Hope everyone doing well. I'm 5 weeks 3 days today and apart from being a little tired and wretching slightly this morning I have no symptoms. Boobs are sore on and off and have mild cramping in the evening times. Slightly worried but not sure if it's normal or not. Anyone else like this? I lost the last pregnancy around this time so feeling fairly anxious but will just have to wait and see

All good here Jezzabelle, I'm almost 9 weeks now which feels like it's gone fast but dragging at the same time.
I think your sysmtoms sounds normal enough. I still get cramping, almost period like, but I'm assuming it's the body making room for the expanding womb. Although I totally understand your anxiety about it though

Thanks, yeah I suppose I just expected symptoms to be progressing by now but I suppose it is still very early. I know myself I'm just overly anxious and need to try relax but it's easier said than done!. I am booked in for early scan next week, all going well, so that might ease my mind a little

9 weeks is good, not long to go now to go for your dating scan!

    What's BTT?

On the symptom front, the queasiness is all but gone. There are still certain smells that trigger me - specifically lamb and eggs. I'm craving savoury foods with a strong flavour (a consistent craving in my last two pregnancies from start to finish so nothing new) and still getting a multitude of cramps - period cramps, muscle cramps, dull aches, stretching cramps.
I'm also incredibly constipated and hoping sincerely that's the reason for my weight loss coming to a complete halt. I've been on a (midwife-approved) calorie-controlled diet and was doing quite well, but since I found out I'm pregnant, I've put on 1lb. I'm obese, so really hoping that doesn't continue this early!

BBT is your Basal Body Temperture.
See this link for more info on it. https://www.verywellfamily.com/ovulation-on-body-basal-temperature-chart-1960284 or any other googled website.
I was recording it to determine when I ovulated as BBT will increase after ovulation. If you don't get pregnant it will drop back down to pre ovulation temperatures, if you get pregnant, it'll remain high.
I'm still taking my temperatures in the mornings, and noticed the last couple of days they started to drop a bit. So I was getting kinda freaked out.

Hey, I'm pretty much the very same as you! I'm 5 weeks 5 days! And I've been having the same thoughts about symptoms - I have a 3 year old and when I look back on that pregnancy I feel like I had lots of symptoms especially morning sickness but I also remember that it all kicked in towards the end of the 1st trimester, like maybe week 8 or thereafter. On this pregnancy so far I have the very same as you - occasionally tender boobs, some stretchy cramp type pains in the evenings but nothing too terrible. A lot of the time there is nothing to remark on. I think it is just normal cos it is so early. I remember the last time it just changed more or less over night for me and I went from feeling fine to serious morning sickness week 8 and it lasted the rest of my pregnancy! So I'm just taking it as it comes...

Ah, apologies. You had said BTT instead of BBT and I was wondering what I was missing. Personally have never tracked it but then I've been fortunate enough to get pregnant within 1 year for all three pregnancies. I would agree with your husband though, best not to add more stress by monitoring now and try to take it easy.

Good luck to you too x

    Hi guys!

Congratulations to everyone. I am pregnant with my first due on the 14th of September. It was a big shock for me and my partner but we’re finally getting our heads around it.

I’m 7 weeks and 5 days today and have a scan on the 8th of Feb where I’ll be 8 weeks and 5 days. I am really anxious as you really don’t know what to expect the first time around!

My symptoms are mainly sore boobs, loss of appetite (although gradually coming back), and a nose like a bloodhound. Luckily I don’t have much nausea.

Do you any of you know when approximately you have your first scan in hospital and how they communicate this scan date to you? I’ve opted to go public. I attended my GP 2 weeks ago and he said he would send on a referral letter to the Rotunda. I’m just not sure when to expect it and when it arrives I want to grab it straight away in case it’s accidentally opened!

    Thanks

    Congrats to you too :)

I just went onto the Holles Street website and booked myself in. My scan date came by post the next day for March 11th, which will make me 13 weeks pregnant.

