Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Feels more aimed at those who haven’t yet bought into Switch than intended as an upgrade for existing owners.

Bright side is I don't have to think about spending money on the new model anymore.

It feels like the transition from the GBA:SP to the AGS101, which had a much better screen.
It's a technical step up from the original but ultimately the same device.
Either way, developers and consumers are howling for a genuinely new device to replace the Switch, I still imagine we'll see it next year.
This OLED device is just a stopgap, and I will buy one regardless

    364€ in smyths

Nintendo have confirmed that the joycons are the same. Missed opportunity.

That's a ridiculous price. €35 dearer for a 4 year old piece of tech. Consoles generally tend to drop in price over time. Not the Switch though.

Nintendo are still charging €70 for 4 year old games also!

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭sekiro

Then again why were we all expecting a "pro" model in the first place? Who started that rumour?

I think there is a significant portion of the gaming community that is obsessed with hype more than actual games and tech.

There are folk out there who will say things like "I bought a Switch for Metroid and F-Zero, where are they?"

Just the same as there are folk who started discussing "Switch Pro" near enough as soon as the Switch released in 2017.

File it under "Bloodborne for PC" and other things that people are more interested in "reacting" to than actually playing.

Hopefully their next system is backwards compatible. But considering the success the Switch has had for selling mainly old rope I don't think it will be. Can't see the new Zelda & Bayonetta 3 running well on this line of models, certainly not at 60fps. But I can see them kicking that Zelda game down the road to the new Nintendo console anyway. Did it for Wii & Switch so why not again.

Switch OLED reportedly costs only around $10 more to manufacture

GameStop have a trade in deal. Normal Switch + 2 games from a list + €64.99 for the OLED Switch. Linky. Maybe im wrong but seems an okay deal!

As a digital only player im tryna work out which 2 games on that list are cheapest to get right now 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,941 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

Old switch is €330, OLED is €365

So you're giving them two games worth €100-120 plus another €65.

You're giving them an extra €150

Seems like a rip-off to me

  • Registered Users Posts: 54 ✭✭kujaultima

Does anyone else know of any other trade in deals? Gamestops is a joke.

I have the first model switch and I missed the €30 trade in :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,407 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

That was a good deal. 30 quid for brand new machine, joycons, guarantee. I switched from grey joycons, one of my huge regrets in life 🙂, to the neon red/blue 😊.

Not switching to the oled model as I rarely play in handheld mode and much prefer the pro controller and big screen experience.

Going to wait for next gen Nintendo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,715 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

Not the best deal out there but some of the listed games can be picked up second hand for cheap so maybe if you had the very first gen switch it's worth it but I'm gonna pass

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

If I was to sell the Switch I have now, looking on adverts I would get between €200 - €250. 2 Games on that list, maybe another €60 - €80. It doesn't seem a great offer to me. Could be worth €330 + €65 🤯

Gamestop France have a similar but more expensive offer - https://www.micromania.fr/trade-in-nintendo-switch-oled.html

Trade in a console from that list. But, saying that, the current version of the Switch can be found for new for €250 in France.

Hi all, looking to pre order Switch OLED but it seems like I missed out on Smyths and GameStop pre order window.

Is it going to be as difficult to get as was PS5 last year?

I need it only for Christmas so still bit of time. Thanks for any advice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 602 ✭✭✭kave2

Preordered with GameStop for delivery on 22n of October.

    World's first Switch OLED unboxing.

The guy looks like a Japanese Elton John, Alan Carr or Austin Powers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,155 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Nice comparison shot of the current Switch versus the upcoming OLED model in action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,407 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Some good hardware designers and marketing in Nintendo. They have recovered incredibly since the WiiU.

How much would a little TV only, cute, home console version only of the switch cost to manufacture? 50 quid ? They could sell a ton more "Switches".

We Unbox the Switch OLED! Breakdown and Comparison to Original Switch!

Full unboxing, comparisons between the original Switch and the OLED, and some brief game footage running.

Edit: Have to keep saying it, this new board's site is 💩.

Any chance I'll be able to get one of these on the 8th?

