Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I saw a white Merc a few years ago in Sligo with the reg S1LGO or something like that. I'll have a look on the laptop for a pic when I get home tomorrow.

When I got mine the free text one was $850 I think. You can put in whatever you want and they will review it, so cúntlicker wouldn’t make it etc, one too many letters anyway.

Simple silver on black plates in the style 1FAF001 where numbers and letters are picked for you are $250 I think

You can also get WA ** ## where the stars are you initials and the hashes would be you number choice for between the two.

It’s money for jam for the DoT

Are they tradable to someone else or yours for life? Do they have to be assigned to a specific car or could someone register 100 and then sell?

Would be interesting if they were offered here, say 5 characters after the year, potential money spinner.

AFAIK you can sell them if you wish. I’ve had mine on a Gti, a 79 series land cruiser and now the CC, you can even put them back in the DoT if you won’t have a car for a while and get them back again at a later stage

Probably like the Yaris in that there’s a metal valance under the bumper.

Stopped at lights the other day behind something similar. The whole back of it was coverd in stickers that looked like they were handwritten with a white marker. The two I had time to read were something like this:

I'm not leaking oil. I'm sweating power.

My brakes are all in order. I hope your insurance is.

Hadn't time to take a pic as I knew the green light was imminent. The tool pulled off with a similar cloud of smoke.

I always thought a 2008 mk1 1.9tdi Octavia on the €280 tax rate running a hybrid setup complete with the requisite straight pipe would be the ultimate way to give two fingers to both taxation and tree huggers alike :pac:

Lots of Tesla taxis in Amsterdam, mostly Model S. Early ones at that. And the first Model 3 has been officially put on the road as a licensed NYC taxi.

Doesn't seem to be any big NL government grants for them over there, I had a quick Google and there's a 4 year lease deal available from Telsa but other than that seems to be nothing. Interesting to know how they became so popular over there and not so widespread elsewhere, base price here must be nearly the same as would the taxi fare be.

It is all in the tax you pay when you drive a company car.
EV's have 0% of the value added to your salary on which you pay tax. Hybrids 8% and fuel\diesel 22%

I might have the specifics not completely right but that is a bit the idea.

As for the price of a new one. Ireland has VRT, The Netherlands has BPM (not the musical kind) where you pay tax on top of the cost price of the car and then on the total you pay VAT.
And oh.... motor tax is calculated on the weight of the car with an extra kick in the ass when driving i na diesel. My diesel here €200 tax pa, over there it would be €1400

Fun is over for that 0% for EV's next year though.

That's the way it should be get those dirty diesels off the road.

Typical Ireland government drive a diesel and all you will have to pay is roughly €200 motor tax a year. Dumb bástards. And then they finally figure out diesels are not as clean as they thought they were. I'm no expert on anything but I could have told them that.

Cars running on the much cleaner LPG get the same kick in the arse roadtax wise in The Netherlands.
So whatever the reason is, it isnt the environment.

Denmark was tax by weight until 1998, when it was changed to co2 as it was harmonised with the EU. The old system was unfair to some cars, too.
