along. some sales rep for Vodafone was going around a few weeks ago so i decided to give it a try. since it was meant to be 70 Mbs.

Once it was installed first thing i did was a speed test and it was no where near the agreed speed. its 15 meg the standard. Rang them up straight away no im not on a contract with them, ill keep it till the end of the month and then decide if ill keep it or not. its only €35 for the month.

If I were you I wouldn't believe what they say. We were told over a year ago that they were working on better upload speeds and we are still waiting on that promise.

Sometimes caseys is no better. A good few times over the past 9 months my internet speed dropped to 3mb/s for a few hours and then gradually went back to 50MB/s