Will Argos, Smyths etc have them up for click and collect morning of? GS site says they wont ship their batch ti the 22nd, so I assume I cant go in and preorder for launch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭laneykin

Just checking around there and Amazon UK have some up at the moment available for preorder. £310 and delivers to ireland so not bad value either.

I've never preordered from Amazon - Would it actually arrive on the 8th? Also wary of customs....

Edit. With Priority delivery it says it'll arrive the 14th. Customs deposit is included and bring the price to €380.

Got mine pre-ordered with Littlewoods, says it will arrive on the 15th of this month......We'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,407 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I remember Littlewoods giving me the run around for months and that was before Brexit. Smyths are the best for console hardware in Ireland. And I've no allegiances to them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68 ✭✭mmrs

Has anyone had an update from Smyths on a pre-ordered Switch OLED. Mine still says in progress. Pre-ordered on July 9th.

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

Got an e-mail at 7:23 this morning saying ready for dispatch, hopefully you have by now aswell!

Thanks Agent, nothing yet but I'm hopeful.

Smyths have them online for home delivery. Just ordered the white one and got the confirmation email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 409 ✭✭pmce4

collecting mine tomorrow from Gamestop I also booked the metroid limited edition so looking forward to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Mine was dispatched from Littlewoods too.

Just got a call from my sis. She wanted one for my nephew but got up this morning and everywhere was sold out. (She didn't preorder).

Anyone got any suggestions on where might have them? Game stop is showing in stock but I'm wary of that. I've ordered from them before, got an order confirmation and had the order cancelled by them on the way to the store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Tech_Head

    Where is she based?

I’d imagine Smyths may have some stock in stores.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Tech_Head

You should have an e-mail to pick it up as of this morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,322 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

Mayo. There weren't any on the website.

Weirdly though you're 100% right about smyths having it in stock in some areas. I started a job in Germany last month. And did you know smyths have stores in Dusseldorf and Cologne? I just ordered one from Smyths Germany. I'll have to ship it to her once I get it but at least shes certain to get one.

She ordered one from gamestop. I told her to keep that order just in case. Plus if she gets two she'll always be able to sell one on at cost price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Tech_Head

GameStop is showing stock online and in stores. Online for Neon has a shipping date at the end of the month.

There isn’t as much craziness on this launch and Switchs have been in stock near me for the last few months. Now closer to Christmas will be another story I’d say so I wouldn’t hang about either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68 ✭✭mmrs

Got an email last night that it's available to pick up this morning! Day off work too :)

My sis ordered one from Gamestop 3 hours ago. Got the confirmation email. And just got the mail from them telling her the order was cancelled.

I don't trust gamestop at all. I've known that to happen to loads of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 smaxx

Ordered from GameStop at 6.30 this morning, just got emailed to tell me they don’t have them ffs.

Anyone know anywhere I’d get one in south Dublin? Don’t particularly feel like going on a wild goose chase after work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

Looks like my switch isn’t out for delivery today even though I got the ready to dispatch e-mail yesterday morning. Usually Smyths and Dpd have pre-orders delivered on release day. I think they do Saturday deliveries so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 st_jimmy

Ordered from Gamestop on Sep 9th. No notification of dispatch yet but they have taken the money from my card yesterday.

I am pretty confident it won't reach me until sometime next week which is a pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭panevthe3rd

Ordered mine from Smyths yesterday around 10 or so and it came this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,801 ✭✭✭iamtony

I usually click and collect from Smyth's but the missus bought it for me and ordered for delivery but it hasn't shown up so far:-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Tech_Head

Amazon shows it coming into stock early next week if people are stuck

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

Dpd is showing as parcel delivery date booked with recipient but I didn’t book anything. They usually deliver here around 4pm so if it’s not here by 4:30 I’ll ring them in the morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 smegger

From Amazon uk? Any idea what kind of customs / additional costs importing into Ireland?

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

I went ahead and rang Dpd, they only received the parcel in the Cork depot this afternoon and they don’t do Saturday deliveries so they scheduled the delivery for Monday. I always thought Smyths used to release pre-ordered parcels two days early to make sure they arrived for release day but this time it was only a day early.
