    Not irrelevant at all.

If I have a girlfriend at home and I want to potentially find a new additional one down the local pub before closing time, I might very well resort to the old traditional tried and tested "whipping out me flute" move.
“If I have a girlfriend...” a ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

If and when you finally give up on Conor

Whatever you have to say about his personality Conor will go down in history as one of, if not Ireland’s greatest Sportsperson ever.

He won't even go down as Ireland's greatest sportsperson in combat sport never mind overall.

Maybe the greatest self promoter in the history of Irish sport but that's about it

Partially. But not exactly. Since you edited it afterwards

Perhaps there were too many words in the sentence?

I always wondered if Irish people first became enamoured with the trappings of success when "Dallas" first aired on TV ?

American TV series have wielded way too much influence over Irish society, think baseball caps turned backwards !!!

Many of my heroes are extremely wealthy but it was the pursuit of their craft that drove them, not the accumulation of wealth.

Many things cannot be bought or taught.

To be fair, your post doesn't address the question. It might have been relevant if he used to help her and drive her around in a battered car before he became famous.

It's her own business. Maybe some rumours are true and maybe they are all false.

If some are true, well how many people out there put up with bad behaviour of their partners for whatever reason? Plenty of women putting up with bad behaviour from absolute wasters. There are probably women on this site reading reports and thinking she's only with him for the money when they themselves are staying with wasters doing worse, and without even bringing that benefit to the table!

I know alot of fellas in Limerick praising the like of Paul O'Connell and other Munster players because they we down to earth and not flash and in it for the money like soccer players.

But then they also love McGregor. Can't understand it

Conor McGregor is waiting for the results of "key physical tests" before learning whether he will be re-arrested over alleged sexual assault and indecent exposure.

The UFC star was taken into police custody on the French holiday island of Corsica last Friday following a complaint from a young woman.

She has claimed the 32-year-old Irishman assaulted her in the upmarket port town of Calvi on September 6

My point was the poster implied she only got with him because of the trappings of wealth.
But that's not the case as she was with him when she was in the dole queue.

Anyway it looks to be a case of Colleen Rooney 2.0 but possibly worse given the accusations.

In fairness Rooney was never arrested for sexual assault - it's happened to McGregor 3 times now.

There are lots of wealthy sports people around the world who never get arrested for such things - very unlucky for McGregor to have it happen to him numerous times really.

Conor "The Notorious sex offender" Mcgregor

He has had more sexual assault allegations against him than fights in the past 2 years.

Never got the hatred myself. Fair enough he looks and act like a pig , but there is something honest about his life. He comes from a fairly rough background and has done well for himself, I think that pisses some types off the most. We can all really be just kissing his rich ass, he made every penny himself and good luck to him.

He is not my type of person, but I would not be crossing or disrespecting him either. He is a self made man, I think that bugs the haters the most.

If he has done a crime he must do his time, like us all. I would say chokey in Corsica is fairly nasty mid summer. Hot as hell and throw in the mozzi's and cockroaches, worse than an Alexander Dumas novel. Lets hope he bumps into Abbé Farie, for his sanity alone.

that's the thing, he didn't come from a rough background. His dad was a Taxi driver. He grew up in "the mean streets" of suburban Lucan as a teenager. He hams up the Crumble-in thing as part of his image.

The fact that he made some cash (fair play) doesn't excuse him for acting like a complete scumbag and unfortunately being the face and disgraceful representation of Ireland (and pulling out the flag at every opportunity) to a lot of idiots worldwide.

Fintan O'Toole had a very good article about him a while back and one of his big gripes is the gurrier inner city Dub act as Conor had up sticks for the leafy suburbs as a child and was only playing up to and reinforcing the stereotypes of the inner city Dub

Maybe he is from a normal enough home, all things considered. But it is his prerogative and as I said good luck to him. I never envy or begrudge a man his fortune and he made every cent himself.

Man made the money, money never made the man.

How many of the men opposing me would feel comfortable leaving their sisters, daughters, even mothers, alone in a hotel room with Conor McGregor?

My son once asked to let him try MMA training but my DH and I said no way. He will be going to a rugby school anyway when he wants to get into sport.

