Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You'll get the same camera delivered to ROI for €60.40 from amazon.co.uk including a 16GB memory card.

I would also welcome opinions on this camera.

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. I have a Nextbase 312GW. It needed its firmware updated so yesterday I put the file onto an sd card and updated the cam that way. Only I forgot to format the sd card afterwards and powered the cam up. The Nextbase screen appeared but then went blank and the blue light came on. I haven't been able to get the unit to switch back on since. Have I bricked the cam or is there a way to get it to power back on again??

I run one of these. Pretty good, no complaints so far. Can sometimes be hard to see plates in certain lighting but good overall quality. Look up some youtube reviews for clips.

Newbie when it comes to dashcams. Bought my first one. Big fan of Anker products and this is what I got. https://www.anker.com/products/R21101F1?utm_campaign=DonanimHaber&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=DonanimHaber

So far so good. Very happy with it. Still have to play around with setting. At the moment my sd card is a class 6 one. Anker recommend a class 10 one. Would it make that much difference to picture quality?

If the class of card is lower than needed for the bitrate it could corrupt files or only part record them. So you run the risk of not having something important recorded if and when needed.

I had this exact problem with a 0801 and it wasn't recording properly or just wouldn't record, even though the dashcam was on. As soon as I stuck in a samsung class 10 it was fine.
    Speed class rating

    4 MB/s Class 4 (C4) -

Sorry if this is the wrong thread but hopefully someone can help me.

I'm looking at getting a dash cam for my car as someone crashed into the front of it on Friday, damaging the front sensor, breaking the number plate and causing damage to the chrome and paint on the car. The individual involved left no contact details for me

I was wondering if dash cams still record when the car is parked up for a couple of hours, eg in work, at a shopping centre, etc?

Also, would I be better off going through my main dealer for a dash cam? I'm just concerned if the warranty on the car would be voided.

Many many dash cams out there look at likes of ddpai m6 or next base.

You can hard wire in and some even have shock or motion sensors so not always recording but will get the clip needed.

Depends on type of car is it new/old?

You don't have to use main dealer but up to you.

    Thanks for the reply.

That motion sensor cam sounds like one I would definitely be interested in.

I have a 171 Peugeot 308 and I'm just concerned that they might void the warranty if I didn't get them to put one in.

    No problems.

If you want you can just plug and play as in use charge point or in fuse board get a piggy back fuse holder and wire up that way.

If you don't want to try yourself others have said halfords fit the kits they sell and also any auto electrician would do it with ease.

I had a look at Halford's today and I think the Nextbase Dash Cam 512GW is the one I'd be most interested in.

Can anyone recommend it? Does it actually start recording if someone hits your car and you're not there?

Also, I was told that the car battery would have to be on constantly for it to work. Is this true?

Sorry for all of the questions!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭Hal1

From what I've read about them and other comments on here. It's a good and reliable camera that does exactly as advertised. Also reasonably priced and simple to setup. I think techmoan (youtube) done a review some time ago.

Looks like a decent dashcam. I've the N1 version and can't fault it, good solid build quality. There's lots of features with that one. They all have the G sensor but I like the parking mode and wide aperture lens that X1 has.

Any recommendations in the €50-100 bracket, as small and neat as possible and ideally battery powered that I could recharge when needed, I don't fancy messing about with fuses or having it constantly plugged into the cigarette lighter socket - or is that mad?

Started on page 1 of the thread but it's from years ago and many links are dead, thanks!

Typically dash cams need a constant power source (it's also how they auto turn on/off), the batteries in them only last a few minutes, and are simply there to enable the last fine being recorded to be saved when the power cuts off (engine/ignition turned off)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭Cortina_MK_IV

IMHO hard wired is the way to go. It's installed and you effectively forget it unless you really want to remove the card.

€46.80 would get you this: http://www.halfords.ie/technology/dash-cams/dash-cams/nextbase-dash-cam-112 then leave you with enough to get it fitted by Halford's if you took that option.

Thanks for the answers, do they cause any issues with car battery drain if hardwired in?

Nope no issues when its hardwired to an ignition live.
Meaning the camera only gets power when the car is on,meaning no real affect to the battery at all.

I got the the maxtek 1080 (model 77433) from aldi thats been there for last few weeks.
    http://www.quesh.co.uk/data/images/products/77433UG.pdf

    My first dash cam. awwww.

For anyone else looking, just go to youtube theres a ton of reviews for all makes and models for anyones budget. For c 50 quid I was happy with the reviews. After a couple days recordings, happy with the video however theres a constant crackling noise when car is on a bumpy ride, ie, it records audio fine when stopped or moving slowly on a smooth road.

anyone ever heard that before? Only checked the video this evening and heard it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭Harcrid

That camera looks the same as the G1W which I have. The crackling noise is the buttons rattling. Just put a clear piece of sellotape over them and it will sort that out. I had to do that on mine.

I have the ambarella 0803 mini cam
After a few weeks meddling with updated firmware, and going over and back with settings I got it where it is almost flawless now.
I must have it 4 years or thereabouts.

I am now on the lookout for another one for a family member,
I think I will certainly go with the Mini 0805, while it is not the latest, It is reported as being the Most relaible.
