Just a little idea for Eirta's Pokemon tournament. Seeing as how the last one took so long, why not just do a normal tournament setting.

1. Groups, Top 2 Qualify, All matches played DS vs DS
2. Last 16-32 etc, Still play on DS
3. When 8 competitors remain, then switch to PBR.
4. Continue until winner is announced.

No hassle, tournament would finish in 2-2.5 hours. Noms PKMN tournament was just tedious just sitting around waiting for your name to be called, & watching EVERY match really took up the time of the day.

Not criticising, just throwing an idea out there.

I'll put this out there as food for thought on my views on the Nom Con tournament.

I expected players to have some knowledge of competitive play, even if it's just from the in-game battle tower. I also planned on having a simplified version of the VGC rulings with Sleep Clause for good measure.

Instead I get loads of queries on "how do I make sure I get to play with my friend whom I made my Doubles team with?". "What's a Double Battle?", and other really noobish questions that made me seriously question my sanity. Don't get me wrong, noob questions are good, but the sheer volume of them was mind boggling. It made me wonder did anyone (with the exception of Boards.ies) actually play the game at all.

Playing matches DS to DS is fine as long as everyone all has Pokemon of the same level. Trust me on this, unless it is drilled into every player months before, they wouldn't. DPP games don't have an auto level setting outside wi-fi. HGSS have, but it only works on HGSS games. So unless a level cap is set in advance, be prepared for questions like "why can't I use my Tyranitar?".

In short, make an FAQ and just lol at the number of players that wouldn't read it and email you simple questions over and over and over again.

Except that there's only a max. of 2 hours available, so it will be single elimination all the way through, although it really all does depend on numbers on the day.

If we'd had even 1 extra Wii and host on the day it could have cut the time the tournament took in half, though I'm sure that's easier to say than arrange.

yeah i like the idea of extra wii's rather than ds to ds battles, it would just make it more exciting, but yeah its trying to organize 2 or even 3 more wii's and then there's space to put them and tv's too
