Delighted for Matt. He's used to breaking cork hearts. Up Kerry.

It's great to see the lads who have come up from local leagues perform so far. Lads like Anto O'Connell, who was supposedly training with Cork this year and the likes of Keane and Guerins.

    Shelbourne 2-2 Treaty

    (Hanlon, O'Connell)

Treaty were leading 1-0 after 90 minutes, and then needed a 97th minute equaliser to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

We were better all over the pitch in the first half and had already hit the post and forced a good save before we took the lead when a freekick into the box broke nicely for Red Hanlon to smah home.

Shels got more into it in the second half, and came very close with a free header at the back post which was parried by Tadhg Ryan, and then the striker, the keeper and a defender all launched themselves at the ball, then everybody looked at the ref, and he just signalled to play on with the ball in Ryan's hands on the line.

We had some of our own chances but Shels were getting closer, though it looked like we might see it out entering injury time, but that was only the beginning of the entertainment. First Shels equalised when a freekick into the box was glanced on and poked home, and then Treaty were reduced to 10 men when Anto O'Donnell got a second yellow. Shels looked to have stolen it in the 95th minute with a snapshot from the edge of the area, but Treaty went up the pitch and forced a corner, and Clyde O'Connell arrived at the far post to sidefoot in from about 10 yards out.

(All of this was made worse by the fact that the app I use to get score updates is a good 60 seconds ahead of the action on the screen, and it was pinging away with updates, and then pinging again to correct itself because the updates were wrong, so I hadn't a clue what was going on).

Crazy ending, and we really ran out of steam as we just aren't as fit as most of the other teams in the division, but still a solid performance and, despite how we arrived there, a solid result.

Next game: away to UCD, Friday May 7th, 7.45pm

Second time this season we have conceded a goal from a free...that wasn't a foul...fair infuriating

A good result to salvage an away point but the disciplinary record is poor. Can’t keep going down to 10 and expecting Lady Luck to continually keep you in games. Great start to the season though everything considered.

Red Card was a second yellow...

Shel's free for their first goal, was never a free, and clyde got a yellow for it too...he won the ball on the half way line

    UCD 3-2 Treaty

    (McSweeney pen, Hanlon).

Great first half for Treaty, but UCD came back to deservedly claim all 3 points tonight, and bring our claim to fame as the only unbeaten side in LOI history to an end.

We started the sharper and were in control all over the pitch, and went ahead after Red Hanlon engineered a penalty which McSweeney scored. We continued to be the better team and were 2-0 up after 35 minutes when a ball over the top broke for Hanlon and he placed a beautiful lob over the stranded keeper.

For most of the first half UCD were passing the ball nicely but in front of the Treaty team, but the finally got in behind the Treaty defence down the right wing and worked a lovely goal just before half time.

In the second half though, it was all UCD for the most part, as their passing and fitness shone through. They equalised on 50 minutes with a snapshot from the edge of the area after a blocked shot, and took the lead just a couple of minutes later with a toepoke home from a tight angle after a bit of a scramble in the box.

We still had the best part of 40 minutes to get back into it, but while we huffed and puffed, we didn't create any real chances, just balls into the box that were fairly easily dealt with, and one shot that clipped the post very late on. UCD probably looked the more likely to score and missed a couple of chances to nick a goal on the break.

Next game: Home versus Athlone Town, Friday May 14th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty Utd 1-0 Athlone

    (Lynch)

Treaty back to winning ways tonight in the rain and gloom.

Athlone passed the ball really well and were a threat throughout the game, and Treaty were penned back a bit early in the game. But we played our way into it and took the lead midway through the first half. After a blocked Hanlon shot, the ball fell for McSweeney about 25 yards out and he played a superb through ball from an awkward angle, the kind of pass nobody could have seen, and all of a sudden Jack Lynch is in on goal and smashed a finish into the bottom corner.

In the second half, both sides continued to attack, and Treaty had a goal disallowed for offside after a lovely move. Athlone were still pressing, but never really managing to find the final ball. The closest they came was a ball into the box that was either missed by everybody or deflected by somebody and Tadhg Ryan had to make a reflex save at his near post. Treaty could have finished it on the break later on, and Athlone missed a couple of headers in good positions. We held on for the win, and join Athlone in 4th position on 13 points.

