Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. What time of the year is that for?

Arrival Mon-Thu in May or June 2021, fully “Covid Guaranteed” whatever that entails.

If anyone is interested dm me an email address and I will forward the email. I can vouch for the company Golfbreaks.ie, have used them before and they are professionals.

    Oh wow

Just got an email for 2 nights accom in Lahinch and a round each on the Old and the Castle courses

€329, after refusing to budge off €250 rack rate last year. I will definitely avail.

I've seen that as well. Seeing as that hotel charges about €90 per twin room per night, I'd say that golf deal is saving you €40 in total.

It'll take something better than that for me to be honest. But it's their prerogative what they charge.

You’re actually right, I didn’t realise how cheap the Castle course is (30-40). I seen it was old course rack rate + 80 for 2 nights accom and castle and thought bargain.

I assume Castle course is bang average so? I had it in my head as 80 green fee for some reason.

Got 2 rounds in enniscrone and 1 in strandhill €135 total end of June tought it was a good deal although never played either

The castle is well maintained but completely uninteresting. Flat, largely featureless and really just up and down a big field. There’s one or two nice-ish holes but it’s not in the same as cashen or one of the northwest “B” courses

How did you get this deal. Is it onlin or did you do it through the clubs individually?

That is available much cheaper through opens

Sometimes a premium is actually worth paying for convenience. Especially when it’s a small premium

But it's a lovely complimentary course to it's tough next door neighbour and some lovely par 3's.

Seen that golf digest are running a competition in Baltry in mid April. I think it's a bit speculative organising something for that date but you don't see too many open competitions there and doubt you would get a green fee for less than 75eur entry. There are a few spots available.

That was due to be originally played back in October but was changed to April and more than likely will be changed again..

I don’t think you’d quite call it lovely. It’s well maintained, and there are a couple of reasonable holes but most frustratingly it’s of a different style to the main course. Flat, boring, uneventful. It’s like saying lackabane is complimentary to Killeen in Killarney, it’s complimentary in that there’s somewhere to get a game in for the locals or juniors if the main course is full booked.

bit harsh on lackabane. it was a very good test of all aspects of your game.

Perhaps nice flipside of the main course so, the day I played both courses I had 27pts in the main course and 41 on the Caste, my first sub 80 round (par 69).
Think that compares the two nicely, tough morning, relaxing afternoon, both highly enjoyable

I know a lot of lads who use it as the hungover course. It fits that bill for that quite nicely too. I wouldn’t necessarily be going to bed early and cleaning your clubs the night before playing the castle course.

I would be off the same thinking as you but I haven't played Rosses yet. the flattest links that i would have played is either Connemara or Strandhill, but I would be choosing Carne or Enniscrone over either of them. Old head is pretty flat but i wouldn't class that as a links. Hopefully knock a few of the "flat" links off the list this year. They will need to be pretty special to change my mind.

Are you a member of Carne? Its rare enough to find someone as familiar with the place.

No I'm not a member, live 40ish minutes away so pay it 3-5 times a year for the last 15 years or so. Not so familiar with the new 9 though as have only played them twice.

I'm a member I was wondering. Life member. I played the new 9 once only but that was a few years back. Tis some course I must say, whatever 18 hole rota you take.

Does anybody know any good companies that are doing 'staycation' packages this summer? My family want to try some golf courses around the country. The packages don't have to contain accommodation as well.

Fairways and Fundays are doing a lot of packages to courses/areas around the country.

Last year SWING did something similar but I haven't seen anything specific so far this year - they do have golf only packages on their website under 'Special Offers'

A summary of all of the changes made in Rosses Point over the last 4 years or so. The 15th fairway change is ongoing so doesn't appear correctly in the video clip:

We're open for bookings for whenever we get started again. Don't be shy!!!

I'm not sure re: Open Competitions. Open Week went ahead last year: it's always on from Aug Bank Holiday weekend to following Sunday (9 days)
Keep an eye on @CountySligoGC and https://www.brsgolf.com/countysligo/opens_home.php

If I think of it, I'll post details here as and when they come up. Might be something around June Bank Holiday.

trip to Clare booked for June,

Do Lahinch or Doonbeg have any current discounted green fees for golf ireland members?
or even better, any members on here willing to take a 7 handicap with an awful duck hook out for a morning?

  • Registered Users Posts: 400 ✭✭IAmTitleist

Portstewart are doing a GUI rate of £90 on Monday/Thursday/Friday after 4pm.

I've booked a 4 ball for a Monday and the pro came back to me and said he could book us in for 3pm so maybe they're more flexible on times than advertised.

On their website at the link below they have a form to fill out to enquire about the GUI rate. When I did this is the rate I was emailed back. I rang up yesterday and booked for the start of next month!

Have emailed them for a price just for the Old course, will report back.

Have contacted Rosses point and the GI rate is 75 from Sunday-Friday.

Rosses point told me 130 and lahinch was 150, basically castle course is free.

Just got the nod for Waterville late July on a Friday. Anyone know if Tralee or Ballybunion will be doing GUI fees? Gonna head down on the Thursday and stay and play somewhere else before hitting Waterville.

Or dare I ask would I get out in Hogs Head on the Thursday?

I would much prefer to go play somewhere like Dooks over Hogs Head, i don't see the attraction to the place.

A group of us are heading west in July and got the following GUI green fees:
    Enniscrone - 55
    Carne (27 holes) - 75
    Rosses Point - 70

Enniscrone have upped their price from 40 last year. Trying to get closer to Co Sligo prices/appeal etc maybe.

Carne, fantastic value for the 27 holes. Incredible golf course.

Carne is a great course but respectfully a long trek for almost everyone, I've played it for green fees a few times but never more than €40, they seem to have well upped their prices, it's still quite rough in parts, mainly the greens

A lot of courses have upped prices a wee bit...
Seems to be v few Senior Opens aw well, where Green Fees were lower

Got an email yesterday from Golfbreaks.ie with a deal for June. €379 for a round at Fota and the Old Head with 2 nights accomodation at the Kingsley Hotel. Seems ridiculously good value considering the usual green fee cost of the Old Head alone. I'd assume it may be limited to Monday to Friday, will send an enquiry to clarify. Anybody have any experience with using Golfbreaks before? Nearly seems too good to be true.

The Old head are charging €130 a round for May and June before going back to the usual fee from July on so I'd say the deal is legit alright.

I think your prices are the quoted ones. Sunday should be the cheaper rate as it's normally relatively quiet. Course is in top shape at the moment.

As for someone complaining about an increase to €55 for Enniscrone, come one lads! That's still great value compared to golf further south. If you're willing to travel that far, €15 surely isn't going to put you off.

My guess is that once things settle down in the next couple of weeks, more domestic bookings will be made and prices will go up based on demand.
