Lads it was a really close fight with not much in any of the rounds.

    Fine with those judges cards

That was an absolute belter if a fight. Major props to Colby. Clearly a twat with his talk and trump ****e but he is one tough dude.

Superb performance from Usman. Took all the shots and executed his own when the openings appeared.

And as Rogan said, they need all new judges

I don't agree man, a great fight like that deserves a solid conclusion, no one was in danger, let it run.

Eh, he was was panic wrestling and then cowered without defending himself. It was as a very good fight, and he fought very well, but it was over and he wanted out.

I think Goddard saved Covington from some serious damage, he was fooked.

    Good stoppage in my book.

You would have to wonder how people can watch a close fight and not understand that one fighter can still win all the rounds.

I had it 2-2 going into the last, no issue with 3-1 either way. It was very close but Usman closed the show well.

You'd have to wonder who how people can watch a man take a dozen unanswered shots on the goround after getting dropped and desperately trying to fumble for legs of the man reigning blows down on them and not understand the fight was clearly over.

Blows from hell right to the armpit.

Yes that is correct but most of Covington's punches weren't nearly as strong or affective as Usman's.

was still landing so earning points, could see it 3-1 usman or 2-2 by end of round 4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭US2

How can anyone have a problem with that stoppage? I'd a fair few shekels on colby myself but he was done.

Great fight , jab jab jab jab jab haymarker jab jab jab from both for 5 rounds .

Didnt score it but would have thought it was 2-2. Wouldn't hate a rematch at some stage

I don't think anyone could argue with the judges scores, I had it 3-1 Colby but 3-1 Usman was as likely.

*Dana said* that Aldo will prob fight cdjudeo next for the title after losing to the no1 or contender in his only fight in the division..madness. I know Petr yan is class but aljermaine ****ing Sterling has to fight for belt. Madness

Lost every round too or at least 4. He wont be champ again while volkinofski is around max has nothing to trouble him. In a hard spot now max cosi cant see him doing much at 155 either

3rd round ko via headkick. Can't believe the guys on commentary tried to say Urijah stunned him in round 2. He was so much faster & hits harder than Faber.

I thought Fabers corner where pathetic, no way should they have let him out for the 3rd. Like leading a lamb to the slaughter. Fair play to the ref, he was waiting for the first chance to step in and he did, saving Faber from taking anymore unjust punishment.

I honestly felt like Max hadn't done his homework. It wasn't too long ago he was underdog against Ortega and completely schooled him.
I wouldn't put it past Max to learn from it and come back.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the stoppage in the main event.

Except for the 4 illegal hammer fists to the back of the head?

When you get stunned that hard though he need to do more than what Colby did, I agree there. Just can’t understand why know one is talking about the hammer fists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭pastorbarrett

Perhaps Goddard could have issued warning and let it run. More conservative decision was to call it a day and protect the fighter - not worth squabbling over. Sometimes referees calls are *mostly* ok - I think this is one of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭pastorbarrett

Certainly of all fighters, Colby had the worst outcome last night. Really, it was all or nothing. His schtick has manifested some very real ramifications in his personal life that will likely haunt him for some time. And all in all, he fell short.

Some people don't get the work and want to punch his face in. Other's get it and want to do it regardless.

    High price to pay.

Usman looked fresh as a daisy at the end. Could have ran a 170 gauntlet.

    Delira he pummeled Covington.

Forever baffles me. Not just fans, but pundits, too...

Just because a fight is closely fought, does not mean that there has to be close cards....

Catching up on this card. Is the Holloway fight worth a watch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,601 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Whatever judge scored it 50-45 needs to be taken out and shot.

Judges in Vegas are, routinely, retarded.

Which round do you think he didn’t win?

Must watch it again but I'm sure they were treating/concerned about the wrong eye, thought that was strange.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,509 ✭✭✭VW 1

If Colby caught his eye, it's was Usmans left eye. They were checking his right eye and that's the one he was blinking to clear. Very strange altogether.