Morning all. Has anyone tried out the large U/V shaped body pillows & have any they recommend? I'm only 9w5d but really struggling with sleep already - trying not to sleep on my tummy or back but when I sleep on my side I end up with a really stiff shoulder & neck! Went for physio for it last week but can't afford that every week!!

Just hopping in from June, but I have a big u shaped pillow. Love it but it has one downside and I haven't found one that fixed that. The fabric in the area where it bends is really tight so it's sore against the shoulder or neck if you like up against it.
I'm kind of on top of it right now to prevent that but it is a little annoying. I do love that the pillow is in my back however and that I can put my legs on it or put the other side of the pillow between my knees.
My left side gets numb when I'm lying on it so this sure helps.

    Hi all,

Due number 2 towards end of September all going well. Have a 3.5year old but had 2 miscarriages on the journey to conceiving her. Also has gestational diabetes on that pregnancy. As a result we've been linked in with the hospital from the start and have had 2 scans in the EPAU. Yesterday we seen a heartbeat which was a lovely relief.

Trying not to worry/overanalyse everything but naturally that's easier said than done. Symptoms very much coming and going. Get waves of feeling nauseous and breast tenderness comes & goes.

Have been trying to follow GD diet since I found out. Back in hospital next week to do first round of bloods for sugar levels and have been told I'll have to do them every 6 weeks as pregnancy progresses. Hoping to stay diet controlled if possible. Ended up on metformin in last pregnancy. Diet is quite restrictive so it'll be a long 9months but totally worth it if we have a happy healthy baby at the end.

Wishing everyone the best of luck over the coming weeks and months. It can be tough both physically and emotionally so be kind to yourselves. A quote I heard the other day sums it up perfectly.. "Motherhood is a mental illness" :)

Hi all, Congratulations to everyone. So glad to find an up to date feed . Due my second around Sept 4th 🙈 my first is 10 so myself and partner feel as if we're starting all over again so many things have changed . My gp told me to download an app for help which I did but couldn't find an irish one so stuck with an American one which is fine but their system is different to here. Going for our 12 week scan on the 24th eeek .
Symptoms seem to have died down a little not as nauseous as last week ,still a little bloated and tired .
Anyone know of any sites that do subscription boxes for pregnancy. I've seen lovely ones but again either UK or USA based.

I’ve been pretty bad with nausea, not actually vomiting just constantly feeling sick. Tried peppermint tea today with a slice of lemon and honey and it seems to have worked! Worth trying girls x

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Cameoette

I will try that Ifen. Not physically getting sick either but constantly feeling like I'm about to. I love peppermint tea so will give that a go. I know ginger helps too.

I must try ginger actually. I tried ginger ale and it made me feel worse but ginger tea is an idea, thanks.

None of my jeans fit! Not a single pair :( I didn't think it would happen to soon although I read that second and subsequent times around you show sooner...I'll need to get a few bits over the weekend. Long tops and leggings and dresses. Elastic waistbands all the way! I'm not feeling too bad otherwise, no morning sickness as such yet but I do find I feel sick when I get hungry. Also I'm only in the mood for carbs at the moment. Which probably isn't helping my waistline issues lol :D

I was very bad with nausea for a couple of weeks and I tried everything, ginger tea, crackers , toast, cold water etc then someone suggested sour sweets and i must say i ended up buying 3 packets of sour worms as it seemed to be the only thing that worked.

I'm in the same boat with the waistline (not that I had much of one before!). Not even nearly far enough along at 6 weeks to be showing, but I am SO FREAKIN' BLOATED! Every morsel of food that passes my lips must be 90% gas or something. I blow up like a balloon and I'm puffy as heck.

A few mouthfuls of Coca cola worked for me on my last pregnancy, I was far sicker on that one then on my previous ones.Ginger biscuits seem to consistently help too.

