They only have two hours a week of TV they are using social media to get eyes on there YouTube shows and other social media outlets.

Of that two hours nearly 30 minutes of it is add breaks in the States.

They have a deep roster now and need to rotate a lot of it.

Maybe so but that should of 100% been on AEW Dynamite!

Yeah that easily could have gone on the show. Both the Cody/Cardona and the Best Friends tag matches went over ten minutes. Chop a minute from both.

With regards to the Cody/Sky match ive a feeling if anyone turns heel they will do it with Sky (even though Cody would be the better heel)

my guess scu turns on sky and cody heel turn is still a while away

Frankie K really has been flying under the radar. He's a good worker and just looks naturally heelish. Would be a solid addition to any heel group.

Yea that could work, since SCU have been just floating around since they lost the tag titles.

Yea maybe they could have SCU take out Sky, he is off TV for a few weeks, comes back maybe gets backed up by Cody, leads to a tag match Cody/Sky vs SCU then a rematch with Cody vs Sky for the title which Sky wins the belt, followed by a Cody heel turn

Night 2 of the AEW Women's Tag Team Cup

Veda and Tony again on comms, I really hope they keep Veda.

Again the two matches tonight were better than I was expecting.

Big Swole & Lil' Swole (Nicole Savoy former Shimmer champion) vs Leva Bates and Rache Chanel

    Madusa interrupts the draw and...

Dasha Gonzalez (gets her wish )and Rachael Ellering vs Diamante and Ivelisse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Dasha Gonzalez can really go!Was hugely impressed and hope we see more of her in the ring!

Dark matches for tonight again showing it might be one of the best wrestling shows around.

    Penelope Ford vs. Rachael Ellering
    Kip Sabian vs. Michael Stevens
    Rey Fenix vs. Lee Johnson
    Shawn Spears vs. Alex Chamberlain
SCU vs. The Butcher and The Blade
The Natural Nightmares vs. The Hybrid 2
Private Party vs. Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison
Billy and Austin Gunn vs. Shawn Dean and M’Badu
Jurassic Express vs. Aaron Solow, Corey Hollis and Pineapple Pete

Aaron Solow? Isn't he Bayley's fella?

AEW beating Raw in all 3 hours of the 18-34 demo is crazy to the point where I can't wrap my head around it. Truth be told I thought with NXT being an established WWE brand they'd be lagging behind them still at this stage, but they've flown by that and now it's Raw they're beating in a key demo. It's insane.

I think fans want AEW to succeed. Wrestling fans want good entertainment and SD/RAW isnt cutting it. AEW is providing it and if successful long term, it can have a knock on effect of reforming WWE.

If i had the choice between AEW and NXT, Id choose AEW simply because I want them to succeed. AEW being successful may eventually cause a reform of how WWE presents its product. NXT being successful over AEW won't accomplish that.

People want WWE to perform well but apart from the Takeovers, they generally don't. AEW are much more consistent.

Id love AEW to go head to head with Raw.

TNA got giddy and thought they could go head to head with Raw 10 years ago. They packed it in and went back to Thursday less than 2 months later.

If AEW are smart they will stick with Wednesdays and beating NXT 99% of the time until they get bigger or NXT is withdrawn.

That was a really good episode of Dark, Schiavone calling MJF a little prick might be the highlight for me, Tony has been class in AEW.

Rey Fenix might be the most creative wrestler active today, that sit-out Muscle Buster Bomb was a thing of beauty.

The Gunn Club are now 4-0, could a title shot be on the horizon for them?

The package for Scorpio Sky was really well done, looking forward to him against Cody and the Tag Team appreciation night later on Dynamite.

Would've preferred TH2 to go over the Natural Nightmares but glad to see The Butcher and Blade get some momentum. Butcher is so different.

Matt Jackson is probably the worst thing about AEW.

The booker hitting double clotheslines on men bigger than him is just pathetic.

    MJF is just that good.

Mike Chioda is All Elite :)

Cody The Prince of Pro Wrestling as JR say that's one hell of a marketing term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

No promo package before the match, straight to the dark order afterwards, constant mentions that this is basically Cody's part time job.

Safe to say they have no plans for Sky.

Ricky took the spiked piledriver like the legend he is.

    Overall, a disappointing show.

Way too many things happened at once - tag team appreciation night, the Sky / Cody match, the FTR heel turn, Cassidy going over Jericho, MJF getting come-uppance... one or at most two of those things are all you need for the weekly TV show, for any of them to actually have meaning.

The Cody vs Sky match was the biggest disappointment. The match itself was fine, and I'd like to see them in a rematch, but Cody going over clean and then the quick movement onto the Brodie promo was about as bad an outcome as you could do with Sky. He kicked out of the Crossroads but where does he go now?