Just caught up on the fights, at the end almost every shot Usman was throwing was catching Colby straight in the face, and two put him down, Colby was done even with just a minute left

    Rogan is worse.

I actually like Dominic Cruz, Paul Felder and Michael Bisping.

I just love how mouthy he was about Colby all fight, yet when Colby eye pokes Usman DC is dead silent.

I have to say I like Anik, Rogan and DC togther, good honest commentary for the most part and some great, genuine banter between Joe and DC too.

Joe definitely says things others wouldn't which I really do find refreshing. Never forget the CM Punk fight where he said if he were conspiracy minded, he'd think someone paid Jackson to keep the fight going. Or when Ngannou and Lewis were scrapping...his brutal honesty was just genuinely very funny.

I also like Cruz, Felder is OK, most definitely Dan & John are excellent...only one I really don't like is Michael Bisping.

I used to like Goldy but since he went to Bellator he's really gone downhill, it seems to me like he's not really bothered anymore, he's become increasingly more like he's blatantly reading off a page and pressing catchphrase buttons.

I also think Big John is just awful, can't stand his commentary. Was never a big fan of Jimmy Smith but compared to Big John he is infinitely better.

The Aldo fight yesterday is my issue with the commentary. They have a huge influence on peoples perspective of how the fight is going. To listen yesterday you'd have thought Aldo dominated and controlled from start to finish.

Ya I thought Aldo was the more dominant fighter. Would definitely have given him the win.

Great card all round. Nunes looked human but it's still going to take a lot to beat here. Volkanovski fought a great fight. Holloway looked to be getting a better read on him towards the end, but it looks like it will be tough to stop Volkanovski. Good power, skill level, fight planning, etc. Usman-Covington lived up to the hype. Great back-and-forth. Feel like Usman had the upper hand in terms of technique, etc. Colby is tough a hell but beyond the odd flurry that landed a few shots, I don't know if he has the answer to Usman. No problem with the stoppage either. He was done.

I did too but the bias in the commentary was crazy

What specifically about Goldberg did you like and what about Anik do you not like?

I mean I'm not picking on you but Goldberg is on Bellator now with Big John McCarthy and they're absolutely brutal. His job is to call the action but he ends up missing half of it while he rambles on about stuff not related to the fight at hand. He still screams "Just like that" though if that's what you miss.

Really surprised to see so many saying that this was a good stoppage.

Maybe I need to watch it again, but most of those punches looked like they were to the back of the head. You can't stop a fight due to illegal blows.

If he was repeatedly punching Colby in the balls, sure Colby deserves it probably, but would people be saying itwas a good stoppage? I don't think so!

Didn't see any punches to the back of the head. My memory is Colby being knocked, Usman coming in, Colby grabbing the leg, Usman landing a few body blows before moving to the head, ref stoppage. Colby did turn his head from those final blows but they were still landing to the side. Is that what you saw as illegal blows?

IMO it was a great stoppage by the ref. Colby was done and only going to take more damage. You could see he was done after the first knock-down. He showed some iron will to get back up. TBH I'd say Colby knows it too but has to have some excuse to save face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭JoeyJJ

The first 2 were clearly back of the head, the next 4-6 blows were legal and he stopped it. Ideally he should have seen the first two and stood them up however he didn't.

Ya found a gif of the finish. There was a couple of blows that landed on the back of the head but they weren't too bad. I still don't have an issue with how it played out.

I just did. See my other comment. Literally just watched it a dozen times. The only difference between my memory and what happened was there was a few glancing blows to the back of the head before Usman moved to punching around the arm and into the face.

It went, armpit, back of head, back of head, armpit, face, face, multiple blows to side of head until ref stoppage. Colby didn't have a leg either. Was never close to closing his hands. They were on the legs but never active. Colby was more done than I originally thought.
