A decent film would be one. A night of repeats is not.

I suppose a good film would be nice but you can bet your bottom dollar there would be someone here complaining that it was useless.

Repeats are part of the story with C19 and all. I find some of them better the second time around.

RTE could broadcast a show of Bob Geldof smelling Brendan Courtneys farts and elperello would defend it for pushing the envelope or something.

There is no harm in asking questions.

We seem to have established that the RTE News Website is updated regularly.

Is it the case that it's interface with a third party service is the issue?

If you're asking this then you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

The obvious hypocrisy by RTE in their coverage of the "Black Lives Matters - the Irish version" yesterday should surprise nobody.
As expected, they glorified the protest and never once mentioned anything about the march violating the restrictions of a country in the middle of an extremely restrictive lockdown due to a deadly contagious pandemic.

The only positive coming from yesterday's march from reading other online comments is that RTE's true colours are being exposed, and the claim to be the country's national broadcaster is one big conjob. RTE are national alright ................. a national and embarrassing disgrace.

The BBC's coverage was far more intricate. They showed the ugly element of it, how reporters and cameramen are being attacked.
Even the Daily Mail... the flipping Daily Mail.. showed the ugly side of it.

I'm sorry if people think I'm harsh, but there's protesting, and then there's just hooliganism.
Innocent people (of all colours and creeds) are losing their businesses because of these loons. Many of whom are gathering in massive crowds, in a country where 100, 000 people have died of a major virus. Gofundme's have been started to try and help these people out.. that won't repair the damage done to their lives, or the emotional tolls taken.

RTE tried to go the 'woke' route by doing an article on their site called 'how to be a better ally' to possibly satiate the idiots.

To be fair there is no point comparing the Irish march and the protests in the US, if you're saying the Beeb and the DM covered it better.

The only issue we all had with yesterdays march is that no media outlet or Gov minister had the balls to point out that it was breaking every lockdown restriction.

Nope, because then it would be seen as 'racist'...

Ads on RTE the last couple of days. Derry Girls season 1 starting on Friday.

Derry Girls season 2 is already out. Its already on Netflix. Did strapped for cash RTE buy Derry Girls season 1 even though its available on multiple media elsewhere and unless you've been living under a rock, you've already seen it anyway.

this aint new from RTE, Simpsons are on various channels/DisneyPlus, ditto with Big Bang Theory, Friends, Goldbergs etc.....RTE should shave down to one channel and one radio station, and maybe invest in the Player and have it as own version of Netflix for a tenner a month

It's 2.5 years old - it started on Channel 4 in Jan 2018. 2.5 years by current media consumption standards is an eternity.

Hopefully they show it before midnight for the 2 people in Ireland who haven't seen it.

I think just having one tv channel and one radio channel would be too restrictive.

If it can be afforded it would be better to have the versatility of being able to offer different choices.

Something definitely needs to be done to make the player work properly.

But that’s just it, they Clearly can’t afford it!!!!! They are running a deficit!!!

Bit of an overload with the exclamation marks but no matter.

We have been discussing the future of Public Broadcasting here for some time and some of us are looking forward to the proposed Broadcasting Commission.

It's the consensus on what we can afford that matters not the current unsatisfactory funding regime.

What we need to do is decide what we want and how to fund it, simple as that.

A Prime Time special about Madeline McCann, a girl who disappeared 13 years ago...

The dogs on the street knew she was no longer alive. Does RTE need to do ANOTHER segment on her over 13 years ago just because it's 'official'?

Why not have a Prime Time special as to why we have no Government after 4 months.
Saying that probably one of the conditions of the last RTE bail out was not to hold the Government to account.

It was about a 9 minute segment. An informative and concise report followed by an interview with a spokesman for the family.

It's not official yet, only the opinion of German police. Still a lot of gaps to be filled in the story.

There was a non conclusive result to the General Election and FF FG and Greens are making heavy weather of it ever since.

They had 5 mins at the end. Actually fairly decent and discussed the details....

    Really.....

I don’t think we need a Prime Time special to figure out why we don’t have a government given we effectively had a 3 way tie in the last election.

1 party tells us we apparently voted for change, yet have nowhere near the numbers to even begin formation talks.
The other 2 big parties have been sworn enemy of since the birth of the state, so it’s understandable that they won’t exactly have a government formed overnight, especially since they also don’t have the combined numbers, and are therefore relying on a 3rd party whose only priority is increased taxes, increased spending on public transport (despite Covid-19 most likely putting an entire generation of office workers into full time home working, therefore most likely taking pressure off public transport), and getting as many cars off the road as they can, particularly diesel cars which they are primarily responsible for why we have so many on the road.

All this while we are in the middle of the biggest health emergency in the history of the state.

    But you knew all that.

Nonsense, the dogs on the street knew 3 months what the make up of the next Government would be.
Why do you think the talks with the Independents was more or less call off 2 months ago.

It was always going to be FF/FG/GP because there scared sti*less of what would happen if their was another election.
    End of story.

Plus there's elements of it that they ignore-the McCann's using money from the fundraiser to pay their bills. They weren't exactly poor, had decent jobs, that money could have gone to actually paying for the investigation.
I mean, it's 13 years later-I'd be asking questions about who they actually gave all that money to. Much of the hard work seemed to have been done by government agencies. People who didn't get help from the McCann's.

Plus I've always found that Madeline McCann focus came about in a time when there was a lot of 'subtle' racism in news reports. (If RTE did a story on classroom overcrowding, they'd always cut to shots of children of immigrants, specifically any non-white child. It had a very ugly undercurrent). Madeline was a white, photogenic child.
So the media ate that story up.

In 2009, a 6 year old African American child named Adjir Desir disappeared in Florida. Two years after Madeline McCann. A year after President Obama was elected, when 'racism was over'. He's still missing.

For most people, that's probably the first time they heard of Adjir.