    Next game:
away to Cabinteely, Friday May 21st, 7.45pm.

What's happened to Cork recently. Have they had another one of their periodic near bankruptcies or something ?

Yup. Only for the owner of Preston they'd have gone to the wall. Same fella is funding them for this season. If the takeover doesn't happen before the start of next season they could be in serious trouble.

Must be the only club with more restarts and different names than Limerick over the years

The funny thing is some of the Cork fans had the gall to lecture everyone else how clubs should be run like theirs.

To be honest I can't understand how they let it get to this stage. 3-4 thousand people in the gate every second week, loads of sponsorship, plenty of merch sold, use of turner's cross at a much more reasonable rate than what Limerick were paying for The Markets Field, great underage players coming through, players being sold off to the UK.

    Cabinteely 2-1 Treaty

    (McSweeney)

Fairly even first half in a windy Dublin tonight. Treaty maybe had more of the territory but didn't do too much with it, a couple of decent long-range efforts and easily-saved headers. Cabinteely were decent but didn't fashion much apart from a 25-yard shot that cannoned off the crossbar. But the went ahead just before half-time, when a ball over the top arrived at the edge of the area and the Cabinteely striker got there first to nick it past the advancing Tadhg Ryan and then finish to the empty net.

We equalised very early in the second half when Ed McCarthy fired a low ball across the box. The Cabinteely keeper dived to intercept the cross before Hanlon could get to it, but he palmed the ball only to McSweeney who found the net despite the best efforts of the covering defender on the line.

Unfortunately Cabinteely were back ahead within a minute. Tadhg Ryan saved a fierce shot, palming it up into the air, and it dropped onto the crossbar, bouncing out kindly for a Cabinteely player to head in. We had more of the ball after that, and created a few chances and half-chances, but Cabinteely kept their attack pushed up and were a real threat on the counter too, and probably had better chances than we did. Once Hanlon went off after an hour, and especially McSweeney going off with 10 mins to go, we looked out of ideas and less threatening towards the end, with only one Coustrain snapshot to show for our efforts, and Cabinteely pick up the points.

Disappointing end to the first series of games. Although Cabinteely were better than I expected, it was one of our poorer performances, but still a very very solid start to the season.

Next game: home to Bray Wanderers, Friday May 28th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty United 2-0 Bray Wanderers

    (Armshaw, OG)

2 late goals got Treaty all 3 points tonight, and we overtake Bray as a result. It was all Bray in the first half, they dominated midfield completely and spent most of the half in our final third, but didn't create too many real chances. Their best chance was when a bit of confusion in the defence resulted in a chance for their striker to loop a header over our stranded keeper, but he directed it just wide. They had a couple of other half-chances whereas we created next to nothing, with Sean McSweeney sorely missed.

The second half was a different story, with Treaty getting well into the game and creating chances. We came close when a lovely Ed McCarthy flick send Matt Keane in behind the defence but the keeper saved his strong shot, and we came even closer when McCarthy lashed a shot against the post from about 25 yards. Bray came back into it and forced a good save from Tadhg Ryan. But just when it looked like we'd get another 0-0 draw between the teams, Treaty took the lead. Willie Armshaw picked up the ball around 25 yards out, and went on a mazy dribble into the box past 2 defenders, and then finished from a very acute angle past the keeper. And just 2 minutes later it was 2-0, when a Bray defender misjudged a cross into the box and planted a header that any striker would be proud of into the bottom corner of his own net.

Bray pressed, but we actually looked more dangerous and missed a chance or two to make it 3, but 2 was enough, and it's the first time we've won by more than a goal this season. Shelbourn 5 points clear on 24, UCD on 19, then Athlone and Treaty on 16.

We now have a short break, so no games next week.

Next game: away to Wexford, Friday June 11th, 7.45pm

    Wexford 1-2 Treaty

    (O'Donnell, Lynch)

Treaty back to winning ways after the short break. We got off to the worst possible start, conceding after just 90 seconds. A ball over the top caught the defence asleep and the striker finished easily past Tadhg Ryan. But we were level after 10 minutes, when Ludden recycled after a corner and swung in another cross which Anto O'Donnell headed in.

And we were ahead after about 20 minutes. Ludden fired in a low ball across the box, and Red Hanlon's attempted shot helped it on to Jack Lynch to poke home. We had the better of it until half time, forcing a good save from the keeper and also hitting the post with a snapshot from a corner into the box.

