the Italian clubs are out doing the Scottish clubs also with attendances

Now that's just horsesh1t. At quick look at the Pro14 website shows that there were 6700 at Glasgow on Friday night for Zebre, which is their lowest crowd of the season. Edinburgh got 27000 at their Christmas derby and are averaging around 5000 in their other games.

Trevisos largest attendance this season was 5000. Zebres was 4000. And those were the Christmas derby matches against each other. They're both averaging well below those figures.

Scottish clubs have come on a lot in ten years whilst the welsh have gone backwards. They will pull the league down some day soon.

Murrayfield is a 67000 capacity stadium. Of course it's going to look empty with 4-5000 people in it. But if you want to ignore the official attendance figures, that's your prerogative. It doesn't make you right though.

The Welsh system would've been similar to the AIL just before professionalism and into the early 2000s in terms of support, they would've had fairly decent crowds and a loyal following.

Unlike the Provinces though, people didn't buy into the regions at all, which is partly due to the fact they didn't have geographical or historic ties to the regions, as well as the fact the clubs could never really agree on what they wanted. They originally wanted to agree to mergers of clubs, but then the likes of Llanneli took legal action saying they wanted to stand alone, which created a 5th region and f*cked things up royally (which is part of why the WRU are trying to get it down to 4 teams again). And only 6 out of the 9 agreed to the plan that was proposed but it went ahead anyways.
but more than AIL teams to be fair. Bit stronger than that. You are correct in a lot of what you say but Welsh have been down at 4 regions for years. Ever since the first or second year of regional rugby in fact.

Except they don't support those either. Club rugby in Wales is dying a death. This narrative of the Welsh being great rugby fans is a load of tosh. They have a big bandwagon support for test matches and almost zero interest below that.
they do support it. Wouldnt say its dying a death. Think calling international support bandwagon isnt really the truth. Hate phrase bandwagon as it's some fans trying to make themselves appear superior to others. It's far from zero support below international.

of course it's going to look empty in a 67000 capacity stadium that they use for cost reasons only. They hope to have alstands ready in next season or so on one of the back pitches that will allow creation of better atmosphere etc

Ya, that's just not true. For the 2018/19 season:

    Team | Avg attendance
    Glasgow | 7,734
    Edinburgh | 6,832
    Benetton | 3,380
    Zebre | 3,041

    For this season:

    Team | Avg Attendance
    Edinburgh | 9,497
    Glasgow | 6,965
    Benetton | 4,144
    Zebre | 2,560

Cardiff look out of contention in Conference B. Their run-in is too difficult. It's going to be quite a scrap between Edinburgh, Munster, Scarlets and Connacht.

Ulster's loss at Ospreys gives Cheetahs some hope of finishing second. Cheetahs have six remaining home games and two of their away games are at Dragons and Kings. Ulster host Cheetahs this weekend and a win is vital. Glasgow are up against it as their run-in is tricky.

    Round 12:

    Edinburgh vs Connacht
    Ospreys vs Leinster
    Zebre vs Munster

    Glasgow vs Dragons
    Ulster vs Cheetahs

    Cardiff vs Benetton
    Scarlets vs Kings

there's absolutely no way Edinburgh get 5k or anywhere near that.
2-3 tops even when the Irish teams are playing.

They work off of tickets issued not "through the turnstile" I'd say.

So you're claiming that in a 67000 stadium that you can tell the difference between 3000 and 4000? Sure you can.

We really dropped the ball at the weekend. Hopefully a sharp wake-up call.

No, but you can tell the difference between 2000 and 5000.

For the games now they only open 4 "sections", the 4 sections hold combined ~1500 seats, pitchiside might have ~200 say, and the camera side might have ~100 (of corporate tickets, family friends of players etc).

I'm no good at judging the size of crowds, but I'd say there's about seventeen million of them. ;)

because many Welsh dont like the league/regions and prefer to attend/support their clubs ahead of pro rugby.
What should change iin the pro14 in your opinion then?

There's that, but also the fact that the population of Wales is only a bit bigger than the population of Leinster, and it has to support 4 pro teams.

and all Welsh regions are in south/west Wales.
Bangor/wrexham/colwyn bay all closer to liverpool than the rugby sides down south.
Rugby is national game though so they get more of best athletes in the country than us in general.

It's well documented in Wales by the likes of Simon Thomas. Loads of support for test games from fans who emerge from hibernation for the 6N and treat the games as a social occasion, massive drunkenness and anti-social behaviour on those weekends, so much so the WRU trialled an alcohol-free section in the stadium for families. Virtually none of these attend club or regional rugby. Bandwagon is a perfect way to describe it, and no judgement or superior attitude thanks, just stating an opinion that is widely held by fans and media in Wales too.

The top three in conference B have created a bit of a gap from the chasers, assuming Scarlets get the maximum at home to the Kings.

Another week, another Pro14 game buried on Eir Sport 2 and unavailable on Sky.

Will be ringing up to cancel on Monday.

Pro14 need to ditch these clowns swiftly.

If it's any consolation I pay for premier sports here and all their streams went down from 20 mins into the first half of the Connacht match til the kick off of the second half.

Rugbypass started to block VPNs the week after they automatically auto-renewed my subscription without notice.

Both games in Italy have been called off next weekend due the carona virus outbreak.

Benetton have already got a game in hand to play next week. That's going to be quite a pile up.

Liam Williams signs with scarlets from now. Great pick up and great to have him back in the pro14.

2 games cancelled this week due to the coronavirus

An Italian ref was meant to head to SA but has been replaced by a hometown ref.

I don't see this calming down for a while, could the season be in jeopardy?

Personally I'd just give Leinster the trophy now and save everyone the hassle.