Ah I'm glad to hear it's not just me! My belly just seems have totally popped out. I generally wear loose fitting tops anyway but if I put anything tight on I think it's very noticeable because the weight is all to the front. Can't see myself being able to hide it til 12 weeks without a lot of scarves and coats :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 144 ✭✭Plum Pud

I'm also glad to hear it's not just me :D I am so bloated and really feeling the squeeze in my work trousers. They're super uncomfortable. Trying to hide it is so hard especially as I'm feeling so drained and nauseous. But I carry a bit of weight so I don't think I'll show too soon :D

Had a scan in the Early Preg Unit last week and saw the heartbeat and that all is ok thankfully. That was a huge relief and have since gotten my appointments for a dating scan, booking app, breastfeeding and pregnancy classes.
food aversion still there with slight nausea from time to time. Feel absolutely wiped most days no matter how much sleep i get.
pants starting to get a bit tight alright, but nothing too noticeable.
Looking forward to the dating scan so I can start telling family.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Ah that's great lorindol, it's so nice and reassuring to see the heartbeat isn't it? I had an early scan a few weeks ago too and I actually got the scan on video, I couldn't believe it and can't stop looking at it :)

I also have the good aversion and nausea. It's really tough but the tiredness, I'm with you on that one!! When is your dating scan? I'm Feb 24th so 2 weeks and I cannot wait, particularly to tell people :)
my family know and I was away recently with my mum and sisters and they commented about how obvious I am.. None of my Jeans or trousers fit any more 😂

Had my booking appt today at 8+4, all good and have my dating scan in March and another appt to see the consultant later in March, delighted to be receiving so much care already to be honest, all certified days off work too which is nice!

Would you get the full day off work for your appointments? I Know work should allow you to attend but didnt think youd get the full day. I made a booboo and never sent my referral letter, I presumed the doctor surgery would do it. Im 11 weeks now and my referral was only sent on Monday. Hopefully wont be waiting too long

Hi All, we got the news we all dread to hear on Monday :( Very difficult as this would have been our first baby so we don’t have that reassurance of knowing we carried a healthy baby before.

Anyway, don’t want to make this a negative thread as it’s very much positive for all you still expecting. I’ll jump into a mmc thread and feel sorry for myself there!

The very best of luck to you all x

I'm a primary teacher in a special school and it's a certified day so the school can pay a substitute. Last pregnancy I had a different principal and used to come in after appointments but it was really stressful waiting so long in the hospital and I'd rush straight in but I never made it in before 11, it was so unfair on the kids and SNAs to not have cover so it's much better to have the full day and I got caught up on loads of paperwork so win-win!

    Hi Ifen,

I was on this thread 2 years ago, Due October 2018 and I unfortunately also lost my first baby. It was also a mmc.

I had a baby boy in March last year and am 7 weeks pregnant again. I, too, was worried because I hadn’t carried a healthy baby but it all worked out fine. Don’t lose hope. I’m so sorry this has happened to you, I know how disappointing and upsetting it is.

    Mind Yourself x

I also lost our first baby in 2016 Ifen, it's more common than you'd think but I'm currently sitting here juggling an almost three year old and a 5 month old. Both very healthy, straightforward boring pregnancies so take heart. I think the best advice I got was to figure out whether the best route for my grief was to work at conceiving again immediately or take time out to heal independently. That's very individual thing.

Congrats to you all, I still can't believe I have a 5 month old rolling round the floor having found out about my September 19 baby on new year's Day.

    Ifen,

So sorry to hear this. It's so crap and theres nothing anyone can say that will make you feel better. I had 2 losses before I had my daughter and felt exactly like you. Like it would never happen.

It's really tough. It's a rolleroaster of emotions. I felt sad, angry and even unbelievably guilty like it was my fault that I let my OH down. All I can say is be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to feel ALL of the emotions. Its important to grieve.

Fingers crossed all will work out in the future. Thinking of you x

How are people feeling? I've just hit week 9 and feel like symptoms have eased up massively. It's very disconcerting feeling ok. Trying not to let my mind runaway with itself and think the worst. Not in hospital until the 11th. Feels like forever away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 81 ✭✭Eireog1

Hazelnut Button I'm week 10 and most of the symptoms are gone as well I was just thinking the same as you. I find this time 10 weeks onwards until the scan to be the most difficult as your mind goes into overdrive. My scan is scheduled for the 12th which feels like ages away and is my LL's second birthday so I really hope it goes well.
