Just ordered mine from Geekbuy, €101 including shipping. Spanish stock so no import fees.

It's only $80 from spain warehouse which is about €69.

Hmm the camera is actually a fair bit bigger than I thought. No matter, i'll make it work. It's worth it for the quality. :)

I'm keen on one of these for the picture quality and the undeniable great value, but fear that I would be annoyed that I didn't go for one with GPS. I just feel that in the event of an accident having GPS would be ideal to prove that you weren't speeding thereby contributing to the accident.

Anyone here used cams with and without GPS and have feedback?

I see no benefit in having GPS. The one time you have an accident, you can be sure you'll be 2kph over the limit and wish you never displayed it.

Sorry, didn't realise they were charging for express shipping from Spain when it's free airmail from Hong Kong. I think i'll chance the HK shipped one, even with potential import duties it works out cheaper and there is the chance that it will get through without charges.

GPS is a definite welcome addition to any dash cam for me, the GPS info isn't contained in the video file usually so I wouldn't be worried about that, but for long distant drives where you know there was an incident at a certain point, it saves a lot of time being able to go through your files and check the map for where you were so makes it much easier to find the video in question. Also, with any query looking back at videos you might have, it's always nice to be able to see the location on the map.

You've convinced me. Im no speed demon, but I'm no saint either.

I'll order from the Spanish warehouse as I'll order two so it takes the sting out of the shipping charge.

2 km/h over the limit shouldn't be a problem with a dashcam. Don't expect people to not pull out (for examle) when you're doing 20 km/h over the limit though! I don't know why you'd even expect to use dashcam footage when you were speeding, your own fault at that stage really... GPS speed is very useful and I've seen cases in YouTube where someone has pulled out and claimed that the guy with a dashcam was speeding. Very easy to prove that you weren't if your speed is stamped on the footage.

As a victim of being hit when you have right of way, its up to them to prove you were speeding which is near impossible. A claim will almost certainly rule in your favor regardless.

However imagine the same scenario and you were only a few kph over the limit, which had zero impact on whether you were going to be hit or not, yet your speed was used against you?

I always turn that feature off.

Has there ever been a case where dash cam footage has been seized at the scene of an accident I wonder though? I mean, it's up to you to take it home and do with it what you want?

Nobody is going to use a couple of kph over the limit against you though. Sure the speed vans don't even fine you for going a couple of kph over the limit. I mean it depends on the scenario but I just keep mine on.

You know the way someone here posts up a vid of someone doing something stupid and within an hour, 2 or 3 posters are picking apart the footage complaining about the OPs road positioning, horn blowing, etc.
Now imagine the defending insurance company's legal team with the same footage.

The only situation where anyone is going to seize it would be a serious accident with fatalities or near where the vehicle gets recovered for inspection, chances are in that scenario you would be carted off on a stretcher so no opportunity to take camera footage yourself.

If you think that a counter claim is not going to be made when you provide evidence of breaking the law (even by a little bit) then you are fooling yourself.

Okay, but still I'm sure Voodoo's camera is printing GPS location coordinates onto the screen. I can easily tell his average speed between 2 points in the clip by seeing choosing any starting point, writing down the GPS coordinate and time in the video, going to the end point and doing the same.

Then you can calculate the average speed from the distance he drove in the time between the 2 points.

So there is absolutely no point in hiding your speed on a Mini 08xx camera!

But you can also hide your GPS co-ordinates as well.

on my 0806, I have it set to display date/time & speed only

Wired up my power via a fuse tap in the glovebox. And I'm planning on buying the above tomorrow. Seems a decent deal, and I have a one4all burning a hole in my wallet.

Where did you get the fuse tap Alan?

I ordered that, to make it as easy as possible. But it has a mini usb, and I presume the Xiaomi one is micro?

    Yes, it's micro.
I ordered this - 2x USB sockets, so can attach mini, micro or whatever the device takes..

Does anyone have any recommended online sellers for the mini 0806? Have looked on amazon and ebay and there seem to be loads of different versions/manufacturers.

I got mine from the crowd who set off the boards swear filter!! Have it about a year now and no issues, it's a genuine 0806

If we're talking about the same crowd I got mine from them too with no issues. Is there an issue talking about GB on boards?

Sorry folks - I'm still none the wiser on the site/seller you used. Any chance you could spell it out for me.

    Gearbest Shilling on Bargain Alerts
For those of you who don't know what shilling is, it's when someone represents a brand/shop/product by making recommendations on their behalf when they have a vested interest - either by virtue of the fact that they're an employee of the shop/brand or they've been offered some sort of reward for it.

There is *NOTHING* more insidious and downright evil on a forum like this than shilling. It completely poisons the well of a resource like our Bargain Alerts forum if someone thinks that recommendations and "bargains" can't be trusted.

From now on, all references and recommendation for anything from Gearbest are banned. Their name has gone into our swear filter, so you won't be able to submit a link to their site as of tomorrow.

I will be investigating everyone who's posted any links to this business, if you've been involved in such things and want to remain on this site, I'd urge you to come to me first.

I wouldn't buy from them on principle, but if you've no scruples in that regard, I still wouldn't buy from them because of horrific customer service reports.

There's millions of places to get those 0806 dashcams your after.

I never seen Dav's post before. Maybe you are better off looking somewhere else Zizou. Maybe I just got lucky.

I bought from them twice (the 0806 & Zmodo IP camera) and had no issues at all, maybe I was also lucky,

But I must say it does appear that 99.99% of stuff they sell is pure shïtë

    And their emails are annoying

Just bought and fitted my transcend 220 cam. Neat little thing, and hopefully the footage is decent. I fitted mine tucked up behind the mirror so it's more or less obscured from view in the driver seat. But now I'm wondering if this was a bad idea? Anyone have any thoughts?

Best place for it. Out of site out of mind. Not in your line of sight to distract you.

We look forward to your first video.

If I got in an accident with someone else with a dashcam and I felt they were going over the speed limit, I'd seek discovery in the court case and they would be compelled to disclose the footage. Or for that matter if I were representing the insurance company.
