Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes - you’ll need to pair the phone and the watch using Bluetooth. Once you’ve done it once it should be grand and transfer automatically.

Sorry probably didn’t explain to well, so I don’t need Bluetooth on constantly for runs to transfer? One step at a time, Strava is next!!!!

If you use the chest hrm then you will need the bluetooth left on so that they (strap and watch) can talk. I leave my bluetooth "on" on the watch and can then forget about it. Connect can then detect your watch, once it is on, and automatically read you latest strava beauty. Do share :D

You could turn it off and on but I leave Bluetooth on all the time and then I see text messages and various other notifications etc on my watch.

Only if you have paired a BT HRM, Garmin HRM uses ANT+

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help with my Garmin 235. A few days ago it stopped pairing with my phone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the garmin app on my phone but no joy.
My phone is recognising my watch but not vice versa, when I try to pair it with other devices the screen keeps spinning before a "try again" message comes up.

    Any ideas?

    Any ideas?

Usually when it starts acting up I plug it into the PC, run Garmin connect and sync it and that sorts it out.

I noticed after doing a recent interval session that was in the workouts of my garmin watch, the app is (at last!) recognising the name of the workout. I hope this is here to stay as it was an obvious improvement for them to make.

Is that android or apple app out of interest? My apple app doesn’t seem to have recognize the workout I did on Monday and is completely up to date etc.

Android. Maybe future workouts will be added.
I know there was a firmware update a couple of weeks back for the 230 and I have another one on it now waiting to be downloaded.

I will do more workouts later this week to just test it out.

I recently bought a forerunner 910xt 2nd hand. I realise this is an older model but wondering would someone have any advice. The device has been running great overall, however I noticed today that it was a little foggy on the screen, I'd been for a swim yesterday. When I tried to turn it on there was no response. I connected it in to a power supply and the device says "Complete 100%". However when I try to turn it on when not connected there is no response. Anyone seen this before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

Water has got into it I am afraid, maybe the reason it was passed on.

Put it close to a heater for a couple of days and it may sort it.

Picked up the Fenix 5x Plus sapphire for £573 on gooutdoors.co.uk probably more than what I need but because the face is the same size (51mm) as the fenix 3 I had before, I went for it. I also would have settle for the 5s plus but I found it very hard find the black bezel version in it on a decent deal.

Anyway, looking forward to getting it. Now to AliExpress to get some 3rd party quickfit straps!!

Anyone got a link for decent straps that they got from a 3rd party seller??

    Here's the link: https://m.gooutdoors.co.uk/garmin-fenix-5x-plus-sapphire-multisport-watch-p484969

Maybe someone is looking for a deal on this watch, I think it's a great deal for this watch in the sapphire version.

Does anyone else have this? How do you get rid of it?

Why Am I Seeing a Connect Sync Service Notification on My Android Phone?
    https://support.garmin.com/en-IE/?faq=jrKblLfaYB1fZZkraDpAs6

I have SMS/Contacts, etc, off, but I don't have these.

    Select Notifications
    Uncheck Device Connectivity

    No, LGV20.

Ok. I did have this problem too and it took me a bit of messing about to get rid of it. Like with you my app doesn't have the Notifications setting within the App Permissions within the Connect app, I think that may be outdated.

In your phone settings (not the app settings) go to Apps, find and select Connect and within the App Info screen you should see a Notifications row. Tap that and you should get to Notification Management. You'll see Device Connectivity in there, disable it and that should resolve your problem.

I've had the 235 for a little over 2 years now and the battery life has been generally really good on it. Last Summer i went away for 8 nights and it lasted until the last day and that included a handful of runs with GPS. There has been some slight but noticeable reduction in the battery life over the 2 years but it hasn't been significant until now, in the last week it's dropping charge to the point where i now have to charge it every day. It's losing 30-40% overnight while i sleep. I have bluetooth turned off all the time now to try to save charge. It's getting frustrating now. I've synced and there's no updates available. Anyone else experience this?

Any ideas if garmin pay will be supported by the big banks here? I think KBC are the only bank thus far.

It woould be very handy out on long runs or cycles.

Are the bank cards ok in a back pocket with rain and sweat?

My garmin (forerunner 230) has suddenly stopped syncing workouts, as in I can't send them to the watch from either the web version of Garmin connect or the app. Has anyone else had this happen?

Happened me. I reset the watch to factory settings. Re-setup the whole thing online with Garmin Connect and now it's all good again. Pain though.

Nothing I've seen, but get yourself a Revolut debit card as a work around.

Revolut uses Visa Debit in the UK and Ireland, which is not supported by Garmin Pay. Only Revolut Mastercard is supported.

I use KBC Mastercard regularly and it is very handy, especially when I've left my phone in the car at the petrol station.

I have a revolut MC and can confirm that it does not support Garmin pay. I do have KBC and it works a treat. The only think I hate is having to put in the passcode everytime you use it!!