The problem with AEW is they’re so focused on beating NXT in the ratings they stack their Card and have so much going on in order to keep the fans from switching over that they lose a bit of storytelling because of it.

This week should have been the making of Sky but again it felt like it was all a setup for a Brody Cody match. It diminishes his fight against Cody. They should have left the match breathe after wards and start the brody build next week.

AEW is already established they can slow down now and they will still comfortably beat NXT.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭Cherry_Cola

Show was only okay overall. Definitely trying to cram too much into it alright and the absolute hack of Jericho. The ending to the match was so awkward.

The Lance Archer promos have been great but want to see him in the ring again, been a while now it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,291 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

So they were saying the TNT title was unfinished but then Brodie has it while Cody has a different one?

Maybe it's because I skipped through but what's happening in the coming weeks? they have a special episode airing on the 22nd to try and get some of the Playoffs viewers. And they say All Out is on September 5th but then they advertise All Out Part 1 next Wednesday?

It's last years All Out they're showing.
Not a great Dynamite at all tbh, worst in a while.

I really don't know if many people have benefitted from the Cody open challenge matches, don't feel it's done much to give any talent a rub. Aside from Eddie Kingston but his promo was one of the highlights if we're honest.
The Lance Archer segment was odd with him having written on Jake the Snake, that's just kinda weird and goofy.
The tag appreciation night was pretty arbitrary and the segment with the legends was a bit long.
It's also really starting to seem like AEW are adverse to giving their female talent a story. It seems like none of the Women's champions have had anything of substance to do as champ and that in general they rarely get stories, it's a real failure on their part imo.

Enjoyed the MJF/Moxley segment and the Jericho/Cassidy match was okay even though the ending was pretty sloppy and lacklustre.

Next episode is a Saturday on the 22nd, not sure if they did enough to get people to tune into it then but we'll see.

Yeah they really do struggle to communicate basic information at times.

If I recall correctly, Brodie mentioned the Saturday 22nd Dynamite show in his promo before any of the announcers had informed us of the schedule change. If I hadn't read on here about the next few shows moving, I would have been very confused.

Also, they very clumsily mentioned that the All Out Part 1 airing on YouTube next Wednesday is LAST YEAR'S ppv. Didn't even have 2019 written anywhere in the graphic.

Ah, OK. So when would part 2 be? Is the following week's episode on the 29th?

I agree about the women. They have that tag tournament but is there a number 1 contender for the title a few weeks out?
Only story for the women is Britt Baker and the heinous conspiracy against her.

I can't remember the last time I use "heinous" outside referencing Bill & Ted

Maybe last night was a bad example to go by, but decided to watch the Jericho v Cassidy match to see all the Hype bout Cassidy.

And thats all it appears to be - hype! If a Raw/SD match ended like that, it would be criticised for the wk.

The Piledriver on The Rock n Roll Express was very well done though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

Is the women's division still booked by Omega?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,291 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah, that Jericho/Cassidy ending looked botched. He didn't get the full pin and there was no reason Jericho couldn't have got out of it. Would think with Jericho involved, he would have kicked out and redone the ending to make it look better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,886 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

The mousetrap pin looks very awkward as the bodies seem to go the wrong way at first and its one Orange used before AEW.

    Here it is being demo'ed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,291 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah have seen it before, but think for someone Cassidy's size, Jericho was too, um, broad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,192 ✭✭✭ThePott

Jericho was off in that match in general, was a bit of a sloppy showing.
I know people are pointing to the women's tag tournament as them 'doing something' with their women's roster. If we're honest though by virtue of the fact it's on youtube they're putting it on a lesser level than their usual programming and that's not even commenting on how the women's roster is presented on Dynamite. The only talent who has had much of a story is Britt Baker and she's injured anyway. It just feels like the tournament was thrown together as if to say, "See, we are using our women's roster!"

You're telling me on Tag Appreciation Night of all Nights you can't put a Women's tag match from the tag tournament on TV? GTFOH.
I just think it's one of the more glaring shortfalls AEW have and despite being called on it have done little to address it.

Honestly, if you want a good match to see if you're into Orange Cassidy you should check out B-Cool vs Orange Cassidy from OTT Fifth Year Anniversary. Hot crowd, not much story to invest in before hand and gives you a good idea of what OC is. Fantastic match!

They should of had the final of the women’s tag on tag team appreciation seems a no brainier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

If I remember correctly, the first week of the women's tournament, did the Dynamite announcers even mention that it was on? I know they mentioned it this week and showed the bracket. But I honestly can't remember if they did this in previous weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,641 ✭✭✭RollieFingers

Good episode, delighted to see an appearance from Mike Chioda, hopefully he'll be a permanent fixture in AEW.

