Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For those who've built theirs..how long did it take?
With my 9 year old doing most of the assembly I’d say it took us about 6 hours over two weeks, I’d guess on my own I could have done it in 4. BUT the internal structure is so cool, and invisible when the model is complete, so I probably would have lingered over it even on my own.

You let a child near it

Looks cool. So the question now is Christmas dinner gets cooked or my rocket gets built!:)

If you can contain yourself, it could be an ideal St Stephens Day build to linger over?

My younger daughter saw the box and said “You’re not building that without me!” - My Dad instincts won, and she got her way. 100% my favourite Lego of all time, even if I only built 10% of it - even beats my 6382 Fire Station which was my favourite as a kid.

It was. The postman even phoned me because there was nobody home. The number must have been on the box. I think there's post tomorrow?

I've not gotten this but I'm a fan of spaceflight and I've seen a few videos of people building it and its an impressive bit of kit for an impressive bit of machinery that was built in rhe 1960s.

Indeed, it will probably arrive in the morning. If not, it's not so bad. Unlike you it not for my son's present. So if one of ours was not to arrive before Christmas I'm glad it was mine and not yours.

    Aw, that's lovely! Thank you!

Took about 2 hours with the help of our eldest lad last night. It's an ideal build to do with kids as lots of the steps are repeated x2 or x4 so plenty to keep two builders going through most of the 12 bags.

Still figuring out where to display it, it's massively tall!

if they ever do that red launch tower, i am going to set it up with a few led lights like the night launches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,268 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Would really like to get a tower for it alright, I've nowhere to display it horizontally on the provided stands so it has me feeling very nervous every time I look at it at present (a trip to Ikea for some display cases is coming up at the end of the month!).

Had no idea this existed. I just got the Women of Nasa set in the states in the Lego stores. Surprised this wasn't on the shelves. Bought one today!! :D

Boo is right. Wonder will the guy who come up with it release plans himself for anyone to build now he knows theres no money to be made off of it.

I'm sure there'd be nothing stopping him releasing plans on eBay at $5 a pop or so?

I managed to get the block list and instructions from the builder for the tower so gonna give it a go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Are they publicly available? Did you pay?

    No and No.

The lady was very specific I don't post them on line. Apparently some Chinese Lego rip off company have been hounding them for the parts.

What's the bricklink price look like for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,375 ✭✭✭Tefral

I've no issue with sharing them via email if someone wants to PM me. I am going to honour the persons wish though and not post the info online.

I haven't had the chance to go through bricklink yet. Was thinking i might put it together Sunday and see how much it comes out at.

    There is is 3073 pieces

3000 pieces for the tower??? The Sat V is only 1700. How is that even possible?

No wonder it didn't make the final cut. That's a massive amount of pieces compared to the Saturn.

You should see the size of them, loads of them only have one Lego nobble at the top.

It'd be interesting to get the designer files for it and see if some part substitution could take that number down.

Very very dissapointed with this set, so fragile and impossible to put the USA panels on the sides.

You have 2 main rocket pieces being held together by a 2x2 piece ??? wtf .

I have built large lego sets before and they have always been solid and cleverly designed - this I don't know how designed it , but from the booklet maybe it was some kids ??? hmmmm.

Anyway I hope this is not a sign of things to come, perhaps they have moved factories to China .

    Terrible terrible set.

    So dissapointed.

Well this one is a bit unusual for me, for logistical reasons (between house moves) I had it sent to the parents in law (we go there once a month) and I don't get much time to build it - so maybe Im rushing a bit each time.
Had some minutes last night and got the panels on , so feels a lot more solid now ....

So will start bag 4 next month :)

But I should be enjoying it more ...

Is so you can separate the stages - insert the lander etc - its very secure with both a large socket and clips to hold it - I thought it was very clever.
this I don't know how designed it

It was originally a community project I think - yes two guys - but was taken on and finished by the main lego designers - took years apparently if I remember what i read correctly - I thought the booklet explained it very well and was an nice addition to the set to see the background to the design.
Anyway I hope this is not a sign of things to come, perhaps they have moved factories to China .

No idea what this means - set was designed in Europe - if you are having quality problems with the bricks you should contact them.
    Terrible terrible set.So dissapointed.

Probably the best lego set I have at the moment - from a distance you probably would even recognise it was even lego its build is so unusual and solid.

Got this a few weeks back - still in box - hoping to build it over Easter and might even let the kids help out :D

Instructions for the launch tower are here http://thebrickblogger.com/2018/02/lego-apollo-saturn-v-launch-tower-instructions/
Please note that this is a massive model, and although a parts list and building instructions are provided freely, you will need to shop for the necessary parts yourself. You best option to get the parts you don’t already have is BrickLink, the largest online LEGO marketplace. LEGO fans who already built the model share that it includes some rare and discontinued parts, which will make the model very expensive (if you don’t already own the pieces). You may want to play around with the LEGO Digital Designer file of the model to see if you can swap out some of the hard-to-find parts with cheaper alternatives.
