I got €2k for my 79 Accord a few years ago and the phone melted when I put it on Donedeal. Fella came all the way up from Cork for it, I met him the same evening I advertised at at 10pm. That car was by no means perfect body-wise either.

If I was in the market for another I'd wait for that Civic to drop to €3k and go in with an offer of 26 or 27 hundred.

The equivalent Starlet (albeit RWD) would fetch a good but more funnily enough!

Accord is far more desirable than a base Civic to me and your car was NCT exempt. €2k is good value for pretty much any NCT exempt car in half decent condition :)

Exactly. That's where the W/C126's go first. I'd say behind the wheel wells are gone too. Rear windows on those are very thin and easily shatter when you go to take them out. The only way is to sacrifice the rubber and they are now NLA for the coupé. ]Why oh why is it on a ZV plate when its an 87 car?

    Just on the plate.
He only imported it this year and I suppose he reckons a non year plate will sell better.
    Is he right?

Doesn't it have to be registered before January 1980 to be nct exempt?

The rolling 40 year old NCT exemption takes over from the pre 1980 exemption on January 2020.

I think that rusting wings were a very common problem on MB's of that era, and even later, but new one's are not too hard to find. As long as that's the only rust that is on the car, ( thats unlikely ) it's in very good condition.

Nice little project for the Winter if you're handy with a welder (and its not red rotten), €1500

    I'd love one of these

That’s the quarter panel by the look of it..

You could well be right about that, hard to tell from the pic, the front wings on them were notorious for rusting on the lip. That one in the pic is repairable, but to be really sure, you would have to strip it down with a sander to see the full extent of the damage. Rust is like the proverbial ice berg, 1 /10th visible, 9/10's beneath the surface.

You can tell by looking at the bumper it’s the quarter.

I would agree with you about the proverbial ice berg... spot on...

From looking at that I would say cut out the arch and put in a new section for a permanent fix..

Yes, it's the way to go. I've done quite a few of 'em. Not necessarily all MB though, various make's, but with one thing in common..rust. And rust is rust, no matter the make. Although, with a few exception's. modern car's are better protected against the "Tin Worm" than in the past. There have been big advances in metal composition, so less prone to rust.

1976 Mk1 escort in Longford, £9950, spotless looking, and imported from S.A

(might check under the mattress, see if there's some "loose change") ,

The ad for that Escort gives two different years for it. 1973 and 1976.
I think 1973 is more likely as I don't think MK 1 production ran into 1976.

It's a poor ad, it doesn't make it clear that the car is in Ireland.
All the mention of shipping and international phone numbers makes it look like the car is still in Africa.

Because it's as rough as a bears hole, the bog standard interior is in ribbons, the boot doesn't close properly, the shell maybe immaculate and the engine painted, sorry, rebuilt but that car needs an awful lot of work aka money. Years of SA "mechanics" will reveal many many bodges.

The car is believed to have featured in U2 videos such as 'Rattle and Hum' and 'One' and is also believed to be the first car Bono purchased after the band hit the big-time with their debut album 'Boy'.
The car's log book has the name Paul Hewson – Bono's real name – marked on it.

    Car and Classic

For Sale in 2010 for "€75000"

That car comes up for sale every few years. Maybe worth the money if you're a huge U2 fan.

Surely a pretentious git like bono would have gotten a Dublin reg!!

Beautiful citroen, but you would have to wonder why someone would drive it to ireland without an MOT as it just expired. This car had a load of serious frame and suspension mount corrosion issues in 2011, I wonder was a quick budge and weld job done and its come back?

Either way, I wouldn't touch it until seller was able to put an NCT on it. But I suspect the price wont be as attractive. How much are crappy 90's phones worth these days? ;-)

It says it was brought to Ireland in Sept 2018 so it would of had 11 months mot on the car... this seller may of acquired it from Northern Ireland possibly...

Ah, that's grand, I misread it as 2019. He probably should have VRT'ed and exchanged it for an NCT while he could. It's a bit if a red flag otherwise. Could be great buy at the right price, looks special.

NCT is very strict. I'd say chances are Mr Darcy knows full well it won't pass. Fair play to him for posting up the UK reg though. Whenever I ask a seller via DoneDeal message what the UK reg of the car is, I almost never get an answer

Car has been sitting up for the guts of the last 10 years too. This is from over 9 years ago, MOT history doesn't go back further:
