Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It seems to have settled a lot in Galway since last night and this morning. Not a breeze out atm.Hoping there's some more ahead now.

NOAA chart for 12pm today. Notice the "developing hurricane force" south of Iceland. There will be some serious conditions at sea up there tomorrow.

Doesn't seem too bad at 2pm. As expected, Belmullet with the strongest winds so far, just above gale force. Still another 4-5 hours until the peak winds should be recorded there. The wind warning for the west is for 3pm to 11pm.
yes doesn't seem to bad at all here either. Its calmed a lot since this morning. Just mucky rain.

    Fingers crossed it does:)

I have a small hand held anemometer which will give an indication of windspeed and although unscientific, I intend to use it in the comming hours to gague an idea of speeds it reports. Just for the heck of it, I may even put out a short streamer on a pole of some description to obtain a better idea of wind direction.

Snow showers into the West tomorrow evening going by the 12z.
Wont last but lying snow quite possible for hills tomorrow night

Where abouts? I was down in Salthill a while ago, the wind was making walking difficult and there was a nice swell with the tide out, should be interesting at high tide. Might be a good idea to clear the aquarium carpark.

Pretty wild here now in Newport, North Tipperary.

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭Chicken1

Just left the prom at Salthill a few minutes ago and there is nothing to report just a strong breeze and a choppy sea certainly not stormy or anything close to a storm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Storm force winds (red) should be fairly close to the west coast at 6pm.

Sun nights wind potential has been increased by both UKMO and gfs.
One to watch, any more upgrades could leave the south under stormy weather Sunday night.

The UKMO also ups the ante for snow showers in the South and West tomorrow night

    What about the north west?
Met office has a snow warning out for scotland as per usual

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Tactical

Errected a small streamer. Unfortunately its only 2mtrs agl but is not obstructed and will serve a a rough wind direction indicator.

Handheld anemometer records sustained windspeed of 17km/h or greater with a gust of 32km/h. SW direction.

I was thinking it sounded at lot worse outside than was recording in town. Torch by my side just in case ;)

It's picked up here in achill. We lost a shed door earlier. Some strong gusts. Still have the ESB but it's flickering. Think this will be the worst of it in the next hour or two.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,530 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sierra Oscar

The gusts seem to have eased off here now, North Tipperary. I'm guessing the reprieve might be short lived.

Have to drive tonight between 9 and 10pm in Donegal. Going from central to north central
Part of the road is littered in overhanging trees
With how bad it is now I'm actually a bit worried about it

No power here in Murrisk, Westport for the last 45 minutes or so. Seems to be on in Westport town itself. Strong gusts every now and again.

My girlfriend couldn't get out of the car with the wind holding the door shut in Tallaght, it's only picked up in the last half an hour.
    Fairly strong alright.

It's really not that bad here in Ennis - if I hadn't seen this here wouldn't have thought twice about it...was a lot worse the other night.
