Pretty cool footage of a Hawaiian predatory caterpillar snatching a fly...

    ... then eating it...
    223271.gif

... then grooming itself after its nice meal. Check out the needle-like "claws"

    More unusual ones:

If you thought Tsavo maneless lions were odd, take a look at these maned lionesses from Mombo, in the Okavango delta:

    grant4.jpg

    GrantAtkinsonMombo_20100528_1781.jpg

(Unfortunately for these lionesses, male lions from other prides tend to attack them on sight, and of course, they rarely if ever get to reproduce).

Very rare camera trap photo of a Florida panther chasing a wild pig:

    Florida%20Panther.jpg

    Thoughtful cougar:

    Cougar_03.jpg

    tumblr_kyq3nzubLB1qa1c6bo1_500.jpg

More weirdness from Mombo, Botswana; a lone African wild dog that first joined a couple of jackals, inviting them to hunt with her and basically becoming one of them. Later, the wild dog even kidnapped the jackal's pups trying to raise them as her own in her own den- regurgitating flesh for them and all-, much to the annoyance of the real parents who tried several times to retrieve their pups. Eventually they reached a "truce" and apparently they all live in harmony once again.

    gallery_8193_586_125524.jpg

As if that wasn´t bizarre enough, this particular wild dog (the last one in the area after the rest died out, partly due to an increase in lion population) gets along well with some of the local hyenas- usually enemies of wild dogs- and sometimes everyone (hyenas, jackals and the wild dog) are seen feeding together peacefully.
    wild-dog-mombo2.jpg

    wild-dog-mombo1.jpg

    wild-dog-mombo4.jpg

    wild-dog-mombo3.jpg

The wild dog even has "friendly" interaction with the adult hyenas:

    That cheetah is absolutely adorable!

For anyone interested in the wild dog story, there's a short article about it on the last page of this month's BBC Wildlife magazine (there's also a special on David Attenborough so it's definitely worth buying). There's a documentary being made about it too. I think it's going to be shown on Nat Geo Wild in January/February but I'll have to double check that.

Awesome! :D They've been making some really great wildlife documentaries lately!

Very rare pic: a leopard and a cheetah face off. According to the photographers, the leopard tried to steal the cheetah's kill but the cheetah (and this is unusual) didn´t give it up so easily. Both cats even ate from the carcass together for a while before the leopard dragged it away.

These are rather painful to look at. A wild leopard in Mysore, India tried to jump a fence but it fell on it becoming basically impaled.

Fortunately, it was rescued and it recovered.

Love this black and white shot of a snow leopard. Apparently the photographer who took it gives 10% of his sales to the Snow Leopard Trust.

Nice photo of a clouded leopard. I've become very interested in this species recently. Found a great Facebook page recently about them and the work the guy who runs it is doing with them. He's found some really generous sponsors who are giving him £20 for each like the page receives. I've put a link to the page under the photo.
