Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Excessive speed doesn't mean exceeding the speed limit nor does it mean 'abnormal', it means travelling too fast for the road conditions. Travelling at 60km/h on a 120km/h motorway during a snowstorm can be excessive speed, or travelling around a bend at 95km/h on a 100km/h N Road.

You claimed "speeding" which is exceeding the speed limit.

Stop being dishonest and maybe learn something for once, rather than insisting on arguing until the other person ends up in a coma from banging their head against your ego.

AJR and his ilk have little interest in actual road safety, only in attacking motorists due to the - rather gargantuan - chip on their shoulders. And if twisting facts and telling lies helps, so be it.....

I have never seen a cyclist between palmerstown and liffey valley on the n4 and theyre not allowed on the motorway... theres a xycle path and bridge over the kings hospital side anyway....
You'll often see cyclists travel across the M50 via the N4 rather than travel through Palmerstown. They are as legally entitled to do this as any driver is.
    this isnt about peddle peddlers
No it's about the gardai trying to ensure people drive within the speed limit, an element of which is there to protect vulnerable road users including "peddle peddlers" ().

just had a look at the map, its really a joke isn't it. There are so many areas where the cameras are placed that are clearly there for revenue generation.

That's your definition of speeding, not mine.

I’ll try to educate you a little you seem a little confused. Just say you’re cruising at 78 kmhr, depending on road gradients etc it’s easy for a car to say go up to 82kmhr without noticing it. Of course you can keep staring at the speedo and keep your eyes off the road ;-)

Here's a little 'education' for yourself. The car doesn't do anything. The driver controls the car. If the driver isn't able to control the car, they shouldn't be driving. Stop blaming the car for bad driving.
AJR and his ilk have little interest in actual road safety, only in attacking motorists due to the - rather gargantuan - chip on their shoulders. And if twisting facts and telling lies helps, so be it.....

Fair enough so. Let's pretend to be interested in road safety while ignoring the deplorable standards of driving and the clear evidence showing the causes of road deaths and injuries in Ireland.

What do the Garda speed vans look like out of curiosity? Markings, colour etc?

Usually white vans without any markings (maybe the logo on the front doors or rear doors). They can have the cameras on the rear or side windows.

I saw a van just after exit 12 on the M50 heading towards exit 13 at Ballinteer 2 afternoons back. It was in behind the barrier as you come around the long left bend.

Most seem to be mid/high roof Transits with the black spinning Air vents on the roof...and tinted rear Door glass :).
In fairness, not a whole lot of them about (with all the GoSafe Guys out there).

Do the lads who drive these speed vans just sit in the back then watching Netflix/porn or whatever whilst pulling for speeding?

These ****ers who operate the gosafe vans are on like 12 euro an hour?

    Is it worth the hassle?

Some of the positioning makes no sense to me. For example, just checked the map for the N81 from Hollywood to Baltinglass. No vans. Seriously. That road is a death trap. But over the mountains in Glendalough there’s a zone. Who drives there? What’s the point of putting speed vans on motorways? They’d be better off putting ‘Drive on left, overtake on right’ signs on the gantries.

If you mean the road between Glendalough and the Wicklow Gap, plenty of people do, it's a prime tourist route, and plenty of bikers too. During summer weekends it turns into the Irish version of the Isle of Man TT races.

Just home after about 2000kms since early Thursday morning. From Galway through 16 counties. Only came across 1 speed van on the N2 coming in to Monaghan. Plenty flashing lights warnings beforehand

No vans, but saw 2 squad cars during my travels over the weekend.

The first hidden in behind a hidden layby just before the Cork exit on the M7. Came chasing after a Passat that was behind me acting the asshat in among the traffic so no sympathy there to be honest.

The second was up on a motorway on-ramp in North Cork.

Came across one on N2 north of Slane just after where the overtaking lane ends. Lovely spot for a bit of revenue generation as a lot of cars are trying to overtake trucks etc having been stuck behind them crawling up Slane hill. Shooting fish in a barrel!

Anyone have any info on the new speed guns being rolled out ? Just seen a video on the Garda twitter about them but not too much information, Would they still stop you if you are speeding etc.

Anyone figure out how to put these onto google maps so that if you are travelling and have google maps , you will get a notification on your phone that you are passing through a speed camera area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,826 ✭✭✭masterboy123

I searched for it. It's not possible, atleast on Google Maps for android.

I think they can be imported into the sat nav in the car as POI's
