Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know if the road works completed recently on the lower glanmire were done by City Council staff or contractors? Because they've left the road in ****e, and it'll be a lot worse in 6 months, why do city engineers accept this...?

I emailed the City Council about this a few weeks ago. Apparently the contractors are going back on site soon to finish the job around Silversprings. The City Council are awaiting funding from central government to resurface the Lower Glanmire Road sometime this year.

This a great thread and I hope the OP is sending it to the City Council and various elected reps.

now this spot again.. bottom of Strawberry hill.. constantly being repaired, constantly falling apart.. you can see cars swerving into the opposite lane (when there's no cars there) because it is just not possible to drive over this without the whole car jumping up and down!

Strawberry hill with Convent avenue are also one of the busiest roads in Cork. Blarney street is too narrow and it's more convenient to take this route.

.. slowly but surely falling apart too..

Great thread, must take a few pics myself and pop them up if I get a chance. The roads on the northside are absolutely shocking - the North Ring Road, one of the busiest roads on the northside, is a disaster.

Perfect anti-cyclist trap, there was one of them on college road in Galway for years when I was in college despite being reported on fixmystreet.

Tramore Road is in shocking condition too, especially as you pass by Kellihers electrical towards the roundabout. I keep meaning to take pictures.

when they resurfaced part of the Harbour view road, they left this awfuly looking thing there... what is the purpose of this? 1980's called, they want their traffic island back. If this would be Germany or Japan they would definitely remove it because it just serves no purpose. It's in the way obviously. I see people quite often driving over it when turning left.

    20180903-140155.jpg

this is what the roads should look like everywhere. Pefectly smooth surface. Right now it's almost like an offroad track everywhere you go.

    20180903-140141.jpg

Btw. there is (still) a slight dip in the road outside the credit union. This will be a problem in couple of years.. all those buses driving over it... 100% guaranteed in few years it will start breaking.. and they'll go back, fix it.. and the never ending circle will start again.

harbour view road. The last of the three pedestrian crossings further up the road. As soon as they will finish building those houses there this will have to be dealt with.

as you can see it's all sinking under the weight of the buses and lorries.

As bad as those roads are (and they are in no way acceptable) I can think of many places in Ireland that aspire to having roads in that condition!

city council's project of some sort.

    http://corkcitycentre.ie/

    interesting reading:

    "Cork City Centre Revitalisation

The City Centre is the ‘Healthy Heart’ of Cork, essential to the well being of the wider region and the country as a whole. It is also the city’s front window, playing the central role in its economic, social and cultural identity.

The City creates a network where economic activity prospers and communities work together to inspire and enable Cork to further itself. It is this combination and interaction between people and place that is the critical element to the success of urban life in our City."

I'm sorry but when I compare it to what I see in the city centre... Grand parade still in shambles. Is this the "Healthy heart" they are talking about? ... I am somewhat confused.
