Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I will be looking forward to Cody McKenzie's fight.
Curious to see if it ends with a guillotine in the first or second round :D

Although if my memory serves right he is up against a good striker too.

I love Meathead, so looking forward to his fight.

The main event is gonna be a cracker IMO. I never liked Guillard but he seems a new man since he joined Jackson's camp and he's a ery exciting guy.

Dunham is exciting too and will be a future contender! Should be a good one.

And I agree with the sentiments on Mike Brown. But didnt he jump in here and replace an injured fighter? he's desperate to show he's worth a UFC contract!

Eh the fact that if Mark hominick beats Roop he gets a title shot at Jose aldo at UFC 129 Toronto which im attending so hell yeah i hope he wins! :)

Dunham i hope destroys melvin, also wanna see meathead and pat barry do well, and cole miller too, win over wiman will see him with top top competition next

I like Cole and he seems to look better every time he steps in.

If he beats Wiman next week and Donald Cerrone beats Paul kelly in a couple of weeks, i can see the UFC putting together a grudge match between the 2. The Cowboy has been talkin some smack about Cole and says he wants to fight him next.

That would be a storming fight!

    FYP

Er...... he's been winning! And he's been doing a good enough job that they're putting him in a Main event.

And what you'd call "balls" others might call recklessness! Remember the Nate Diaz fight? That's where balls gets you, chocked unconcious!

He's always had the tools, what he's needed is a strategist to show him how to use those tools effectively and to win fights. How is that a bad thing? I have a feeling you're jumping on the "Dana thinks Jackson's fighters are boring" bandwagon here!

    +1
Never liked him myself but he does seem to have turned a corner and I was impressed with him recently (God I'm so fickle)

Anybody that wins gets put on a main event, doesn't matter if it's exciting or not. And he wasn't even meant to be the main event.

Yeah, he's a decent fighter, but I don't want to see another Guida, used to be an exciting fighter, now just wins boring fights. And I've been on the "Jackson's fighters are boring" bandwagon for years ;)

Guida is still an exciting fighter, dunno how ya could call him boring. Worked his gameplan to a T against Gomi

The fans booing during his last fight thought he was boring. For part of the fight at least

Fitch works his gameplan perfectly every time, but he's still a boring fighter

Why did your 5 your old brother buy a copy of Ulysses? Tbh he sounds like a protege and you probably should ask him for advice on literature :D

Well, he heard off his friends that it was gonna be a thrill a minute rollercoaster, but when he was reading what was actually well crafted literature, he found some of the slower paced parts "boring" and he was too ignorant to appreciate it, so he just kept shouting BOOOOOOO!!!!!!! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

If there was an arena with a sizable portion of 5 year olds booing the book then your point would have some merit

I'm not saying that Guida is boring, he's one of my very favourite fighters and I enjoyed his last fight very much. But it was asked how anyone can find him boring and I was pointing out that it's true that there were a lot of paying customers who found him boring recently, at least for a while

But paying customers thinking he's boring does not equal him being boring!

How many times have you seen a great ground battle and some of these "paying customers" start booing? he realisy is, a lot of these paying customers are drunk rednecks who wanna see Tank Abbott fight a bear wearing one boxing glove!

Naturally the bear's name is Art

Christ, I could barely read Anne and Barry when I was 5, nevermind critically review it.

Anyways there's a difference between an interesting grappling exchange and a wrestler holding someone down for 15 minutes. I don't think it all comes down to just being from Jackson's camp.

I remember Jon Jones got Matt Hamill on the ground and it was far from boring.

He worked his gameplan perfectly, it worked for him, but all that gameplan seemed to be was jumping around the Octagon, hardly exciting?

I'm all for wrestling, at least if it goes to the ground the other fighter can do something. Whereas if you're not a good wrestler, that involves one or two punches, run away for a minute or two, another jab or two, and keep running hoping to outpoint him. That's not exciting to watch, it's more like watching a game of chase..

    Yup - 2am-5am.

Update: Prelims will now be shown live on Facebook. Yes, facebook. You can view them on the official UFC page. I assume GMT they're being shown from 1-2am.

Does anyone of you know of any public place to catch the event live? I'll be arriving in Dublin saturday afternoon and would love to see the fights. I guess all pubs are closed during that time, any sports bar that are open late?

If it won't be available at all, perhaps it would be possible to watch it somewhere on sunday evening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,603 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

The casinos will be open, other than that I can't think of a place quiet enough to watch.

I had a look at the odds available, Guillard is a huge underdog

    Main card accu-bet

Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard[1]
Heavyweight bout: Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague[1]
Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. George Roop[1]
Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran[1]
Lightweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman[1]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 Luke1

    Alright, thanks for the tip.

I've also put down a single bet on Guillard, I was very surprised to see him as such a huge underdog. I'm thinking of putting down some on Pat Barry aswell. Perhaps a small parlay on Guillard, Barry, Miller and Hague. In my opinion Mitrione *should* win this fight, although I believe the odds are too much in favour for Mitrione. If it goes the distance I wouldn't be surprised if Hague pulls of a split decision.

I really doubt it's going to decision. They're 2 VERY heavy hitters!

No decision here :pac:. And Hague has a suspect chin. I like Mitrione, seems to come on leaps and bounds every fight, getting impressive.

    i've backed guillard at 15/8
think it's just too big of a price.
There won't be much between these two and
if guillard can go the distance i think he can
    eek out a decision

    also done a treble on
    hominick
    mitrione
    barry
spotted yves edwards after i'd done the bet
    looks a cert also
mc kenzie will have this fight and one more and
he'll probably be dropped after that unless he's
improved a tonne since tuf and can maybe take a punch

It's working now alright. Quality is sh*t. The last time they had pre-lims via the internet, I found the quality from the actual UFC website to be a lot better.

The sooner the main broadcast starts the better.

Quality is crap but its a very consistent stream which is good enough for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Jayo_M

I'm used to this quality these days due to a lack of ESPN. Have to stream any soccer or MMA I want to watch. Not ideal :p

Yeah he didn't perform very well. He's also lost 4 of his last 6 fights so he'll be under pressure to start performing now or he could get cut! Things have being going downhill for him since the loss to Aldo.

When is McKenzie-Edwards starting? Enjoying this so far.

Aye. Still gotta give credit to Yahya though. An absolute handful. Brown's punches became quite laboured in the end. Looked wrecked.

Would hope that he won't be cut in the hope that he can regain some of his old form.

    McKenzie via guillotine again?