Yeah cos no rugby lads have ever been accused of anything similar to this

sorry, but trying to condone being a scumbag as "courage of his conviction" is just rubbish.

There are laws, and some basic conventions of society.

that's like saying rapists should attack women because they are being true to themselves.

I think most people respect self made people, people that work for what they have. I'm not anti British but for example I don't get the fawning over someone like Prince William. What has he done all his life, he would probably shrivel up and die if he had to fend for himself.

But most self made people are decent, respectable people. McGregor certainly isn't. Making money does not give you carte blanche to act like a thug

I'm one of the camp that liked Conor when he came on the scene, was delighted for him when he got his first prize money (60k I think it was) and how much it meant to him. Then he went big time and I still liked him, even up to the time he lost his first fight, can't remember opponents name. A bit arrogant but thought it was just part of the act and that was fine.

But then the scumbag behaviour came out. The assaults that made the papers and the other assaults that didn't. He assaulted my cousins friend on a night out for example. And the cocaine and drug binges. And then the multiple allegations of sexual assault where I don't think there can be that much smoke without fire. Now I can't stand him. Even calling for lockdown on that cringey WhatsApp video. He's just a complete embarrassment now.

A kid from Dublin with more than a dream
He knew one day he'd be the king of the UFC
With a group of fighting Irish not to be pushed over
Not here take part they were here to take over
From the start John Kavanagh by his side whoever though they'd be known worldwide
After 60g's baby and a contracts to sign leaving his old life and the social welfare behind
And after two years came the featherweight champion of the world
And Conor said he's make him look like a little girl it only took ten seconds to show his talk wasn't cheap
As he connected with the left, and put Also to sleep
There's only one Conor McGregor, and there's no fighter better
And he's going to knock out Floyd Mayweather
So Floyd watch out 'cause the Irish are coming
You can talk all you want, buy you'll do nothin'
There's only one Conor McGregor, and there's no fighter better
And he's going to knock out Floyd Mayweather
So Floyd watch out 'cause the Irish are coming
You can talk all you want, buy you'll do nothin'
The lightweight belt was next in store
To do what no other fighter had ever done before
Became the first same time double champ in history
And took the chance to apologize to absolutely nobody
And came from working on a building site to getting million dollar pay cheque
From Dana White and his money, his cars and his clothes he flaunts
'Cause the double Champ does what the **** he wants
Mayweather, your old and your small and the is that you'll do feck all
'Cause precision beats power and timing beats speed
Why have you got a school bag Floyd you can't even read
There's only one Conor McGregor, and there's no fighter better
And he's going to knock out Floyd Mayweather
So Floyd watch out 'cause the Irish are coming
You can talk all you want, buy you'll do nothin'

And he's going to knock out Floyd Mayweather
So Floyd watch out 'cause the Irish are coming
You can talk all you want, buy you'll do nothin'
Well he dress to kill, buys Lamborghinis at will
Can get inside your head like he was Dr. Phil
And if you call him out, have a good reason why
Or he'll turn around and say who the **** is that guy
And on the twenty-six of August we're taking over Vegas
The Irish invasion you can't mistake us
Singing songs day and night 'til our voices are sore
Because when one of us goes, we all go to war
There's only one Conor McGregor, and there's no fighter better
And he's going to knock out Floyd Mayweather
So Floyd watch out 'cause the Irish are coming
You can talk all you want, buy you'll do nothin'

Mod: A couple of ground rules:
    • Unequivocally equating MMA as a sport to rape/assault is a ridiculous argument and adds nothing to the discussion. Please don't make the point again.
    • The purpose of the thread is to discuss the current allegation against Conor McGregor, not to discuss the sport as a whole - we have a forum for that already.
    • Any further use of derogatory terms or epithets will be met with a forum ban.

There should be no discussion on a serious allegation. It's only an allegation at this stage.

He was always a scumbag. This is someone who spoke about carrying a brick around in his school bag in case he needed it in a fight. What kind of centred human being would even consider an action like that. Saying he changed is ignoring all the evidence. He's just a famous version of what he always was.
