Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

'Fall of civilizations' - really nice one. Kind of lofty and poetic in tone, broad in scope (Vikings in Greenland, Mayans, Roman Britain), each episode outlines the reasons for collapse of a particular society. He has a lot of quotes from the sources by different voice actors, so there is more of a sense of immediacy than, say, 'History of Rome'. He goes a fair bit into detailing archaeological techniques - it's a good one.

This is a top recommendation. Excellent podcast.

Not a typical recomemdation per se, but 'stuff you should know' have had Bill Gates on talking about vaccines - I know that they are one of the biggest ones, but still, pretty impressive guest for a pure podcast to get.

    Listening to “The Bomb”
A BBC podcast about the atmoic bomb. Interesting and well produced

A few recommendations that I don't recall seeing here since I've been following:

The missing cryptoqueen - Dr Ruja Ignatova persuaded millions to join her financial revolution. Then she disappeared. Why? Jamie Bartlett presents a story of greed, deceit and herd madness. Probably my favourite podcast this one, there are still intermittent episodes as it is ongoing.

Conflicted - An ex-Al Qaeda jihadi turned MI6 spy and a former monk turned filmmaker, have been embedded at the heart of conflicts in the Middle East. Together Aimen Dean and Thomas Small unpack the realities of war, fundamentalism and their global implications through first-hand experience.

You're dead to me - a history podcast for people who don't like history... and those who do. Greg Jenner brings together the best names in comedy and history to learn and laugh about the past.

Intrigue - There are 3 separate series. The most recent: Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Helena Merriman tells the true story of a man who dug a tunnel into the East, right under the feet of border guards. The series on the murder of a British businessman in China was my favourite.

Also enjoyed the real dictators, 13 minutes to the moon and Fall of civilizations (only 2 episodes in) which have been posted here already.

Running low on (non-sport) podcast series at the moment so if anyone has any recommendations to tie in with the above it would be appreciated.

    The bomb

About the origins of the bomb that landed on hiroshima in 1945. Nice bit of history to it.

Only 3 episodes in. So will be weekly episodes.

    The Harrowing: https://play.acast.com/s/the-harrowing

I wouldn't normally be a fan of radio drama, but this was recommended to me. I really enjoyed it. There's a cheap horror movie plot in it.

A remote Scottish Island. A huge storm. Animals dying. Strange premonitions.

    Real Dictators.

The first two episodes have been about Kim Jong Il, and were captivating listening. Narrated by Paul McGann, and with very high production values.

    Straight into my subscriptions.

Great recommendation, cheers. Only started to listen recently, but definitely a good addition. I replaced Casefile in my subscriptions with it

A scam for the ages in terms of the money involved! Ruja Ignatova called herself the Cryptoqueen. She told people she had invented a cryptocurrency to rival Bitcoin, and persuaded them to invest billions. Then, two years ago, she disappeared. Jamie Bartlett spent months investigating how she did it for the Missing Cryptoqueen podcast, and trying to figure out where she's hiding.

Listened to the first episode of the new true crime podcast on RTE Doc on One called The Nobody Zone. Second episode of 6 out tomorrow. It's really excellent. Brilliant script and narration by Tim Hinman and a truly compelling story about a London based Irish serial killer who got away with it for a very long time.

Have been some great recommendations on this thread guys, thanks. the above two I enjoyed, plus "Believed", which must have been recommended on the 'recently listened' thread

have recently started this one and enjoying:

I see "locked up abroad" is back with 8 episodes so far. Have listened to one of the new ones "buried alive" fairly good and easy listening

Once upon a time in the valley is well worth catching.

Exploring how one (too) young girl almost took down the then very lucrative porn business back in the 80s.

Tracks down many of the main players in the business. This is excellent documentary type podcasting.

    The Age of Napoleon.

Really great and in-depth look at the life and times of Napoleon. Very thorough, gets into the wider societal picture across the world of that time as well. Great stuff. How I like my history podcasts: very dry and with a broad scope.

Totally compelling obsessive listening. I am still chilled to the bone by what I heard. And its all (allegedly) true.

    Dr Death
(podcasts - 8 or 10 in the series.
On Apple. OMG YOU WILL NOT SLEEP OR EAT UNTIL YOU HAVE HEARD THEM ALL). Utterly compelling - the audio effect of watching a train come barreling down at you and being so horrified you cannot step off the track.

    Dr Death podcast (wonderly)

Not many really. It was a lucky find, it's hard to find narrative history that's done exactly like that.

I'm a fan of The History of The Cold War. Similarish, in that it's just the facts without making it about the host's personality.

Revolutions is quite good, but it can become boring depending on what he is talking about.

I am listening to a ten part podcast at the minute by a woman who grew up in witness protection because her father was a Hell's Angel turned informant. It's called Relative Unknown. It's really interesting.

thought that the first series started off well but then the structure got completely muddled after 4 or 5 episodes and went nowhere.

    didn't finish it.

yes came across this as an ad in some other podcast.

it's pretty good and doesn't get boring.

the Americans balls-ed up a number of times in stopping these guys and also totally mis-understood the whole situation really going all the way back to the Soviet-Afghan war and even sowing the seeds with the initial oil deal in the 1940's with the Saudis.

Dealing with dog rape and retribution, best sex dolls for the cuckolded husband (buy one for sex and another for beating up), bingo! female ejaculate!- chocolatey brown and sweet to the taste.