The second half was a quiet affair, Wexford had more possession but never really did more with it or came close to breaking us down. We actually came closest when sub Willie Armshaw went on a crazy run from halfway past 2 or 3 Wexford defenders, but when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper he placed the shot just wide.

It was always a bit nervy just because of the 1-goal margin, but we saw it out very comfortably.

Next game: away versus Cobh, Saturday June 19th, 7.45pm.

    Cobh 0-2 Treaty United

    (Fleming, McKevitt)

Another super result for Treaty tonight. I missed the first hour of this because of some work I was doing, and the key points of what I missed were Red Hanlon missing a penalty just before half-time, and then taking the lead just after half-time, when a Fleming freekick into the box from about 40 yards out evaded everybody and found its way onto the net.

From what I saw, Cobh pressed but never really created much. There was one scramble which needed a Ludden header off the line, and maybe their best chance came with about 3 minutes to go, and was a snapshot from broken ball after a corner, that fizzed just past/over. And Treaty went straight up the field to make it 2 and seal the victory. Willie Armshaw received a Ludden thrown and wriggled to the endline, then his cut-back was finished by Matt McKevitt for his first goal for the club. Great stuff for a lad who always puts in a proper shift as a substitute.

That result takes Treaty up to second in the table - a super season so far, for a team that was put together so quickly. It's a real achievement for Tommy Barrett and his players, and they'll be playing in front of a small number of fans next week too.

Next game: home to Galway, Friday June 25, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 0-1 Galway

first home defeat of the season, and Galway deserved the win to be fair.

There really isn't much to report - I can't remember either team having a serious effort on target in the first half, in a fairly even contest.

Two minutes into the second half, a Galway player ghosted in between our centrehalfs to glance home a lovely cross from the right, and even though Treaty had more of the possession and territory after that, and never stopped trying, we never really looked likely to score. We knocked balls into the box and had one header just over, but I don't think we forced the keeper into a save for the whole second half, maybe even the whole match.

we are missing McSweeney badly, and even though Red Hanlon came on for the final 15 minutes or so he is either unfit or carrying an injury, and we had no real threat.

UCD win to take 2nd place from us on goal difference, and Galway join the two teams on 22 points, 11 behing Shels.

Next game: away to Cork, Friday July 2nd, 7.45pm.

Best of luck to them ,great to see Limerick on the football map again. Not the greatest name ,imo, but still , fair play. For too long Limerick senior soccer has been an absolute joke ,with a bizarrely snobby/elitist fanbase who only sang when they were winning, and lame songs at that. F off with your sean south trash.

    Cork 2-3 Treaty United

    (Hanlon 2 (2 pens), Collins)

Missed the first 25 minutes of this, and by the time I tuned in, Treaty had taken the lead through a Hanlon penalty, but Cork had equalised soon after. I did see Cork take the lead just before halftime, when Treaty had a horrible defensive mixup with 2 players running into each other, and gifting Cork the ball in front of goal, and they were punished for it.

Just a minute into the second half, we were level from another penalty. A freekick into the box was flicked on and a Cork player was penalised for handball, and Hanlon scored again. It was pretty even after that, Maybe Cork shaded things but neither team created too many chances.

With about 15 minutes to go, out of nothing, we were ahead. Joe Collins hit a speculative shot from about 20 yards out and out near the edge of the penalty which seemed harmless enough, but whether it took a deflection, or a bad bounce, or was just bad keeping, the Cork keeper could only palm it into the roof of the net.

We had to hold on after that, as Cork fired ball after ball into our box, and there were scary moments, good clearances, penalty claims, and good saves, but we held on for a valuable win to stay well in the hunt for the playoffs.

Next game: home to runaway leaders Shelbourne, Friday July 9th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty United 1-1 Shelbourne

    (Armshaw)

Finally, boards allows me to post this.

A superb 93rd minute strike rescued a point for Treaty last Friday night against the league leaders.

Shels had the better of the possession and territory for most of the game, but didn’t manage to fashion too many chances in the first half. Treaty had the first chance when a ball into the box evaded everybody and arrived at Ed McCarthy right in front of goal, but he wasn’t expecting it and couldn’t control. Shel’s best chances were about 10 minutes before half time - a 2 on 1 opportunity which saw Tadhg Ryan make a good save, and a badly miscued header just seconds later.

