Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was in Dublin this morning and would have brought it home if it was available.

Reminds me of the old 4x4 Renault Scenic which I was a fan of.

Any raffle above a certain value needs to be approved and licensed.

The vast majority of car raffles are over that value.

Maintenance issues of diesel cars?
Sure, some are more reliable and cheaper to run than others, but issues are vehicle and not fuel specific.

I've spent more on my petrol bangernomic in the past 6 months, than I did on my previous 2 diesel bangernomics cars in the 2 years prior to it - and I had a full clutch & flywheel combo fitted to one of the diesels in my ownership. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

I've had 6 diesels in a row now, 5 Passats and the A4, and they have had little spent on them outside of regular oil change and fuel/air/oil filters etc, but having said that, they are all diesels of a certain "era".

As we get into EGR and DPF diesels, I feel this is where the money starts creeping in especially if they aren't been driven for purpose.

According to wiki they use the rover k-series engine. Looks to be the same one used in the MG ZR with HG issues.

    I could be wrong though.

But yea that 1.4 engine with a bit over 100bhp was above all the other 1.4's at the time power wise.

All cars are bad for the environment unless it's one of the gravity powered ones made of recycled wood with 4 ball bearings for wheels.

We were looking for a 11 to 131 csr with approx 100,000 km or less. Only found 2 cars that didn't have odometer discrepancy, most of the cars were red flagged for this., one even had wrong engine id. Most of them also vastly understated the no. of previous owners. Buyer beware never truer !

Back in 07/08 they told us diesel was going to save the planet and half the population rushed out and scrapped perfectly good petrol cars, spending tens of thousands of euro just to get cheap annual motor tax.
Now the feckers are at it again with the whole electric car thing.
It’s a con designed to keep you purchasing new cars.
I keep my carbon footprint as low as I can but I won’t be rushing out to buy an electric car anytime soon.
Best thing you can do for the environment (from a car point of view anyway) is drive your old car into the ground.
This thread is based around probably the most environmentally friendly way of motoring.

I think the NCT and tax discs might be fake too. Something doesn’t add up if it was taxed for the year last August, but there’s 9 owners. That doesn’t happen.

NCT site talking about rearranging a booking when you put the reg in.
Carsireland doesn’t give an expiry on the tax (not 100% reliable but still)

You’d definitely want eyes wide open but I wouldn’t take the day/night thing as being a huge issue.
I’ve often used pics taken MONTHS apart. If I had pics on my phone already, I wouldn’t bother taking more.

That's because the 1.8t Saab 9-3 is actually a 2 litre engine with a turbo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

    Still flying. Love the Audi.
Had threatened to move it on and try a newer one, but can't bring myself to get rid of it even though it's 2004.

Every time I look at other Avants on Donedeal, there is just nothing like it, so I'll keep driving it for now.
Passenger door window regulator went recently and have a new one to pop into it, but weather is just horrendous, so I'll attack it once it dries up a bit

    .

That Lexus was forsale up near Roscommon town 3 or 4 months ago by a trader. For around the 2000 to 1500 mark.

No mention of misfiring then but it took an age to sell and just seemed a bit dodgey. I was going to look at it myself but didn't bother in the end.

My guess would be that the original owner ran it low on oil and the chain has stretched. I definitely wouldn't believe the just needs a coilpack line.

We have had a few now
Started off with the 1.8t for herself and then I bought the 1.8 to try it and she moved to a diesel 150bhp.

It's ok to be fair, not fantastic power, but I knew that buying it anyway. Just wanted to try a Saab myself and picked it up for reasonable money. It will do around 38mpg all day long with motorway driving which I was very impressed with, especially coming from diesel cars for the last 7 or 8 years.

It's 120bhp, compared to around 145bhp for the 1.8t, but I always found the 1.8t underpowered for a turbo car anyway. The fact you can easily get the turbo remapped to up around 200bhp, shows how much Saab de-tuned them initially.

It will never set the world alight with performance, but for a change to a petrol yoke for the summer months and to have something a bit different but with leather, aircon, bluetooth kit etc, it just kinda ticked all the boxes for me :)
