It's things like this that makes me hate society these days. Between this and Baby its Cold Outside and PETA with their bullshirt anti-animal phrases...

I have often heard Irish radio stations play Mylo - Drop The Pressure, especially before 9am while taking the kids to school with no bleeps for every time the song says MuthaFuka (which is a lot). Where is the outrage about Mylo?? Or Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines' rapey lyrics. We can't have double standards now. In fact let's ban music altogether.

Actually there was a good deal of controversy over that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blurred_Lines#Controversies

Hadn’t heard of this lad until I stumbled on this thread, Did a quick google. Seems to really fancy himself as representing the young hip Ireland. Jesus Christ what a tool!

I have a very low opinion of RTE generally speaking but I am glad they have rebutted this clowns cry for attention. They probably should have completely ignored him though.

Next thing he will be running for the Aras. Best nip it in the bud lest he get ideas I suppose.

Thank christ the beatles arent around now or they would have been slaughtred. Ever hear of a song "woman is the (n word) of the world"?. Its all about rights and how we treat people. But im sure the precious ones wouldnt really give heed to that.

We live in the era of the offended. The problem is we molly coddled a whole generation of metros and milenials and it has breath vegan hipster feminists and meninists who think the best way to change something is exaggerate their feelings.

I mean ffs what if one of the many dictators of the world decide to go all Hitler. Are we going to cry about that offending us in some moronic way of thinking that will stop it? I mean grow up kids. Its ok to not like something.

If i have a client who tells me he hates foreigners and women, but he has a mental incapacity, should i get offended and make a legal complaint or do i just ignore it. Offense will happen peeps. Grow up get over it and look at the bigger picture. Of course stand up for yourself if you are being targeted. But a f'n song that is not targeting anyone, but telling a story?????

Part of Athlone Town, Co. Westmeath, is named '****** Hill.'
In case anyone gets offended, ******s (in my day) were sticks for kindling to light the fire.

Hence the name ****** Hill in Cornamaddy, Athlone, where folks went to collect kindling back in the day, I guess.

A whole load of places (a lot more than that), will all have to be renamed. They can't continue. Burn them down get rid of all traces and start again. it's the only way.

Thought of this tune when i saw this thread. It was Lennon solo. He did get some stick for it but he had no problem telling people where to go. Ironically it was a feminist song. The metoo lot might find themselves a bit conflicted.

Here's lennon talking about it - gives James Connolly "the great irishman" a mention and all!

Why dont we ban rap songs while were at it.

I don't think the rap thing is a valid comparrison as raps songs with bad language tend not to played on the radio before the watershed. Suggestove language yes, but not F, N, or even the other F bombs

I would often put this clip up in debates like this.

Seen it quite a few years ago now, but its all 100% right.

It is OK to be offended.

As someone who wouldn't listen to his show, but had the misfortune to turn over to him today in the car, I was wondering if he ever discussed the backlash against him?

Or did he just let it go unmentioned, like the way D'arcy, Turbidy, Joe and Marion let the RTE wages' announcements go unmentioned?

He should at least have had the b@lls to acknowledge that the vast majority of people didn't agree with him.
He's still allowed to hold whatever views he wants, but he should not have just ignored it on this radio show.

If you're big enough to start demanding something, be big enough to know when the public doesn't agree with you.

A ******, in the meaning of "bundle", is an archaic English unit applied to bundles of certain items. Alternate spellings in Early Modern English include fagate, faget, fagett, ******t, fagot, fagatt, fagott, ffagott, and faggat.[1]

For the first year since that damned song became an earworm, I've managed to get through the entire festive season without hearing it.
Sometimes this involved fancy footwork, like punting the radio out of the window, or simply walking away quickly if it wasn't mine, as others take exception to me crushing and stamping on their possessions.

I've just been listening back to a podcast from Dave Fanning's show - it's an interview with his former producer Ian Wilson who is retiring. He started out booking bands when he was in Trinity College (The Clash, The Buzzcocks and The Chieftains got mentioned during the interview) and in time went on to 2FM. He came up with the idea of recording live sessions with up and coming bands because there was a studio lying empty in RTE. The first band they brought in was U2 because he wanted to see how a noisy rock band would fare out in there. Over the years all sorts of acts got a chance to do a session and some went on to better things. Later on he developed the dance music side of things on 2FM and ruffled feathers/made connections in the European Broadcasting Union.

Listening to him talk, I realised that this man of retirement age still has far more fire in his belly, more passion about new music and a belief that settling for banality is wrong than people half his age. Now we get clowns with fancy hair who get offended by a 30 year old song sung by fictional characters

If Eoghan McDermott was sat next to me on a train, I'd move seats; rather than listen to this obnoxious trendy lecturing me on the latest social justice movement. He is only slightly less irritating than his sister (ya know, yer one from Dublin with a Manhattan accent). I've thought of a great new punishment for the dregs in Mountjoy: Make them visit the McDermott household for Christmas. A week there should be enough to turn them away from a life of crime.