Shels took the lead with about 20 minutes to go. The treaty defence made a rare slip up when misjudging the flight of the ball, and Michael O’Connor pounced to control and lash home a low shot from the edge of the area. Treaty almost equalised just a minute later when Ludden surprised everybody with an effort from just inside the Shels half, and although ex-Limerick keeper Brendan Clarke was struggling to get back to his goalline, the ball clipped the bar and went over.

Treaty kept pressing, and came close again when Anto O’Donnell somehow poked wide from a super Ludden cross. Later on it was Shels who looked the more likely on the counter, and they missed two good chances to put the game to bed. Tadhg Ryan was up for a free into the box in the 92nd minutes, and the free turned into a corner, and when the corner was cleared, Willie Armshaw collected it a couple of yards outside the box, and curled an absolutely wonderful strike across the goal into the top left corner, to the delight of the 200 fans in attendance.

Shels stay well clear, and Galway have a points advantage in second place now, but it was a positive night overall to keep pace with the leaders, avoid another home defeat, and you could really see the heart in the squad by the way they chased the equaliser, and how they celebrated it.

Next game: home versus UCD, Friday July 16th.

    Treaty United 2-1 UCD

    (Lynch 2)

My first time back in the Markets Field since late 2019, and got a good game to return to.

We started the brighter and forced a goal line clearance from a corner after just 2 minutes, but had Tadhg Ryan to thank later as he made up huge ground to claw a header around the post for a corner.

Treaty took the lead after about 25 minutes. A Ludden ball into the box (not really a cross as it was from a fairly central position) was glanced on by Jack Lynch and the keeper will be disappointed he didn’t keep it out of his near bottom corner.

UCD equalised after about 53 minutes, when Treaty conceded a penalty. A defender tried to shepherd the ball out over the endline, but a UCD player nipped in to rob the ball and then went down in the tackle, and they scored the penalty.

But Treaty were ahead just 5 minutes later. Red Hanlon worked it wide to Matt Keane, he curled in a ball to the far post, and Jack Lynch was waiting to sidefoot home.

UCD pressed and got in behind our defence a couple of times, and were always a threat, but we were a threat as well and came closest when Clyde O’Connell hit the post with a surprise shot from about 30 yards, and we held on for the win, to stay 3rd behind Galway, but only on goal difference now.

Next game: next weekend is the FAI Cup, and we are scheduled to be home to Dundalk on Sunday July 25, but that may change, depending on what happens in their European matches.

Looked like a carpet from where I was, apart from some lines where it looked like the tracks of a lawnmower or roller had pressed down into the ground. Couldn't see the camera side in any detail, but didn't notice an unusual bounces/rolls.

As a noob to the league of Ireland i think its some testament to Treaty for doing as well as they have this season given the circumstances of the history of Limerick football.

Is it just 1st place that proceeds to the premier division?

In the First Division, third and fourth play each other, the winner of that plays the team that finish second. Then the winner of that plays the team that finishes 9th in the Premier Division.

Good first half against Dundalk in the cup when you consider the lads were playing with ten men more or less. Surprised to see Red start the second half after that first half unless lads are injured.

FAI Cup: Treaty United 0-1 Dundalk (AET)

Treaty exited the FAI Cup despite a brave performance against cup holders Dundalk this afternoon. As expected, Dundalk had much more of the possession and territory, but in the first half they didn’t do a whole lot with it. Their Korean forward forced Tadhg Ryan into a good near-post save, but likewise, Joel Coustrain curled in a shot that forced their keeper into a good save.

In the second half, Dundalk’s pressure grew and grew and we got more and more defensive. Ryan had to make 3 or 4 good saves, and David McMillan missed a great chance when he headed straight at Ryan when right in front of goal. We offered very little in attack but managed to get to extra time.

Extra time was more of the same, and Dundalk finally took the lead through a deflected McEleney shot against a very tired Treaty side just at the end of the first half of extra time. We had nothing to lose and tried to create chances, but we weren’t helped when Anto O’Donnell received a straight red card when he lunged into a tackle after letting possession get away from him. We tried until the end and did swing a few balls into the box and put Dundalk under a bit of pressure but never quite created that one real chance we needed.

Next game: away versus Athlone, Friday July 30.