Really liked the tag team angle, FTR have to be heels, and as mentioned Ricky took the Spike Piledriver like a champ.

Cody/Sky had a really big match feel to it with Cody having the entourage entrance along with the new championship. I wouldn't be against Mr. Brodie Lee being the man to take it off Cody next week.

I find the criticism of the Deadly Draw a bit strange, AEW constantly get stick for not showcasing the women's division and then when they put a tournament on they still get criticised. I thought Brandy explained it well when she said it was on YouTube so that the competitors could have their own show and they also didn't have any time restraints to adhere to.

AEW 792,000, NXT didn't chart according to Alvarez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,886 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

NXT ranked 62nd most watched show of the night.

AEW was 9th most watched show of the night.

It was mentioned because that's where Cameron/Ariane Andrew appeared before the tournament when Nyla Rose drew her as a partner

Fun fact: Over the last eight Dynamites Kenny Omega alone has had over two and a half times the match time of the entire AEW women's division (86 minutes vs. 32)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Everytime they get to the 900k mark the next week seems to take a hit in ratings

I'm not trying to come off as an AEW hater, I like the product and want it to succeed but they just frequently come off as insincere at times.
I genuinely think that reaction is exactly what they wanted. So they can say look, we are doing something with our female roster.

Is it really showcasing them to put them on Youtube for 3 weeks? You think the reaction would be the same if they did the tag tournament or TNT tournament on Youtube? Even that logic doesn't wash.

If you want to showcase them, why not do it on television instead of Youtube? If having their own show is a big deal, why not do it from now on and not just for 3 weeks? We can talk about time restraints all we want but of the 4 matches so far, only one has been over 10 minutes and just barely. If you look at the times of most Dynamite matches, that is abysmal, in fact consistently the shortest matches on Dynamite are the women's matches.

It reeks of lip service without putting in any actual effort.

Even putting aside that, the booking on Dynamite hasn't been much better. As mentioned, has any female champion had any worthwhile storyline since they launched? Shida has done next to nothing as champion and they just have her beating randoms in 5 minute matches for months now. AEW were very quick to shout about equality and opportunity but they're not following through when it comes to the women's roster imo. I guarantee if this was the 'other promotion' people would be up in arms and rightfully so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,641 ✭✭✭RollieFingers

I think AEW could do more with its women's roster but I also think when they get criticism for that and subsequently hold a women's tag team tournament and still get criticism it's a bit of a case of damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I also think that if there was no corona and some injuries and they were able to use the likes of Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, Riho, Yuka Sakazaki, Emi Sakura, Bea Priestly, Jamie Hayter, Shanna, Sadie Gibbs and others that the roster and tournament itself could be better. Are the likes of Rache Chanel, Leva Bates, Brandi and Dasha the wrestlers you want in +10 minute matches on Dynamite? I'm not sure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,192 ✭✭✭ThePott

I don't think it's damned if you do damned if you don't. I just think you can't talk about how you're showcasing them when in reality you're just shoving them onto Youtube and expecting people to be satisfied with it. Meanwhile they're promoting a platform for women when they don't give their female talent much time to shine. It's the insincerity, I mentioned again.

I know they've had injuries and travel restrictions but so has the male roster, you can book around it. You can't say we don't have a women's roster to work with right now while at the same time having a whole women's tournament. If they can make a whole tournament they can absolutely make a decent match for Dynamite. Aside from Fyter Fest in the last two months, only one women's match has had 10 minutes on Dynamite and just barely at that. Even if there were short matches if it built on a story or they had some development it would be excusable but they rarely do. Most of the matches are barely 5 minutes. Shorten some of the indulgent entrances and you could probably solve it.

Let's be honest if there is anyway to hide someone being green it is in a tag bout in a well booked match. They can very easily make matches or build stories with the talent they have but choose not to. Like seriously, it feels like people are afraid to critique AEW because it looks like you're anti-competition but they frequently bottle it with their women on the roster and have been doing so for a long time. Like as someone mentioned above and I alluded to, they had a tag team appreciation night and didn't have any matches from their tag tournament.
From the beginning they could just have had put one match from the tournament a week and had the final at All-Out and actually build something and give the roster some proper exposure. Is Shida even going to have an opponent for All Out or are they going to throw something together last second cause all the other feuds are building already.

AEW have done an excellent job at a lot of things but I don't see how anyone couldn't see this is as a valid criticism and as mentioned before I do think if this was WWE then there'd already be a hashtag about it. AEW rarely give the women a chance to shine.