    That rules Revolut out so.
Passcode is handy I suppose if you lose your watch, but probably should have a user config option with a disclaimer.

I wish there was the feature that Apple watch uses that if you take your watch off you need to put in a passcode to use the watch negating the need to have to have one on the Garmin pay bit. It's a pity but when you do put in the passcode it lasts about 1min approx before you have to put it in again, so you could be standing in the queue for shopping and time it that when you put in the code you will just have to put watch against machine.

The only time I hate it is if I've forgotten to do the above and I'm at the self-service in SuperValu and it's busy and I have to put in the code, everyone is looking at.you thinking 'look at this di**khead' 😂😂😂

If you can fit your car key in your shorts you can fit a bank card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭RunDMC

You should only need to enter the passcode once every 24 hours. Other than that, it should only ask for a passcode if it has lost the optical heart rate. The reasoning is that if the watch is removed from your arm, it requires a passcode to use Garmin Pay. Maybe you need to wear it a little tighter?

The information about Revolut MC in this thread is incorrect. I have my Revolut MasterCard loaded into Garmin Pay on my Forerunner 645M and it works a treat.

I can't explain that. I'm using a Revolut MC that I've had since August 2017. Maybe take it up with Garmin?

I assume you're using Garmin Connect on your phone to add the card.

I also only need to enter the code once every 24 hours (or after taking off the watch), so maybe there's something wrong with your watch.

Out of interest, are you in the UK? Seems like it works in the UK on MC I've tried to add both MC and Visa and can't. Anyone else using revolut with Garmin pay

In the Garmin Connect app, are you entering the CC number manually or scanning it? If the latter, make sure it captured the number correctly then enter the expiry and the CVV number. Also, I’m not sure it matters, but I entered my address info even though it was marked ‘optional’.

What happens when you submit all that? Does it want to confirm by sending you a text? At what point does it not work?

Ok, so was on to a live agent on revolut yesterday and he informed me that a number of irish customers with revolut MC have the ability to add there cards to Garmin pay which allows them to test it, he informed me that my card was not included :-( . So although you can add it you need to be lucky enough to be included. I'm not really happy with that answer, if you go to the Garmin pay and click on Irepand it mentions Mastercard.

Anyway let's hope they start rolling it out across all revolut users.

    Tried both ways.

Also it just says that card issuers in your country blah blah blah!!

    Hi All

After a long hiatus, I'm back pounding the streets and really enjoying my running. Currently wearing a Apple Watch but would prefer better accuracy around distances, more analysis etc. together with the option of listening to music/podcasts direct from the watch.

Have been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music and the 645 Music as alternatives, and my head is melted at this point!

I can source them for €307 (245M) and €342 (645M) online, so price points are pretty aligned.

Has any one used one or other (or both!)?

    All thoughts and recommendations appreciated!

I own a 645M. The only things you'd be giving up that the 645M has that the 245M doesn't are the barometric altimeter and Garmin Pay. By getting the 245M you'd be gaining a lower-energy GPS chipset (which gives longer battery life when running the GPS), a couple of additional First Beat metrics, and, I think, an accelerometer on the watch itself.

I guess a lot depends on what your priorities are. How important is a barometric altimeter to you? Are you likely to use/need Garmin Pay? I use it but I wouldn't say I need it. Only once in the last few months have I used my watch to pay for something when I was in my running gear and therefore had no other means to pay. Most of the time, it's just as easy to use a bank card.

And if longer battery life while active matters to you, the 245M is probably a better choice.

I've left out entirely the aesthetics of the two watches. I think the 645M looks nicer, but tastes vary.

Well, a bit earlier on this thread (like immediately above this post), we were discussing Revolut and whether or not it works on the watch. Turns out that it's on some kind of beta trial by Revolut and some people (me, for example) got it without a problem and others can't.

So I have it with my Revolut MC. I also just switched banks to KBC (not because of Garmin Pay) so I have that card in there as well.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Some replies in CAPS below. All things being equal, I'm leaning towards the 645M... Cheers :)

HYPOTHETICALLY; I'VE HAD APPLE PAY ON PHONE AND WATCH FOR AGES AND RARELY BOTHERED... I use it but I wouldn't say I need it. Only once in the last few months have I used my watch to pay for something when I was in my running gear and therefore had no other means to pay. I've left out entirely the aesthetics of the two watches. I think the 645M looks nicer, but tastes vary. TOOK A SPIN TO 53 DEGREES NORTH TO VALIDATE THIS EVENING AND I AGREE; IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A "REAL" WATCH AND LESS PLASTICY

I had awful trouble with this before I upgraded. It would involved a lot of unpairing each device and re-starting both the watch and phone numerous times. I contacted Garmin support but they were no use. If the workout would start to transfer it would take forever.

Probably not any use at all but they advised me to head to the troubleshooting section of their site support.garmin.com. Garmin connect app - Bluetooth Troubleshooting. They wanted to know what phone model I was using. I had a fitbit at the time and that had no trouble syncing.
