Latest test in the evening, a little bit slower, and I think this is the last day of testing.
I will hit the limit of 60GB tomorrow, so I will see what happens.
Hopefully I can stay on the payg sim, or switch to the contract one, and this router will service as a wifi point.

Looking on the comreg siteviewer it does not have the local mast as LTE enabled although not sure how accurate the site is, maybe my setup is the limiting factor?

Killybegs got a very nice speed upgrade on the Three network recently. Usually when I'm waiting in queue at the chemist, I run a speed test. The left result is about a month ago and it was typical to get around the mid 20s. So it was quite a surprise to see the needle go past 150 today, especially close to 6pm (left time is before DST). :cool:



I tried running a few more tests outside afterwarts, but didn't get anything higher. TestMy linear gave me 150Mbps (below) with its Frankfurt server and Netflix's Fast App gave me 130Mbps.

Out in the sticks of North West Connemara. There is a mast about 1km or so away.

Been a while since I did a speed test. Vodafone seems to have upgraded one of the masts to 4G close to me which my router automatically connects to. Only getting 2 bars but speeds are much better.




Compared to one of my worst results ever....

I'd like to congratulate 3 on successfully bringing me back to download speeds of 30 years ago. It's been like this almost every evening for the last few days.

Wireless technology wifi or 4g/3g can be prone to dropped packets or latency

a good latency check that I used to use on 3g (years before 4g for example) to keep the connection alive and to check ping (even today) can be done via a cmd prompt with the following commands:

ping google.ie

ping google.ie -t

The first one sends 4 packets of 32 kilobytes of test data
The second one runs in the same way except it keeps sending beyond 4 (indefinite I think). You can use any website to type in by the way - but some sites block this kind of packets by default so you can test which sites to use for this command.

Amen to that Brother Am in the exact same boat. Nothing short of increased capacity and backhaul maybe? Cells are limited to certain bandwidth values, and even on 4g - it is shared between users but not evenly. The closer you are the better chances you may have. But if you have the majority of users close to you or the cell then even close proximity wont work.

Cell shrinkage isnt as bad on 4g but still those figures of yours are terrible - worse than 3g. I tend to switch over to 3g during peak hours in the off chance that there are less users on 3g than 4g - therefore less conjestion

Yeah, I've tried switching and it's just as bad. It's just heavily congested from 5-11 or so and barely usable. Crazy it's THAT bad though.

I moved from a 50Gb Eir package, which was fine, even at peak times, to 3 unlimited with the new 4G+ router and it's just useless really. great data limit but wouldn't even able to get close to it as it's so bad.

I'm considering using both routers now. An Eir 50Gb package for normal usage, then just a PAYG sim in the three router for bigger downloads if needed. Seems like the only option really. I'm about 500m away from the end of the exchange which ads to the comedy show

I could take my chances with Eir fixed line with speeds from 2-7Mb but even that's pretty grim. What a time to be alive!
