Yeah. Evidence so far us that absolutely nobody has been offended but plenty have assumed that others would be offended.

The evidence is that people take it in the same spirit that you do.

ED I don't know why you're replying like this to my posts. I never said people are offended in it I said people might find it offensive and people "could find offensive". I was never referring to the views of others but rather my own analysis of some of the jokes. Maybe take it up with the people who are talking about people taking offence?

You've invoked the same sentient as loads of other posters. I was commenting on the prevalence of the sentiment and the complete absence of evidence for it. It's interesting. That's all.

It's certainly interesting. I agree with you anyway.

Why are the first 3 seasons only on Netflix? What's the likelihood they'll put on the rest?

It might sound weird given some of the subject matter but my memories of watching that show were wholesome ones. People might say it was offensive nowadays, however, the underlying sentiments conveyed in the program were anything but.

I've never heard anyone say it's offensive. Like, there's an episode of Fawlty Towers where Basil and the major are debating the right slur to use for Indians and I don't recall anyone talking about that. I can't imagine that this has not be edited out now.

As I get older, I understand less and less why people moan about something from a show clearly intended for previous generations not being allowed nowadays as if this were some sort of scintillating new insight they've only just themselves realised. It's all over the place and it's depressing hearing people who otherwise have very little to moan about say this as if it means the show can't exist or something when it's widely available for streaming.

Trigger by far one of the best comedy characters ever written.

Agreed. I love how the other characters never get used to him despite most of them having known him since childhood.

Did anyone else watch that and wish they lived in London growing up? I was always struck by how diverse it was, while having a strong sense of community.

That said, Peckham as represented there is unrecognisable today as is a lot of London. Gentrification has made even the roughest estates nearly unaffordable.

I think you have to separate the reason people moan about things into motives. Some people just like to be offended. Not that I've personally heard anything about Only Fools.

Couple of bits, like any 80s show, wouldn't go down well now.

Del going on about AIDS and "bandits", "some mush called JA-SON" etc in the episode when hes sick.

Albert complaining about not being able to get credit from "that Paki".

Del in A Losing Streak talking about "only Provo weight watcher in London” which the BBC made them clumsily dub over "only genuine weight watcher in London”.

But nothing too severe in any of that. Sign of the times.

What the hell has Climate Change got to do with it? Nice shoehorn. And I've seen much less "PC" stuff on the telly in the many years after OFAH. Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 out of 10 cats (Does Countdown).

Sh1t look at Derry Girls. Every second sentence out of their mouths is un-PC. Are you trying to say OFAH was crasser than that? Was it bollocks.

It's just tiresome seeing grown men clog up these threads with exactly the same whiny drivel over and over again. Look at the start of this thread for instance. Thankfully, most people just want to share clips and talk about how wonderful this show was.

Raquel: Out of Africa is on later.

I got to use a line form the show today. The Mrs. was giving out about a friend of hers who continuously "misunderstands" the covid restrictions so she can do whatever she wants.

I told her, "as Delboys dear old mum used to say: there's none as blind as them what just won't listen"

Just watching The Jolly Boys Outing.
It has to be the best only fools episode. Not only is it full of memorable gags it has all the characters. Everyone gets a moment. From Trigger and his Dolphin line to mickeys line of the coachbusters.

I think that's why this is the very best. It's not just del, Rodney and uncle Albert. It's everyone.

Its a good one BA. My favourite is probably the feature length To Hull and back.

Remember when Raquel's folks came round for dinner and Albert mixed up the gravy and the coffee?

Del: "I don't believe what you've done to me. Not only have you managed to sink every battleship and aircraft carrier that you've ever sailed on, but now you've gone and knackered a gravy boat!"

It wasn't until about the 3rd time I saw that episode that I realised what a gravy boat was :)

Best episode, or my favourite anyway, is when Rodney branches out on his own with Mickey Pierce, the one with Grandads famous "wendy" line.

Del: "They're not just ordinary lawnmower engines."

    Rodney (getting excited): "No?"

    Del: "They're broken lawnmower engines."

Ohhh a very good episode. I would say it's the second best episode of only fools imo. A real classic.

Am I alone in thinking the Miami Twice episodes are the worst of the entire series?

    I liked 'em!

"Why have you brought Limey's to my house?"

"One of them looks just like you Pop"

"Once I was at the Zoo and saw a Camel that looked just like your mother but I didn't invite it home and put it in the guest suite!"

Characters were absolutely gold. So was the writing. The Jolly Boys Outing was a favorite of mine too... you could imagine being on that trip.... it wasn’t just throwaway slapstick funny, it was relatable...cleverly hilarious and entertaining. Sullivan had that knack.

    It is amazing.
I have lost count of how many times I have watched this episode. But John Sullivan really had a knack as you said.

I just realised that like he sets up the first half of the episode as total comedy. But then the latter half is about Del and Raquel. Like he inserts the drama. Like del reconnecting with his old flame Raquel. The whole great ramondo bit. Del thinking he was being an jerk. Turning out he was gay.

The introduction of the Stephen yuppy character at the start so Rodney would end up living back with del and albert. Setting up the future episode.

Even little character traits like boycie, Alan and Mike getting a luxury hotel down by the sea front because each man could 'afford' it. While the others tried to get a bed and breakfast. He was an amazing writer.

Totally, he’s interviewed when he was alive ( as opposed to when he was dead ) and just a normal joe soap, with just a good sense of humor and a cleverness, creativity and radar for funny, characters were eccentric but believable, not outlandish with the odd exception just... funny as...

Yeah I thought it wasn’t funny and was waaaaaayyyyyyy too long.

I don’t begrudge them having the ambition to do something different, but it was their worst show.