    Athlone 1-4 Treaty United

    (McCarthy, Lynch, McSweeney, Ludden)

Biggest win of the season for Treaty away to Athlone this evening, although it was actually a close enough game until about the hour mark.

Treaty had the better of things in the first half, and while Athlone had their own good spells, it was Treaty who were creating the better chances. And we took one of those chances on about 35 minutes when Red Hanlon dropped deep to pick up the ball, then played a lovely ball in behind the defence for Ed McCarthy to run on to, and he finished low past the keeper.

Athlone came out all guns blazing in the second half and caused us real problems for the first 15 or 20 minutes, and we could have had no complaints had they equalised, but they missed a couple of good chances in this spell. We weathered that spell and started to look more threatening on the counter, and went 2-0 up when McSweeney nodded down a long free-kick to Jack Lynch who fired a superb shot over the keeper into the top corner from about 20 yards out.

That knocked the stuffing out of Athlone, and we went 3-0 up when Red Hanlon held the ball up well and it ended up with Stephen Cristopher squaring for McSweeney to tap in, and it was 4 when a super pass put Ludden in behind the defence and he finished well from a narrow angle.

A late Athlone goal was some consolation, but the good news was Shelbourne only drawing at home to Cobh, which means Treaty are now 9 points behind, so our faint hopes of the title are a little less faint.

Next game: home versus Cabinteely, August 6.

    Treaty United 1-4 Cabinteely

    (O’Connell)

A great crowd in the Markets Field tonight, and the Blue Army in fine voice behind the goal, but Cabinteely spoiled the party.

Cabinteely were excellent all night to be honest, and were a real threat every time they went forward. They took the lead on 7 minutes when a deflected shot from the edge of the area fell kindly for a forward to fire under Tadhg Ryan from close range. Red Hanlon was forced off with an injury just a few minutes later, which left us very light up front, and they were 2 up about 10 minutes before halftime. Sean McSweeney underhit a pass back to the defence and they were quick to engineer a 1 on 1 and score past Ryan. We pressed, and had a goal disallowed for offside before we did score just a minute before halftime when Clyde O’Connell powered in a header from a corner.

We started the second half well enough, and substitute Coustrain caused some problems down the right, and Jack Lynch having a shot blocked in front of goal. But the game was over as a contest just before the hour mark when the ref gave a penalty to Cabinteely and a red card to Clyde O’Connell when a player went down just inside the box. After that we were horribly stretched at the back, and it was 4-1 when they squeezed in a shot at the near post after Ryan had made a save after yet another break. Coustrain missed from 4 yards out late on after Lynch fired a ball low across the box, and Cabinteely even missed another penalty after Ryan brought down a player in a 1 on 1.

We stay level with Galway on points as they lost at home to Cork, and Shels go 10 points clear after a draw away to UCD, as we enter the final round of games.

Next game: away versus Bray, August 6th, 7.30pm.

    Bray 1-0 Treaty

A second defeat in a row for Treaty tonight away to Bray.

There was nothing in the game really, Bray had more of the territory and possession, but didn’t do much at all with it. They had one good chance when a cross broke nicely for a player in front of goal but he scuffed his shot horribly and it was an easy save.

Treaty created next to nothing. The closest we came to scoring was probably a shot from about 20 yards by Matt Keane which went just the wrong side of the post.

Just when the draw seemed inevitable, in the 90th minute Charlie Fleming clumsily bundled over a player in the box and ex-Limerick player Connor Clifford scored the penalty to take the three points and to go above us on goal difference.

Galway beat Shels to move 3 points clear in second place, and UCD are just 2 points behind now. We should get back to winning ways next week though.

Next game: home versus Wexford, August 20th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 1-1 Wexford

    (McSweeney)

Treaty needed a late equaliser to avoid a 3rd defeat in a row against bottom side Wexford.

Kickoff was delayed by 15 minutes as the ground staff worked to get the water of the surface, but the water was an issue all night. Just 5 minutes in a Treaty clearance caught the water and came to a stop, resulting in a save and then a rebound off the post.

Wexford pressed us high up the pitch and we struggled to create much, Joel Coustrain having a couple of shots that were probably our best chances, while they had a goal disallowed for offside.

