    I wouldn't call it good value. Some might consider it a decent price for a decent phone but I do not.

    Similarly specced Xiaomi Mi 9 (6.3 AMOLED screen, 855 processor, 6Gb/128Gb memory with 48Mp camera) around €410 on amazon.

    New Mi 10 would be better again but I think it'll be a while before they filter this direction.

    the mi 9 quoted above is a decent phone but the camera quality is not as good as the pixel phones. google's proprietary software that is specially tuned for the particular camera hardware on their phones produces brilliant images. you can run the same google camera app on the mi 9 but you won't get the same results in terms of colour interpretation or dynamic range.

    Nothing too amazing about a lot of those photos, and some are filtered to death.

    That said, the 3a definitely is a great camera. Especially decent in poor light compared to most other phones.

    Regarding the Pixel 4, if it's a phone that you already wanted to buy despite the issues it has, then it's a decent price. I haven't paid €600 for a flagship in a good few years, with the prices creeping to ridiculous amounts recently.

    I didn't say that they were the best photos ever. They are from randomers on Flickr so give a fair idea of what real world use is like.

    The colours in particular from the pixel cameras are very attractive imo and the dynamic range is also.

    The Pixel 4a should come out in May and will be competitively priced with the 3a, I'd wait for that. Otherwise check out the Vodafone Pixel3a thread here

    Could well be a price increase as only one model this time unlike with 3a and 3a xl. Either way it won't be anywhere near 179 like you can get with Vodafone

    I'm very keen for a phone with an android phone with an E-Sim. Now I am on GOMO I want to be able to use the E-Sim slot for when I am roaming. Sadly the Pixel is the only choice and google seem determined to make a balls of them.

    My last 2 phones have been Samsung flagships, but I was hoping to try something else for a while.

    there are many many options that offer dual-sim which is currently far more useful in terms of country availability for the flagship roamer and offer much better choice (even if there is esim in a country it's only a subset of operators and often not for prepaid/tourist) for roaming outside the EU.

    Just tested, shows as €179.99 for me, when choosing to switch to Vodafone.

    You have to be switching to vodafone.. You can see the options in the other tread. Works out great. On 3.

    Someone earlier said their last two phones were Samsung Flagship phones.. the J5 is definitely a LAGship....

    Depends what you base performance on. It's competely usable for day-to-day usage, seems nice and smooth. Battery life is also decent.

    Can't comment on how it is with stuff like gaming.

    not everybody can have not just one, but their last TWO phones as Samsung flagships!

    Your J5 from 2015 is indeed a slow coach and the 3a would be a huge upgrade in every respect.

    It runs smoothly, gets the latest software for the next few years and the camera takes great photos.

    Yah, I haven't any interest in gaming, but I do find the J5 as slow as feck when I'm trying to switch between apps or even just getting it to unlock.

    It always seems to have something better to do than respond to me...:D

    I might jump in the car and want to turn on googlemaps to check the traffic and jayses but it takes about 4 minutes to get to a stage where I can enter a destination...
    And I just totally gave up on the fingerprint thing.. reee-diculous...
    Humm, so I'll have to see if I can squeeze the cash out and go talk nice to vodafone.. heh...

    you need to port your number or get another sim card (e.g. from EIR https://www.eir.ie/mobile/prepay/free-sim-cards/ ) to pretend to port your number to get the €100 off the €279 to bring it down to €179. you need to receive a text on this sim as part of the process.

    can you port to vodafone and then port out to another network like gomo or do you have to be a customer with vodafone for a minimum period of time?