The game was much the same in the second half. They kept going wide and threated the compact, narrow Treaty defence, and finally got their reward when a ball across the box was finished at the back post. Treaty pressed, but it was Wexford who looked more likely to score on the counter, and the game would have been over if it hadn’t been for Tadhg Ryan making 3 or 4 excellent saves.

With 5 minutes to go Willie Armshaw curled a freekick into the box and McSweeney headed home, maybe with the help of a deflection or something that left the keeper wrongfooted. We attacked for the last 5 minutes, and came very close when the keeper made a good save only for a Treaty player to fire the rebound off the post, but to be honest, we didn’t deserve the 3 points.

Galway lost, Shels and Bray drew with each other, so we’re in 4th, but UCD have a game in hand and could go ahead on goal difference. We are 8 points clear of Athlone, who are the team closest to the playoff spots, so still in decent shape, but we need to be winning games like that. Unfortunately, I think we’ve become a bit predictable and  easy to play against.

To top it all off, the delayed kickoff meant I didn’t get time for my trip to the off-licence, so thanks for that ref ya *****.

Next game: home versus Cobh, Friday September 3rd, 7.45pm.

    Treaty United 3-0 Cobh Ramblers

    (McSweeney, O’Donnell, Armshaw)

Treaty got back to winning ways tonight, but it was far from as comfortable as the final score suggests.

We started well, pressing Cobh back, and were ahead after just 8 minutes. Their keeper was in two minds about whether to come for or wait for a low cross across the box, and McSweeney got there first to poke into an empty net.

Cobh had more of the ball after that but never really did too much with it for the rest of the half, and we came close again with a header from a corner that the keeper clawed against the post, with the rebound falling invitingly on the goal line, but it was a Cobh player who got there first to scramble it to safety.

In the second half Cobh did start to cause us real problems, the best of which was when they cut inside off the right wing and fired a low shot off the near post, but we also came close when Anto O’Donnell (I think) crashed a header off the crossbar from about 4 yards out.

The crowd were getting restless as we became more and more passive and Cobh pushed us farther and farther back, but out of nothing, we were 2 ahead. A corner was glanced clear only to Jack Lynch, and he fired a low ball back into the crowd of players, and Anto O’Donnell was quickest to react with some kind of flick or backheel from about 6 yards out. Huge relief for the home crowd, and it was all over about 5 minutes later. Matt Keane curled a lovely ball to the back post and Wille Armshaw arrived to crash a superb first-time left-foot volley past the keeper into the roof of the net.

We stay in 4th, and 2nd to 5th make the playoffs. We are 11 points ahead of Cork and Athlone in 6th. We have 4 big games in a row now, versus Galway away, Cork at home, and then Shels and UCD away, in that order. Cork’s run in is even worse, thankfully.

Next game: away versus Galway, September 10th, 7.45pm.

Anyone know of anyone is doing audio commentary of the game tonight in Galway?

    Galway 0-0 Treaty United

Two well-matched teams and a deserved share of the spoils in Galway tonight.

Both halves were fairly evenly matched for the most part. In the first half Galway had more of the ball and forced Tadhg Ryan into a couple of good saves, and one shot which he misjudged and had to gather at the second half as a Galway striker tried to poke home. Treaty’s best chance was probably an Anto O’Donnell header that went narrowly wide.

In the second, we probably had more of the ball, but still didn’t create too much with it. Some decent crosses into the box and a couple of headers that we should have done better with. Again, we had Ryan to thank for a point blank save midway through the half.

With 20 minutes to go, Marc Ludden was sent off for a second yellow, and it was a much more defensive performance after that. But despite having most of the ball, Galway never really fashioned any clear chances, and Treaty saw it out comfortably enough.

UCD go to 2nd place on 39, ahead of Galway on goal difference. Treaty in 4th on 37, and Bray in the final playoff spot on 33. Athlone still in the hunt for 5th on 28 points, Cork too far behind on 25.

Next game: home versus Cork, Friday September 17th, 7.45pm.

I've asked this elsewhere but does anyone know why the Market's Field doesn't have a bar in the ground on match days?

I know Jerry O'Dea's (and maybe the Spotted Dog?) sponsor matches so maybe there's a conflict there (though surely you could just ask Jerry O'Dea's to run it, a % of any profit is better than none at all).

I know Pat O'Sullivan wanted to create a family friendly atmosphere and I gather JP isn't a massive fan of drink but still, seems like easy money.
